  1. I have a question about tethering. Are there any phones/wireless providers that allow tethering for cheap/free? When I first got my verizon LG flip phone a few years ago I looked up ways to hack it and found out that many people were using their phones to tether and verizon didn't know about it. Then when verizon figured it out they started charging extra for tethering. Can you currently use your iPhone to tether to a laptop and connect to the internet?
  2. I driving from Milwaukee to Buffalo for Thanksgiving and thinking about going through Canada just to change it up. We are going to bring a dog. According to the US customs website it says you need a up-to-date proof of rabies vaccination for the dog. This sounds simple enough, but I'm just wondering if anyone has done this recently and is it worth the hassle? We have passports.
  3. These were both dreams. I have stuff like that happen to me all the time. I think somebody is standing by my bed so I launch a pillow at him or something. Then I wake up and realize my mind is imagining things.
  4. We took a drive to the Mount Airy Lodge right before it closed for good in the early 90s. It really became a dump, but it reminded me of the place where Johnny Castle and Baby Houseman fell in love.
  5. I am in your shoes. I am going to wait for the Droid to be out for a month or two. As long as it gets good reviews, I'm pulling the trigger.
  6. Right on. Even if none of those contacts lead to jobs, the exercise makes you realize that you have nothing to lose by contacting these people.
  7. If all you're doing is stuff at home, you're not doing it right. You need to find job networking meetings in your area. With 10% unemployment, there are lots of these meetings. You can go to networking groups/meetings that are specific to your field, or you can go to general job search meetings. For the general job search meetings, they probably are being held at local churches. You go to the meeting and are in a room with a bunch of other unemployed people. You get up in front of the group and give your 30 second elevator speech that says what experience you have and what type of position you are looking for. The elevator speech that you gave in this post is too convoluted and not concise. You need to learn how to sell yourself in a clear and concise way, that will be understandable to a broad audience. I am a chemist, so in addition to going to general job search meetings, I have attended many local chapter American Chemical Society meetings. Find a networking organization that is specific to your field and start attending their meetings. At these meetings, you will make connections that could lead to a job, but more importantly you will be honing your interviewing skills. You will start to realize how important it is to present yourself, and you will probably figure out why you didn't get the jobs you interviewed for. After finishing grad school, I looked for a job by going to these meetings for about seven months. I finally have found 3 part time jobs that add up to one full time job. Not having a job for seven months was the worst thing that could happen to me financially, but the best thing that could happen to me career wise, because just like you, I did not do any networking in grad school. Also, the worst thing for you to do is get discouraged when you go to these events. Don't expect that getting one business card from some manager will land you a job, you have to keep plugging away and not let the highs get you too excited and the lows get you too down. It is still important to keep abreast of job postings via indeed.com, but you will not be able to position yourself to do well in an interview if you have been an internet job searching quasimodo for several months. You may be a very technically savvy candidate, but if you can't smoke and mirror your way past the HR people, then you probably won't get the interview or the job. The way you learn to speak the language of a recruiter is to go to networking meetings. Although most of the attendees at these meetings are unemployed, they all once had jobs and they are all just as desperate as you are. Because they are desperate, they are happy to connect other desperate strangers with as many of their connections as they have. Use this to your advantage.
  8. I sometimes wonder how these guys have enough brain power to tie their shoes. What a retarded move.
  9. Even the swarmy snipes that cross the line should provide him with some insight. He is portraying himself as weak and overemotional, which is exactly why 5th year and many in this thread are jumping on him. He wants to know how to get people to like him, and giving his worst enemy home made cookies is probably not the way to do it. It just puts him back in the submissive, cowardly, role that 5th year already had labeled him as.
  10. Neither did I. Seems like it's a no brainer to consolidate.
  11. You are paying between 7-11% and you can lower that interest rate to 4-6%. How is that not a math question?
  12. You called a meeting? Just don't drive them anywhere. Problem solved. And buy your own personal fridge.
  13. I would coach the Bills for free. Do you think Ralph would hire me?
  14. What does your IQ have to be in order to be mentally disabled?
  15. Lynch is marginally more talented than Freddy. Freddy has more brain power.
  16. He's like Charlie Brown. The black cloud follows him everywhere.
  17. Last time I had an alignment was like 55,000 miles ago when I bought the new tires. Now I'm getting 4 new ones, so I think you're probably giving some good advice.
  18. One of the lineman on the Locomotives went to high school with me. Martin Bibla. I might watch because of him and JP.
  19. Last time I bought 4 new tires I had them do the electronic alignment for the extra $80. I hadn't really done any research. Well I need four new tires and I'm debating whether the alignment is worth it. Discuss.
  20. JP had a rocket arm and the brain the size of a peanut. Trent got high wonderlic scores but is afraid of his own shadow. Dick is like a high school guidance counselor. He tells everyone to reach for the status quo.
