  1. Anyone know why they kept showing pictures of Kevin Costner when they were talking about Mularkey? Are they friends? I dunno...... Congratulations to all of us for beating Mularkey today.
  2. He'll come around. The family issues may have been on his mind even before his mother died (i.e. her death may have been coming for a while). Moreover, it's rare for rookies to immediately make an impact. We shouldn't be expecting our 3rd round pick rookie CB to be helping the team right away.
  3. They aren't. The Sabres don't have much to sell. They had about 100 uniforms to sell yesterday and I think most of those were for little kids. They had a lot of pennants, flags, pucks, t-shirts with the slug on it and some people were buying that yesterday for sure. It doesn't really matter. They're going to sell this crap this year because it's new. The real test of the slug will be after this year. If a fan already has a slug t-shirt, is he/she going to want to buy another one? For example, I'm an LA Angels fan, and I've bought way more stuff since they switched to the red uniforms (everyone has). Winning the World Series in 2002 was part of that but the apparel really looks good now so I'm willing to buy an extra t-shirt or hat that I really don't need. I'm not going to buy banana slug merchandise and it's not some message I'm trying to send the team. It just looks like crap and I have no desire to own it.
  4. If the Jets win, then we have a chance to be tied for first next Sunday.
  5. He's a superstar, no doubt. I think everyone here thanks their lucky stars each night that he's a Bill.
  6. He's just a confused old man right? RIGHT? (F U ESPN)
  7. I'm already loving the draft and we still haven't seen big contributions from McCargo, Williams, and (especially) Youboty. Imagine how much better we'll be when those guys get a feel for the league.
  8. I don't think the D is a fluke. They had Brady really frustrated last week as well. We have a good defense. Holy crap!
  9. CBS didn't criticize the call at all but I was wondering myself because I'm sure I've seen blocking on swing passes and the like.
  10. NO TURNOVERS!!!! I like watching this team. The young guys on defense are awesome. Game ball to the special teams.
  11. Actually they won't. Larry Quinn said the team already has the right to wear the throwbacks for any deciding home game in the playoffs. That's great news, and also another admission that they fugged up the new uniforms.
  12. Your wife and I think alike. When I saw them in person for the first time yesterday my first thought was literally "Pokemon!" and I hadn't heard anyone say that previously.
  13. Never go against the family. AD's post got me thinking. Today was a reminder that there is a certain segment of the population that will literally buy anything if you tell them it's cool. So maybe the Sabres should do a little social experiment in a few years and attempt to design uniforms so ugly that they will alienate even the Pet Rock/Leisure Suit/New Sabres Crap crowd. I really don't know if it could be done. On the one hand, there's no limit to how ugly you could make a uniform but, on the other hand, there's nothing these people won't buy. Kind like the unstoppable force versus the unmoveable object.
  14. They're pretty ignorant. I almost mean that as a compliment because I think if they had some better information they might act more rational. I wonder how all these people got their information about what the Pope said. Some of their yelling on TV about why what he said was offensive doesn't match what he said. Someone is riling them up or maybe they just enjoy being outraged. Either way, it's a little disturbing how they're ready to burn someone in effigy at the drop of a hat. Also in the ignorant vein, there's a report that they fire-bombed a Greek Orthodox chuch in the West Bank. Those Christians don't answer to the Pope.
  15. You'd have to determine that on a case by case basis. And also keep in mind that maybe there isn't one religion that would work for everyone. People can distort any religion. Funny you should mention that. I considered making my original post much longer and bringing up the government and some other stuff. I decided to go with brevity. I really don't want to make any long posts about religion here. Nothing I could post will change any minds.
  16. Even the players only wore the alternate for the first couple minutes on ice. Having the original that close to the slug only made the new uniforms only look worse. As if to say "Here's what a hockey jersey looks like and here is what a Reebok, football-inspired fashion jersey for teenagers looks like." Players wearing the original were quickly off the ice.
  17. Right? I don't see how you could draw that conclusion from what I wrote. I was at the unveiling and saw a few people buy the things. I have no doubt they were going to buy the new stuff no matter what it looked like. I poked around the Sabres Store and most of the stuff being sold was pucks, t-shirts, and pennants. I wanted another look at the uniform close up but (just like every other part of this process) they screwed up and had none in stock to sell after a few minutes. I am also 25 and the new uniforms are a mess. The logo looks terrible on white and the sleeves are basically just jumbles of color. Any uniform this trendy will have a shelf life of less than 10 years. So I guess the Sabres weren't that interested in attempting to design a classic uniform. This way, they can keep redesigning and selling crap to people who will buy anything new. And not that I care what Flyers or Leafs fans think, but at least their teams weren't dumb enough to toss away classic logos when redesigning uniforms. We're stuck with an abstract banana slug until the next even more abstract design comes along (in less than 10 years).
  18. You're painting with a broad brush. Organized religions have a positive effect on many people's lives. Unfortunately, there will always be failures because not everyone in the world is good and/or smart. It's always going to be like this. There will always be good and bad effects based on the quality of the people running and practicing different religions.
  19. I like that the Pope can give a thorough speech on why the concept of a "Holy War" is wrong and the response from thousands of muslims around the world is that the Pope needs to be killed. Yeah, but all religions are the same.
  20. In their defense, I imagine their rally was more about feeling like they were making a difference than actually making one. So they probably achieved what they wanted to.
  21. Clooney is a huge douche bag. His Oscar speech solidified his entry into the Douche Bag Hall of Fame. I'm just saying he's right in this instance (about Sudan, not about thinking the UN is going to do anything).
  22. I was a little worried that I would really like the uniforms (and still hate the logo) and therefore have to consider buying a jersey with an ugly logo. Not worried anymore. Corey Griswold on WGR is fawning over them and talking about how everyone there loves them. 70% of the people there were less than 20. I didn't hear one person in the crowd say how much they liked them. People were happy to see the team. The uniforms suck. I refuse to believe that every single WGR person came to the same conclusion about how great the uniforms are on their own. Not even one guy there doesn't like them? Hmmmmm....
  23. Like I said, the people buying this crap would have literally bought anything. I own every Sabres uniform ever made and I lost all interest in buying anything once I saw the white jerseys. They had two years to put this all together. The logo sucks. The uniforms are a jumbled mess of angled stripes all up and down the sleeves. The season starts in less than a month and they didn't have much to sell. Oh, and they accidentally leaked parts of the uniform out constantly all summer (logo, pants and gloves, then home jersey). And when fans hated the logo, they had that goofy thrown-together press conference to announce that the old uniforms would be the alternates. I have no idea if there was a more sloppy way to handle this whole thing. Larry Quinn said yesterday that they had originally designed the jerseys to be tucked in (the new NHL template) and therefore there were no horizontal lines across the bottom. But the NHL scrapped that template. The result? The Sabres are wearing football jerseys that basically mirror the Denver Broncos. And it's not like the team didn't have time to adjust to the template. The Ducks new uniforms have different colors along the bottom of the jersey (bronze). The Sabres just !@#$ed up.
  24. Yeah, I saw a few guys buy and immediately put on the new blue jerseys. (Something tells me the new uniforms could have been purple and periwinkle with Richard Simmons as the logo and these dorks would have bought them.) I saw people buying kids white jerseys too. The Sabres Store really didn't have many jerseys. People were buying blue and gold Briere t-shirts before the unveiling. I was thinking I'd buy a puck and a pennant on my way out but after seeing the abomination that was the white jersey, I lost all interest in buying anything. If it helps, even the kids around me in the crowd thought the white jerseys were ugly. If teenagers didn't like it, I don't see how anyone else could. And the kids 12 and under were mainly there to jump around so I didn't gauge their opinions. For those who need some proof, here's Briere in the road jersey. Briere is embarassed
  25. Nothing is worse than the white jerseys.
