1. Run a conventional 4 - 3 - 4 against Brady. He's good at mis-matches...don't play games. Don't think Weis leaving is a blow - plenty of staff watched his offense and learned.

Looks like Dillon will get the carries. Dillon makes his living off of Guard and Center play.

On offense, run the ball to the left against NE with a motion man heading right.

Darn. What if Bellichek reads this and learns the secret plan?

  2. I'll never understand what happened to Costas.

I used to really dig him because he was a down-to-earth sportscaster whose love of sports carried him.

Now? He's a...how would you say...caricature of himself.

    762322

Part of his early charm is that he came off as a guy like the rest of us. Someone who likes sports and give us the straight scoop.

After years of celebrity status his ego has taken over a bit. He tries to funny and he tries to be hip. IMO he lost the innocence that worked for him in the early days.

  3. There has to be a time when you say enough is enough!! The Patriots still getting favored by at least 8 points! I know the Bills have not proved anything yet but people around these parts have to think that the Bills can pull this off.

Isn't time to put this whole Patriots cloak of invincibility behind us? The Bills are due and it looks like everything they could wish for is in place for week one. Huge underdogs, away, Patriots opener, more Patriots injuries...I am no longer looking at this game with guarded optimism, I am looking for a freakin' victory and nothing less.

It's time to knock this monkey (i mean gorilla) off the Bills backs and never look behind.  I guess I am just shocked as to how the Pats keep pulling things out of thin air. Can Brady and Coach B really carry the load again???? I think not!

    762032

If we avoid stupid penalties and negative plays we have a chance. ;)

The game will be won or lost in the trenches. It does not matter so much as to who is carrying or recieving the ball. If Brady has time he will make the completions. If their RB has a big hole he will gain yards. If our OL does not match up and control the line of scrimmage our defense will be on the field for too long and bad things will happen.

I think we have a good chance but don't think that the injuries alone are that going to stop the Pats.

  4. Apparently our new OLineman is on top of the world having been issued his old #79. I pointed out that the number had been kind to a previous Bill's lineman ;-)

His Parents and Godparents are joining our group of Bill's fans for the opener in Santa Monica at 3110 Santa Monica Blvd (Busbys). They'll be among other Bill's player's family members watching the game with us. PM me for more info-

Didn't they used to live next to OJ in East Amherst?

  5. When I saw that Aaron Gibson was cut a few weeks ago I thought to myself, good this regime is not like the old one in that they want the best players and not their friends.

I think the charge of croneyism against TD was justified based on his record and the number of people he brought into the organization with Pittsburgh ties. Mularkey, Richard Huntely, Kris Farris and Tom Modrak.

I am wondering if anyone thinks that keeping Anthony Thomas over Lionel Gates was a case of croneyism? Thomas was great his rookie season, but hasn't done much in the league since. Gates averaged 2.7 yards per carry in the preseason and Thomas only 2.1. I know neither average is impressive, but I defienetly thought Gates was better in the preseason. I should add I never made it to training camp, but did see a fair amount of Bills coverage on the NFL network.

So is keeping the A-Train a case of croneyism?

    761872

Thomas a proven NFL veteran and is easily the better player. Preseason stats mean nothing. Gates cannot block and he has hands of stone. He had ZERO touches last year with only Shaud Williams ahead of him on the depth chart.

Jauron is comfortable with A-Train and their good relationship could coax another good season out of him. So what is wrong with that? It is not like he cut a future starter to keep a friend. Gates is a 3rd stringer with limited skills.

  6. Why would a player decline a practice squad position?

    761910

Seems unlikely but it happens. They do it when they get multiple offers or when they believe they can go to a team where they feel they have a better opportunity.

I am amazed that the Bills did not add any offensive linemen to the PS yet. I still think they may pick up a veteran OT and move Merz to the PS.

  7. Oh I see ... well thanks for the no-betting advice but we would never bet more than we could afford and because 3 of us are splitting one bet its only about $33 a piece.

    761816

I guess almost every young guy has to give this a try ... just remember that

gambling is a losing proposition. The ONLY people who consistently make money are the casinos and the bookies. That is why they do it.

Please set aside what you "plan to lose" and after you lose it then stop betting.

    good luck :(

  8. Just like Milloy departed the Pats to join the Bills right before the first regular season game with full knowledge of the Patriots' playbook, Fast Freddie may provide the Patriots with a similar advantage this week.

    761237

    No way.

Are you comparing a Pro Bowl veteran (Milloy) to a marginal 6th WR/ST player (Smith) that was still trying to learn a new offense? :w00t:

Bellichek does not need Smith to come up with a game plan. :w00t:

  9. Well Peter, we must have lived very close to each other because I lived around the corner from OJ on Brandywine. I will second what you said about O.J. being generous with his time. He was always good to the neighborhood kids.

    760654

He couldn't have lived on Brandywine. He lived in my nieghborhood on the West Side. Yeah, right down on West Ave. :w00t:

  10. When Jerry Angelo took over the Bears, Jauron was in essentially the same position. Did he quit ? Nope, went 13 and 3.

We have a guy who can handle the tough assignment. Mullarkey retired to Florida.

    760635

True. I work with lots of Bears fans and they respect Jauron a lot for that.

His players are loyal to him. He is intelligent, honest, and extremely organized. His downfall in Chicago was his inability to get a decent OC. Hopefully, with Fairchild, that is not going to be a problem.

Many feel that Levy wanted Jauron all along. I think the Sherman thing was a fantasy conjured up by the press. Funny how few interviews Sherman even had.

  11. First, I think Coy Wire was mostly kept because Matt Bowen is hurt now and they really don't know if he will be out one more day or ten or perhaps much more.

But second, this is another possibility. If Clements or McGee goes down, I think they move Vincent to CB and put Simpson in there at FS. When he returns, Bowen could back up FS, too, if necessary as he has some wheels. Then they could keep Jabari as the nickel back which he is much better suited for at this point, IMO. With Youboty and Greer being young, I also really think they wanted some experience like Thomas brings, as opposed to all three back-up CBs being inexperienced. We have already seen them play Vincent at CB in camp in the nickel and dime packages. It's just a theory but I think it's a real possibility or fallback plan.

    760528

    Two simple reasons:

    1 - Bowen is hurt.

2 - He excels at Special Teams.

  12. ive had ingrown toenails on my big toes like 5+ times, sh-- kills. if u put a feather on it, feels like a million pounds.

    im with you steve!!!!

    758701

I had one once. I missed one week of softball league because of it. It hurts but you can play ... you just can't run hard, cut hard, or change direction. Just putting on the shoe is a challenge.

  13. Anyone watch the pre-season games on NFL Network yesterday?  Wh was that nimrod with Rich Eisen?  He kept going on how Losman wasn't popular with the vets and that the team wants Holcomb to play.  Cripes, that's last year's news!  Do these guys ever do any homework?

Just wanted to tell you I enjoy your posts ... and... I like the look of the old promo better.

  14. Or written by Trey Wingo in disguise.

I love how that tool to this day likes to point out that the Bills paid a 1st rounder for JP...and he is getting paid, makes me sick!  :)

    757330

Trey was a local sportscaster here in St. Louis and he was just a second tier flunky. I can't believe that he made it national. He is a joke. He came from the Dallas area and could not, or would not, lose his allegiance to the Cowboys. He is very unprofessional and reports with bias.

I wonder how these guys ever get hired.

  15. I"m not a big fan of the "let's bash former Bills when they leave" mentality -- particularly when they were productive players here -- but I do wonder what EM was thinking, choosing a team like Houston.  QBs don't come any more inconsistent than Carr, and that team will struggle to win more than four ballgames this season.

Sad way to go out, EM.

    754264

I don't want to bash him either but to me he took the money and ran!

  16. Did you see that play?!?!?! I've watched it like 75 times!! Peerless is teh roxor, all others are teh suxor!  w00t!

    752892

At the risk of sounding old, can some translate "teh roxor" and "teh suxor"?

Oh .. I enjoyed that play too and hope to see a lot more of it during the season!

  17. Have to ask for input, please be gentle!

Charles Rogers may be released by the Lions...I think this would be a solid corp of receivers.

    1. Evans

    2. Price

    3. Rogers

    4. Parrish

    5. Davis

    6. Aiken

    Thoughts?

Lastly, we have the cap room...why not make a move for Collins, he would be a significant upgrade to Holcomb, as I was far from impressed by his performance in the preseason.

    754088

Adding players (other teams cuts) at this point almost never pays off. Unless we are ravaged by injuries at a certain position it is usually best to stick with what you brought to camp, especially with new coaches and new systems to learn.

Collins is not the answer as a backup. JP does not need the distraction.

Rogers never showed a thing in the NFL. He has done less than Josh Reed.

Also, I don't see Davis making the roster unless he beats out Smith as a return man. He was shown less tham Wilson in the games.

  18. Pats have no Wide outs there number 1 wide out is

    Reche Caldwell

    nuff said

they have problems stoping the run

look at who they have been signing at LB

all there good secondary people have moved on

    from there SuperBowl Runs

Bills Starting O-line is much beter than last year

and we dominated them in the run game in NE

Last year we should have won the game

also after watch the Miami game they have one of the worst

o-lines I have seen but good skill players

it would not surprise me to see the Bills Start out

    2-0

The Bills Will Be the Surprise team of the AFC

this year.  the will win the east with a 9-7 Record

win the Tie breaker over the pats.

Mark it down and remember this post.

    Mickey In Hamlin

J.P. Looks like the real deal

can't wait for the start of the regular season

when they do some real game planning.

    752803

I sure hope you are right but it is the "real game planning" that you should be worried about. No one is better than Bellichek at game planning and covering weaknesses.

We have an inexperienced QB, they have Brady.

We have a new coaching staff, they have a proven staff.

We have questions all over both lines and we are trying to learn a new defense.

Despite the Pats problems they have a proven track record of clutch performance and making plays. We don't.

I think the Bils will improve as the season goes on but winning the season opener on the road against NE is asking a lot.

  19. Very serious....I am not impressed with Peters at RT.  He is an excellent run blocker, but Julius Peppers made that boy look like a turnstile on pass plays.

    751481

News flash ... Peppers makes lots of good tackles look bad. Most tackles get help with Peppers. Lets's not forget that it was the first game of pre-season and Peters (who has less than one year at the position) is learning a new system.

There are many tackles that are converted tight ends. In the Bills history I can think of Paul Costa in the 60's, Paul Seymour in the 70's, just to name a few.
