i have a cool gregg allmann story. i was working at a bar in syracuse in the 80's and GA was playing the next night in support of his new cd which at the time had the song 'no angel'. We were shutting the bar down that night, it's 2.30-2.45 AM and all of a sudden there's a knock on the door, I head to the door and sure enough its GA and crew, they just got into town and wanted to check out the place and, oh by the way, have a drink. We all sit at the bar with him and his crew and drink the morning away. So the next night, GA was playing, I am up front at the door and 4-5 guys show up in line and i look at them with some familiarity. I say, 'Hey, you're Kansas', they nod(they are playing a show in syracuse the next night and wanted to see GA. So I escort them up to our 'VIP room' upstairs that overlooks the stage and fetch them drinks the rest of the night. Night ends, the Kansas crew thanks me, I respond, 'don't thank me, i don't have tickets to your show' and smile...they say how many, i say me plus 3?? they say absolutely and take my name. Show up at the landmark theater get to the front of a very long line with 3 of my friends, i turn half to the ticket window and half to the poor saps in line and say, 'I'm on Kansas' guest list, me +3' the chick flips through the first page and all of a sudden i get a sinking feeling in my gut that they were drunk and no way remembered my request or my name....well finally she says 'ah...here you are', we walk into the landmark foyer where it's packed as people are milling about getting drinks from the lobby bar. All of a sudden someone calls my name from the steps near the entrance to the seats, its the stage manager for kansas just making sure i got in ok...tipped my glass to him and nodded, went to our seats and sat 4th row right center...it was a pretty awesome 2 day rockstar life for me....
