Why even post this? Every coach will have a dud now and then. The key is not having them repeatedly. Ben is the hottest coach in the world right now because of incredibly consistent and inventive his offense has been.

The Patriots offense is why they are 1-5. Not the Patriots defense (which is top 15 in DVOA).

Yeah, if anyone wants to complain about the offense, start there. There was one blitz where NE has 5 players rushing, and THREE hit Allen. The game doesn’t end with five minutes. How many Super Bowls did Tom Brady have where his offense has 17 or less points with time waning?

Allen’s offense scored 25 points yesterday - that’s more points than 71% of NFL teams yesterday. He also left the field with a lead and less than 2 minutes to go (where have I heard that before). Yeah, I get it, he had a few wayward throws. A few bad decisions. Yet he still completed 66% of his passes and had 3 TD’s… Yet his offense still left the game with a lead… I get the annoyance with the offense, but the defense allowing Mac Jones and that terrible Patriots offense to drive 75 yards in under 2 minutes so extremely overshadows our offensive woes. McDermott was terrible yesterday.

Not likely. Honestly it’s not Allen’s style. Go to the stadium and watch the bench during the game and he mostly just chills. I don’t think he is super comfortable in the outwardly vocal leadership role (just a personality thing).

You’re not alone in this thought but I truly don’t understand it. Allen had several “off” throws but overall he played fairly well. He was under constant pressure, turned at least 4 sacks into throwaways or completions by evading defenders, and had 3 TD’s to go along with 66% passing.

That’s putting it lightly. I thought Allen was fine today given the circumstances. Did he have some poor throws? Throws that went too high, too wide, or too long? Absolutely. But any other QB is getting sacked 6 or 7 times today. Most importantly, Allen left the field with a LEAD and only 2 minutes left. .

The point of that thread was showing, historically, Super Bowl coaches have gotten there in X amount of time. After that, the data indicates that coaches will only go so far. Your post above says: “I have to begin wondering if he has taken this team as far as he can take them”. It’s the same topic, except yours is based on the eye test and mine is based on data.

I completely understand your point, but consider this: The last time he came back from an ACL tear it was only 9 months between his injury date and his first game back. In his first three games back he had 9 tackles, 2 sacks and 2 TFL. Of course, he was younger. But that’s kinda the point - father time catches up to everyone.

Perhaps, but his career has been a downward trajectory. 2021: 12 y/r and 9 TD 2022: 11 y/r and 6 TD 2023: 7 y/r and on pace for 2 TD Not to mention the drops in crucial moments.

He is 3 weeks post comeback and there is very little bend to his rush, much slower get-off (you can tell he is trying to jump the snap to get the edge), and I have yet to see him win a single match-up. He simply looks bad. Last time he came back from an ICL injury he was younger, but he had 9 tackles, 2 sacks and 2 TFL in his first 3 games back. Do we feel Von is toast? His dead cap is $32.5M so he is not going anywhere.
