Question about QBs off season training
snowbelt_subie replied to twist_to_open's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
i don't think it matters much. has big ben, Brady, brees manning ever worked tireless with a QB "guru" i dont think so. watching film and being a student of the game is more important than being obsessive over mechanics. most of these guys are pretty accurate when they are comfortable and trust what they are seeing. if you can diagnose and process what is going on with the defense and how your offensive play can beat said scheme on any given play is the most important trait for a QB. -
i guess we will agree to disagree. i think you need both to succeed. if you think josh allen would be a star on the Jets the last couple of years idk what to tell ya. no one not even tom brady would have done well. think its a coincidence that Ryan Tannehill has been really good now that he got away from Gase or Baker mayfield was really bad under freddie kitchens and now was really good under Stefanski?

i somewhat agree ... the browns staff is very organized and thorough. Some teams like the browns i believe don't want there QB working with outside "Gurus" because they want the Qb's mechanics and footwork the way that the TEAM wants it not a 3rd party. overall i think its much to do about nothing. The Browns, Bills Ravens, Chiefs are going to be good with young QB's for the foreseeable future. its going to come down to head to head matchups in the playoffs much like Big ben, Brady, Manning. Allen beat jackson and no one has beat Mahomes yet... its going to be fun moving forward.

RB is a really GLARING need, right?

Yea I think the rbs are adequate it's more the oline and offensive scheme more than anything. The bills would be even harder to defend if they had some balance. Teams with exotic blitzs like kc and Baltimore wouldn't be able to just pin their ears back with a run threat they would have to honor. -
Drafting Allen was a risk he had all the "traits" but didnt put it together yet. Baker was the safe pick to be a good quality starter. who is to say the bills wouldn't have drafted baker or Darnold over allen. no one knows because every team always gets their guy they wanted all along. the only team you can say that for sure is the browns because they had the first pick.

never understood that baker mayfield is more brett farve than game manager you are basically saying he is andy dalton or cousins. doesnt make much sense he is in a run first offense but that isnt his fault its just 2 ways of going about it. me personally i would rather have a balance offense than one that has no running game and passes every down.

if josh allen, lamar, or baker went to the Jets it would be the same result as what happened. Lamar got a stable franchise and HC, Baker had a clown show and finally got a grown up in stefanski and turned it around, Allen has had MR stability Mcd. as much as people dont want to hear it . these Qb's are a product of their environment more than anything.

sure last year allen was better.. for their 3 year careers baker has more yards TD passes and both have a 90 QB career rating. baker has no room to grow yep first time in his career he has had the same system 2 years in a row..... i bet he will suck. Is Freddie kitchens back coaching him? i mean cant allen be this generations arron rodgers and baker be drew brees? there is enough love to go around.

never understood this narrative about baker... you might not like his demeanor or attitude but the guy can play ball. His rookie year he didnt have tons of big time weapons and a bad offensive line and did pretty well better than all the other rookie QB's. The fact is he wasn't set up to succeed he had 4 OCs in 3 years all with different schemes. I guess we will see this year will be his first year with the same scheme they can build on last year and not have to learn an entire new playbook.

Qb's are the product of the situation around them coaching, players etc.... i would bet its more of a Ryan Tannehill situation for wentz. he is in a stable franchise they will work on his mechanics use the running game more to take some pressure off of him and once his confidence is back he will be fine. he still has the size arm strength mobility, the only thing was his mechanics got sloppy. Frank Reich is a good coach they will figure him out.

Coaching matters see 2019 browns vs 2020. i see stefanski as a mcdermott clone on the offensive side. Both smart not flashy hardly any emotion just about business and work. you shouldnt discount how hard it is to stop the ravens rushing attack heck all the teams in the AFC north have been game planning twice a year to stop them and not one team has played them as well as the bills did in that playoff game.
-
i mean look at the previous 3 seasons for wentz last season was bad yes you are right. So wentz having 1 bad season out of the past 4 makes him terrible now? its more than likely just a blip rather than his new standard of play. i mean old no arm phillip rivers won 11 games with that INDY squad. i think they will be in the playoffs and anything can happen once you are there.

the bills are going to be good ... they have a good scheme on D but had a down year last year compared to the previous 2. the problem i see with Buf is they aren't balanced . If they run into a team that can rush the passer and cover well well they need just an average running game to take some of the pressure off of allen.
