  1. My hot take is that while professionals have far more information and knowledge than fans, and while having more information is better in a vacuum, it can also lead to poor decision making if a GM over indexes on information that doesn't matter. What analytics does is it reduces the player down to a handful of data points that are known to be somewhat predictive of NFL success. Analytics doesn't model the player holistically, so it misses some context behind the numbers and also who the player is as a person. But if say a player is an excellent human being and wows the staff in person, they might let that information cloud any statistical red flags that us dumb fans wouldn't ignore. That's basically what I'm worried about with Coleman - though of course that's what we were worried about with Josh Allen and it turned out that the Bills staff nailed their assessment of him. That said, I do obviously trust Brandon Beane, and I would never claim that my uninformed opinion is better. But GMs get it wrong all the time and a lot of the time it's the surface level stuff that fans see that makes it obvious in hindsight
  2. If the Bills wanted Legette or Coleman they could move down one spot and definitely get one of them. If they knew the Pats wanted those guys too and Legette was Carolina's guy then they could have moved back 2 spots and been out of luck. Also possible Beane went to Carolina and said "hey New England is giving us X to move up, if you can beat that offer we'll swap picks so you can get your guy" which honestly makes more sense from Carolina's perspective why they gave up a relatively high amount to trade up one spot.
  3. Been thinking over the last few days...what if Shakir just is that dude? Maybe we're all remembering how Gabe Davis struggled taking on a bigger role and are assuming Shakir can't do it either. But his efficiency was through the roof, it can go down quite a bit while still being great in bigger volume. Apparently he's working on his speed with Moulds this offseason. Idk, I wouldn't rule out that Shakir might just be awesome in a starting Z role
  4. Coleman reminds me of an NBA prospect that specializes in the midrange. No, those aren't the most efficient players (not my favorite prospects either) and you hope you have other guys on your team to generate efficient offenses. But when it comes down to it against the best defenses in high pressure situations you'd like to have someone that can get a bucket no matter what they throw at him. I'm not sure I see him being a guy who leads the team in catches or yards in the regular season, which is why I still think we need a WR1 - but it'll be good to have a guy like Coleman in the playoffs for when defenses are locked in and nobody is open, Josh can throw it his way and he can make a play.
  5. Gave it a C. I can envision just about everyone drafted having a meaningful role while on their rookie contracts, but there's nobody I'm really excited about as a real potential impact player. I see Coleman's realistic upside as a good #2 (more reliable Gabe Davis). Bishop could be, but he doesn't play a premium position. Carter just gives me Harrison Phillips vibes - will be nice to have a solid rotational DT on a rookie deal but limited upside. Some of the day 3 picks I like and could have starter upside, or be nice special teamers. But after moving on from some of our aging all-pros, we need to find the next era of stars and none of these guys excite me in that way. Really this just hinges on Coleman because nobody expects a mid-later round player to be an all pro. I'm just not a huge fan of the pick
  6. Taron might have been the next guy after Josh that I was most worried about getting hurt last year just with how valuable of a role he plays in our D and with only Cam Lewis as his backup. Getting a solid backup there, and a guy that can return kicks is a great pick. Does anyone know if he can play outside in a pinch? Think Ingram is our boundary CB4 but it would be nice to feel comfortable keeping him inactive on gamedays when everyone is healthy and using Lewis/Hardy in an emergency where both starters are hurt (which I feel like has happened several times over the past few years)
  7. Well I was definitely hoping this would be a guy with some speed. Disappointing that after the talk about getting "more explosive" we didn't make a significant investment on that front. I guess the WR room will be looking like: Shakir Samuel Coleman Hollins Hamler/Isabella Shorter/Shavers/Cephus I wish one of our 4-6 guys had some more developmental upside but that's probably fine, not much worse than any other team's 4-6. After getting basically nada from Sherfield and Hardy last year it could even be an upgrade. It's the top end talent that will be lacking in 2024, and that wasn't gonna be solved anyways unless we traded significant future assets which I'm glad we didn't do
  8. Interesting. I'll admit my first thought was that a third OL pick on day 3 was confusing, unless they really wanted competition for Van Demark. But with how often our 7th rounders get scooped by other teams, if this is a guy that isn't coveted and can be lotto pick on the PS for a year with his ridiculous physical tools that's a fine use of that pick. Even better if he can do a Tea Time segment on social media like Christian Wade did
  9. Sounds good to me. Could be Taron's primary backup (and candidate for successor, if all goes well?) if Cam is focused on S this year. Still need a 4th boundary corner but I think they like Ingram
  10. Wasn't a fan of the pick but I'm warming up to Coleman as that bigger Gabe Davis with better hands comp that people have put out. We're focused on a Diggs replacement but we have to replace Davis too, and even though he was frustratingly inconsistent at times he provided a lot of value as a blocker and leader that does leave a void. Gabe Davis himself would be a decent 2nd round pick, a Gabe that doesn't drop critical passes is a good starter. I also respect the importance that Beane and McDermott put on character - I have to believe having good, hard working guys up and down the roster and having that culture permeate the building is a big reason why we've won 48 games over the past 4 years. So we won't replace Diggs this year, but that was always a tall order unless we went all in on a guy which I'm happy we didn't do. Add a speed guy with some Z upside today and I'll be satisfied with our weapons, acknowledging that we can upgrade more next year. But hopefully I'm wrong and he's the next Brandon Marshall!
  11. I doubt it. I don't think the Chiefs wanting Worthy or the Panthers wanting Legette was a surprise, so if Beane coveted either of those guys he would have taken them. Maybe Pearsall was a surprise but I don't believe they brought him in for a visit
  12. I was generally in favor of a trade back before the draft began, and I liked the first trade to move down and get back in the 3rd round. From there I wish we had stayed put and drafted Legette, but I also feel pretty good about where we're at. I'm glad Beane didn't give away next year's draft to trade up
  13. I find myself largely agreeing with Joe Marino here, Legette at 32 would have been nice but if you told me before the draft we could move down 5 spots and get back in the 3rd round (and upgrade a day 3 pick) I would have taken it. If we wake up tomorrow with DeJean, Franklin and somebody else I'll be thrilled. I can get excited for Mitchell but I don't understand the McConkey love - maybe someone who watches more college football than I do can explain the appeal behind a guy with his mediocre production and good but not elite tools
