NFL 2024 Kickoff: Ravens @ Chiefs, Sept 5 - 8:20pm
DapperCam replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
Hoping Mahomes or Jackson (or both) throw a few picks. Early season narratives seem to carry on for the entire season. -
They are doing undercover hidden camera interviews of a middle manager of a social media team (I know his title is VP, title inflation is an epidemic)? I don’t really consider this person a public figure or the content of this interview in the public interest. We all say things in private that we wouldn’t say directly to the public or our employer. Seems very lame to me.

Week 1 - Cardinals at Bills - Game Week Thread
DapperCam replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
I’m trying to think about what my strategy would be if I were the Cardinals. On offense, I would attack the middle of the field. Bills will have unproven LB and S out there. If Von Miller is on the field I’m probably running right at him and making him prove he isn’t washed. Homie had 3 total tackles in 12 games played. On defense I probably play soft zone the entire game and don’t give up any deep shots. Bills will score, at least make them eat up some clock in the process. Hope Allen throws some picks. If the Bills play disciplined it should be an easy win. -
That was a really great game. Besides the kicker missing the chip shot at the end of the first half it felt like an NFL game. Both teams played well.

Failed Hamlin fake punt in the Chiefs playoff game.

He outkicked his coverage at least twice that I saw. Special teams in general is pretty bad and will cost us games. I mean it certainly cost us games last year. Bass pretty much lost us the Eagles game with his missed kicks. 12 men on the field vs the Broncos, and the Chiefs game tying miss. Probably more I’ve blocked out of my memory.

Sam Martin in the worst starting punter in the league. I present to you the PFF grades for the preseason. He is below a bunch of punters that were released.

The Athletic Survey: Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson?
DapperCam replied to Sierra Foothills's topic in The Stadium Wall
I guess I just disagree. Mahomes has had some high profile comebacks in the playoffs and superbowl, but in terms of absolute numbers Allen and Mahomes are basically equal. Also having HOF pass catchers, a HOF play caller, and superior o-line play makes it easier to come back when the game is on the line. 4th quarter comebacks: Mahomes - 14 Allen - 13 Game winning drives: Mahomes - 16 Allen - 19 -
The Athletic Survey: Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson?

Brady was also a “cerebral” type QB. So the offense was really his. Allen isn’t that type of QB (really no current QB is). -
The Athletic Survey: Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson?

I view Allen and Mahomes as pretty similar in terms of ability. The bottom line is that Mahomes has had a HOF coach that was already known as a QB whisperer, a potential HOF WR in Hill, and the GOAT TE. Also a defense and special teams that have performed very well in the playoffs. Allen has had 4 OCs in 6 seasons (Dennison, Daboll, Dorsey, Brady). A defensive HC that isn’t involved in the offense at all, and zero HOF level skill players. Also a defense and special teams that have performed terribly in the playoffs. Mahomes on average has had a much better offensive line as well. Not to mention probably 20-30 “passing” TDs on gimmick plays inside the 5 yard line that are entirely based on scheme. -
I think we all know that Mahomes marches down the field and scores the game winning TD even if Shakir catches that TD on the Jones bull rush. Defense was softer than wet tissue paper that day.
-
How does running up the score impact defensive DVOA, which is what we’re talking about here? The performance of the offense has been on par with the regular season, or even better.
-
2019: Defense given a 16-0 lead allows Texans scores on 3 straight drives beginning at the end of the 3rd quarter. Allowed Texans to convert a 3rd and 18 on the game winning OT drive.
-
Bottom line is that the defense has had one game where they were a big part of the reason we won over 5 postseasons worth of games. That would be the divisional matchup vs the Ravens. We almost didn’t even get to that game because they were a bad bounce away from letting the corpse of Philip Rivers beat them the prior week. I agree the injuries were ridiculous last season, but this has spanned a lot of seasons.
-
It isn’t just bad breaks. We have one of the worst defenses in the playoffs over the past 5 years and there is enough of a sample size to say it isn’t just a coincidence.
-
#1. I can't imagine this is a randomly sampled group of players. For all we know it's primarily from division opponents (ahem...Pats are next to ESPN headquarters). #2. I also have to think that the group of players that voted "Biggest trash talker" had a big overlap with players that voted "Most overrated". I.e. a bunch of butt hurt defenders that Allen probably embarrassed. Also, it said an NFC West opponent said he had too many turnovers. Allen has owned the NFC West in every match up (like nearly perfect games...). So, another butt hurt player that got roasted by Allen.

Week 1 - Cardinals at Bills - Game Week Thread
DapperCam replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
We should win by 9, but the first few weeks of the season can be pretty screwy. -
He’s better than Fields for sure. I feel like they could have brought in some better competition though.
-
His issue is that he’s too slow for the NFL. Can’t play special teams for that reason. If you’re going to be a bottom of the roster WR then you need some versatility.
-
I remember people here (mostly the constantly negative voices) roasting Beane for letting Hodgins go. He didn’t end up doing much.
-
Part of Allen’s fumbling problems are because he plays hero ball. And by the way, his entire career he has had to play hero ball. His supporting cast has been woeful at times, and the offense play calling seems to devolve to “Let Allen run around and figure it out” when the game is on the line.
-
Juju has completely messed up knees. Maybe he can give the Chiefs a couple good games, but there was a reason he was cut. Dude is donezo (sad because he’s so young).

Cam Newton, recognizing coverages, disguises and Sean McDermott

Elite passers eviscerate this defense, especially in the playoffs. There just aren’t very many elite passers in the league. McD’s scheme seems to really shut down average passers, so we have great regular season stats. It’s happed every season where the defense is the primary reason we’ve lost in the playoffs, so it’s not a one-off thing (I guess the Bengals loss was a team effort, everything was bad in that one). Mahomes did literally whatever he wanted, what game were you watching? They didn’t even force a punt until the very end of the game. To be fair we were very injured, but in no universe did they play well.
