Game Day Thread? Colts @ Bills

That's horseshite, obviously. If he's the #2, he needs to be able to play even if Josh takes every snap, so he can tell Josh what he's seeing. -

Have we already got the 2's in on defense? -

Who pulled out? -
I am not worthy. I was not posting then, but I was here. I had a good google search for the original thread and could not find it. Basically, it was a post where someone extolled a fritatta recipe featuring pickle juice, and was arguing with a professional chef ( @Chef Jim, who is still around sometimes) about his recipe. It evolved from people calling it a "short bus fritatta" to a "###### fritatta" to a "retatta"

I think, before potentially diving down a wormhole of misunderstanding in further discussion, I need to ask you what you mean by tactical and what you mean by strategic in this context Because part of the behavior you believe you see - "the team really needs a CB on day 1 of the draft" "I must come out of day 1 with a receiving talent", IF it is what's occurring, sounds like what I would call draft strategy. How you get there (trade up, stand pat and reach, trade back) sounds like tactics.
-
OK. But I do think after the draft, every GM channels his "inner cat" You know, how a cat will fall off the edge of a table and then give you a look like "I meant to do that. Obviously, that was what I wanted to do". The players they wind up with are the ones they really wanted and are thrilled they had the opportunity to draft. After the draft, when talking up their draft picks, no "spin" intended at all 😇

to @Gunnerbill's point, it's notable that in this video, Beane is busy wheeling and dealing (and has his crew querying) to see what he can get if he moves back. I didn't here that in 2022, but it's hard to prove a negative. If you had any links to articles and videos demonstrating that, would be cool.

Beane did say they had a first-round grade on one of the receivers who was drafted in the early 20s, before Kincaid. He didn't say which one (natch) and he didn't give any indication who he would have taken if they were both there. I don't think you (or any of us) can know whether the Bills did, in fact, "laser in on a pass catcher" or say "we must have a pass catcher". And I don't think Beane was flying by the seat of his pants "oh, there's only one pass catcher we want left, and we really need one, let's give up a 4th" On the other hand, obviously roster building does have to factor into it to some degree, or you wind up drafting CB (for example) every year when you have real needs at every position. My guess would be that the Bills have a handful of guys, maybe 10-15, they have graded as first round talents then a smaller set, maybe 6, they have graded as a match between 1st round talent and roster-building needs. They probably have 1 or 2 they would be willing to use resources to trade up for. And then I suspect they work scenarios - three draft picks ahead of our slot, how many of those guys are left? And how high is our grade on the ones that are left? Are they players we have flagged as "trade up worthy?" Because if it gets to 3 picks ahead of you and you have 2 guys graded as 1st round picks who remain, your choice is 1) trade up 2) stand pat and trade down if you can 3) stand pat and reach That's how I think it happens, not "Oh my goodness, we MUST have a pass catcher, so much that we'll squander resources and trade up to get one".

The press is really hyping up his "first start against the Buffalo Bills" and his desire to "get the W". Dude, it's preseason. The Bills best two offensive players have already been ruled out by the coach. Meanwhile Thursday in practice:

It amazed me to learn Gabbert is still in the league -
Glad to know it, Man. Stay safe. Really tough break for a lot of folks, though

I guess this would be the place to ask @GoBills808 you OK, man? Your farm on the Big Island I think, not as hard hit as Oahu but still seeing fires? They posted before and after fire pictures of the banyan tree, it's still standing but looks as though it is badly burnt https://www.nytimes.com/2023/08/10/us/lahaina-banyan-tree.html

I Hear Ya, Buff716. I don't understand why going 156 miles an hour into the back of another car doesn't constitute sufficient probable cause to draw blood for alcohol and tox screen But then There's a lot about our judicial system that I don't understand, especially its results, so I suppose you're right in the implication that this case would have plenty of company

NFL.com (Zierlein) graded him 6.7, "year 1 starter". Shows that scouting is still, not an exact science......

Keenum got a nice 2 year contract from them = $4M guaranteed. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/houston-texans/case-keenum-10079/ I think they see him as the wise veteran mentor. Mills is on the 3rd year of a 4 year contract and they have $0.5M of dead cap if they cut him (signing bonus from this season and next) It's a bit unusual to keep 3 QB on a roster, but the Bills did it the year they drafted Fromm, and backed into doing it when they signed Derek Anderson as the Wise Veteran Mentor then cut Peterman and signed Barkley (or they may have signed Barkley before they cut Peterman, I forget) Overall, unless they're positive Stroud is ready to rock, I would guess that the Texans keep 3 QB this year.

I really like Joe B's "Bills Camp Debrief" in the Athletic. Paywall of course Players who improved their position: Cook, Kincaid, Bates, Rousseau, Lewis Read it and weep, Cam Lewis PTSD sufferers! Players who could use a good preseason showing: Kyle Allen, Khalil Shakir, Tommy Doyle, Shaq Lawson, AJ Klein "a bit uninspiring" 😅. For what it's worth, they did list Brandon Shell ahead of Quessenbery on that depth chart. -
So comes too close to playing lawyer for me, but the point with Ruggs was he pled guilty to one felony charge, vs the 3 felony charges he originally faced. Charge he pled to was "DUI resulting in death" (felony) and "vehicular manslaughter" (misdemeanor) Apparently the original charges would have carried a much longer prison term (when combined I guess)

Might they feel less good about LB, if Bernard's hammy is gonna keep him out a bit? Because?
-
By play last year (when healthy) and by depth chart, Jordan Phillips seems pretty much like a roster lock. Bean has historically been pretty good about trading players just before roster cutdowns. The idea is if the player is traded, they gotta go there (or not play). Once they hit FA, they can pick their spot.

Dude. Josh Allen's annual average value on his current contract is $43M/yr. Full Swing says their pro simulator is $55k. Suppose there are bells and whistles and extra courses that double the cost to $110k. That's like 0.25% (not 2.5%, 0.25%) of Josh's AAV. It's like a person with ~$130k annual income dropping ~$300 on a Shark AI robot vac at Costco. If it lets him unwind by spending 15-20 minutes in his basement practicing his golf swing instead of booking time at a local venue and driving there/driving back, it probably frees up more time for him to recover from the game and watch extra film - good use of that 0.25% of 1 years $$

It's not even the collection. The claim is that the judge did not have "probable cause" to issue the warrant for a blood draw of a man who just crashed into a vehicle doing 156 mph and was taken to hospital instead of having that delayed for a field sobriety test; the judge was not told he smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes, and had admitted to drinking. This really puked me out. It's not right to delay hospital transport of a patient who might require prompt treatment in order to administer a field sobriety test, but it's also not right to be able to turn the fact that there wasn't a field sobriety test prior to hospital transport into a roadblock or "get out of drunk driving charges free" card if transport is not delayed for the field test. I ain't a lawyer, but it seems to me the Your take is not controversial to me, but the charges revolved around BAC thus the prosecutor cares. I'm totally down with that, as long as you can arrange for the girl and her dog to get a 2nd chance, unburnt. Oh, you can't? Well then. He's not just guilty of being a moron. He's guilty of causing someone's death through voluntary choices he made.
