This is 2 teams now that’s given up on him. I wanted him to succeed but i think it’s over for him. Word is he’s having a horrible camp and that Tua is beating him in competition for the number 2 role

I think he’ll bounce around as a backup or a fringe starter for teams that desperate for a QB.

harken back to the Bills 3rd string QB during the Super Bowl runs...he held a clipboard and pretty much nothing else, but is a historical note and or triva question:

Gale Reed Gilbert is a former American football quarterback who played eight seasons in the NFL for the Seattle Seahawks, Buffalo Bills, and the San Diego Chargers. Gilbert is the only player in NFL history to be on five consecutive Super Bowl teams, none of which won. Wikipedia

He also had somewhat of a checked past

With some of the cuts already happening, I think two surprises I am going to list.

Trent Murphy - Sticks on the team, with the reports that AJ is struggling I think he end up sticking.  I really think they wanted to move on from him but I think that he sticks at this point.

Robert Foster - Gone I think they will trade him this week, there will be coaches that look at a 6 game stretch in 2 years and say we can get that out of him, missing time again with another injury.

Nsekhe traded.  I dont think they are cutting him and I dont think they would move him for late picks, but a mid round pick or a under-performing youngster (ala Hughes trade) and he could be moved.

Those are my three surprise guesses must admit it is hard doing this without actually seeing practices this year and no Preseason Games to look at either.

I think we could be in store for some known players not making the team.

It’s all but certain that the rookies will have a spot INT he roster which will give the Bills 5 WR’s + Andre Roberts as WR/KR.  I don’t think they keep 6 WR plus Roberts, so that means the following are likely gone:

    Robert Foster

    Duke Williams

    Isaiah McKenzie

I don’t these players will be out of work for long.

The OL could be interesting as well, if you believe the reports that Daryl Williams and Cody Ford got some work with the 1st Team OL.  If people like Ryan Bates can step up as OL swingman, then I think either Brian Winters or TY Nsekhe could be gone.  I don’t think they could trade either.

I think that Murphy stays and the team tries to sneak Daryl Williams on the PS.  I don’t think there’s much value on the trade market and that they are better keeping him in the DL rotation

Some other possible cuts that I think could happen:

FB Pat DiMarco - I have a feeling the team loves the versatility of a younger Reggie Gilliam.  Also they’ve filled a few voids on ST, so they no longer need DiMarco here.

RB TJ Yeldon - With Taiwan Jones on the team, I’m not sure there is much space for Yeldon.  Yes he can play ST’s but it wasn’t enough to keep him active last year... it might not this year.

TE - Jason Croom - Theres just not a spot for him at TE.

TE - Lee Smith - less likely but if Williams is playing OT and Ford is inside, Smith on the become less valueable as a blocker.  He also wasn’t very last year.

QB - Jake Fromm - Logic tells you this doesn’t happen but reports out of camp are that he hasn’t impressed.  The team also like Davis Webb

Yes, if DiMarco is healthy enough to play he will be on the roster. I have been saying that all summer. Is a bit of an if at the moment though.

Is there a spot for him anymore?  Daboll doesn’t use a FB much and this year you’d expect the Bills to run a lot of 3 WR.

I know he was valued on Special Teams, but the Bills brought on Taiwan Jones, Tyler Manekevich, and Andre Smith as upgrades.

I think there’s a decent chance they move on

He played bad games under Roman and Lynn too. His performance at Cincinnati week 10 of 2016, even in a win, was the day I said this guy has to go. Wide receivers were running open all over the darn field and Tyrd was running around in circles behind the line of scrimmage like a fly that has just been zapped and is not quite dead.

I never got to that point with Tyrod until the 2017 season, though the loss at Seattle really made me wonder, because while he played well - he wasn’t able to bring them back from behind when it mattered.

To his credit, he did lead the Bills to a lead very late in the 4th quarter against a playoff bound Miami Dolphins team and in the process threw for over 300 yards.  I thought he had turned the corner that day for the better.

  5. I don’t think we’ll see a whole new Tyrod in 2020.  He’ll be exactly what he’s been his whole career.  We’ll see him make some good plays with his legs, take care of the football, and probably hit a few nice deep passes downfield.  If the team can get ahead he’ll do a very good job nursing that lead.

I don’t think he’ll be the QB who can bring you back when falling behind or the QB who can lead the team to a TD on the last drive.

If anything, we know that Tyrod is a really good person so I’m rooting for him in SD.

  6. I never thought he was a serious option for Buffalo.  The team likes the versatility Singletary and Moss offer as runners.  Fournette, while good, is more one-dimensional.  That means he’d end up 3rd on the depth chart.  For a RB that wouldn’t get many carries, would not contribute on special teams, and would carry a $4M price tag.  PLUS a RB who allegedly had locker room issues in the past, the deal just didn’t make sense for a position not of need.

I think if you follow the moves Beane makes, you knew this was a deal that probably wasn’t going to happen.  Just like you know Clowney to Buffalo will never happen this year

No wonder why your screename is “Logic.”  This move couldn’t have been summarized any more concise!

  7. As many have pointed out - it seems to be a no-brainer!

The problem is many teams know that the Bills are stacked at WR and will likely be releasing the WR’s you mentioned.  They really have to like a player to trade a pick (even if it is a 6th or 7th) because they are scared of another team swooping in.

Its like buying something at the end of a yard sale, when you know they’ll just put the stuff out on a curb.

Also, I don’t think that not having a preseason could hurt the value of some of these players.

  8. From everything I’ve read recently, it seems like a better chance that both sides will get a deal done.

Oddly enough, there were a few sites that speculated the Bills could be a candidate for Kamara.  While it makes sense on paper, I’m not sure that they would go all-in on a RB position with Singletary and Moss under cheap contracts for multiple years.

Also trading Kamara will probably come with signing him to a new deal - which again, I can’t see that happening in Buffalo with Milano, Tre and others looking at new deals soon

It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if they do and they do it in a big way. No matter what you still have to watch it on tv so why not from the parking lot? To me the Bills’ Mafia tailgating isn’t just tailgating, it’s an event. All the activities from Pinto Ron to all the way to just chilling and grilling I have never seen any fan base get so up for a home game. Thoughts?

I think there’s a good chance of this happening, obviously not at the stadium but at a public location.  I don’t see the pandemic forcing Pinto Ron to not pass around the communication bowling ball shot ???

Maybe it wasn't, and i'm fine with him stating that based on my previous response. What I do have a problem with is his consistent issue with complimenting Allen then slighting right after. It's not a huge deal its just annoying.

You’re not completely wrong.  Thad does throw around some snarky comments and Bills criticism on Twitter and yes, it does get annoying.

I think we missed an opportunity here.. Would have been nice to have him opposite of Epenesa for the next 5-6 years... A 2nd and a 5th ain’t much for a perennial 10 sack a year DE... but Beane knows more than I.... I trust the process.. DE will probably be a high priority position for us in next year’s draft...

Missed an opportunity?  I don’t remember ever hearing that the Bills were in on Yannick....well other than posts in this forum.

It comes down to excitement. Fitz actually had some good passing offenses. Tyrod never did. We had some good running offenses under Tyrod, but that's it.

Tyrod was also more frustrating to watch because he never took risks and held onto the ball. Fitz was a gunslinger and took lots of risks, sometimes getting big rewards and sometimes getting picked off.

Tyrod kind of had a flat, low-key personality. Fitz was funny, smart, and humble, and he rallied the troops well.

BUT, Tyrod was the more successful Bills QB overall and he is underrated.

Fitz is liked as a person and leader more than as an actual player. Most fans realize he wasn't a good enough QB to win with because of his physical limitations and taking too many risks.

It was time to move on from both of them.

It’s a mix of personality and on-field results.

Fitzpatrick is a smart, quick witted guy who would do silly things like stop shaving during the season.  His interviews were always a lot of fun!.

Tyrod is a tremendous person but very soft-spoken.  He comes off as likeable but not in the same was as Fitz.  So personality wise, it’s easier to see how fans would be draw toward Fitzpatrick.

In terms of style, Fitzpatrick put the Bills in positions to compete with teams above their level. There were multiple times, he single handedly kept the Bills in the game.  He also engineered one of the biggest upsets versus New England, and he essentially became a hero that day.  That’s his signature win.

Tyrod had his moments but he never really had that one signature victory against a good team ik a shootout.  Also what holds Tyrod back is his 2017 season.  His risk-averse style of play coupled with a conservative and antiquated offense resulted in some painful football.

Also I can’t remember it off the top of my head, but Tyrod’s WL in close games was really terrible

I do remember at a young age so many fans during the Miracle at Rich playoffs getting mad when the Bills put a healthier Kelly back in the week after a Reich led team beat Pittsburgh in the Divisional round. After Kelly dismantled Miami it made me start to realize fans should not make personnel decisions.

You aren’t completely wrong about fans not making personnel decisions.

But I think your memory of Kelly’s performance was not as strong in actuality.  I remember Kelly being somewhat Rusty that game.
He threw for 177 yards and 2 INT and he struggled to get the team in the end zone (same thing happened the next week in SB27) He hardly “dismantled” them and got a huge boost from Thurman and Kenneth Davis both rushing and receiving and course a great defensive performance.

I don’t think it’s inconceivable that Reich could have led the team to victory that day.

On 8/26/2020 at 10:37 PM, Mr. WEO said:

In '92, Reich appeared in 16 regular season games and threw 47 passes for 221 yards, 0 TDs, 2 ints and completed 51% of his passes.

I think you should consider whether 208 posts is an unreasonable goal.

To be fair the majority of this work was mop up duty with 2nd team players or meaningless games at the end of year.
