Nobody is afraid of Skylar but hopefully Leslie and the D leave no stone unturned here and take the game more seriously than some fans.

afterall, this is the same unit that gave up 34 completions, 65%, 327 yards in Kenny Pickett’s first start…and outright lost to Zach Wilson which is an embarrassment based on his other games this season.

Kenny Pickett was all garbage time.  The Zach Wilson game was more the jets picking on Terrell Bernard all game which won’t be an option this time.  The falloff from Edmunds/Milano to Bernard is massive and the jets took advantage.  If we had both our starting linebackers we would’ve shut the jets out

valley boy seems upset. Hate to see it.

It’s crazy because he’s completely wrong haha.  It literally proves the opposite of what he’s trying to say.  How was tua even allowed to re-enter that bills game when mahomes wasn’t?

and tua has memory loss after his second documented concussion…clearly mahomes didn’t have that

tua did come back from his stumble hit in the same game and didn’t go into concussion protocol after the bills game I don’t think. Mahomes came out of the game right after that hit and never returned despite the playoffs being on the line.  This proves the opposite of their point

this recent bout tua literally has proven long term memory loss after already having one other documented concussion this season(possibly 2 others) I’m not sure what that twitter person is getting at.

tua remembered the interception plays in the postgame and had completely forgotten them by the next day

concussions vary greatly in severity and that one he sustained in the bengals game was very bad

Really? How do you know this? Was it reported at some point and I missed it? Not saying you're wrong or anything, I just don't recall that from anywhere.

There’s something pretty puzzling going on with this most recent concussion. I just don’t get how you can play him a couple weeks later when he experienced mental confusion like that after his second concussion this season. In the post game press conference tua talked about individual plays at length and how they cost his team the game.

then the next day supposedly Mike McDaniel asked him about certain decisions he made on plays during the film session and he ‘couldn’t recall the plays’ -Jay Glazer

so he must’ve had some pretty serious long term memory issues beginning after the game which could last a long time

I just think it isn't entirely in their hands. The independant neurologist must clear him and given everything that happened in that first Bills game and the Damar incident there will be no risks taken. I think he is only getting cleared if he actually should be cleared.

Now maybe be will be cleared. But at the moment he is not out there at practice so he is at best in stage 2 of the protocol. If he isn't at least in stage 3 by tomorrow which is "football specific exercise" then the chances of him being through stage 3, 4 and to stage 5 (where he is cleared by the club doctor and the independent neurologist) by Sunday is slim to none.

Maybe someone has tipped them off that he is at stage 3 and will practice tomorrow. But he kinda needs to be or else it points pretty strongly towards him not playing.

There’s a small chance he’s medically cleared and still doesn’t play.  That dolphins oline could be Swiss cheese depending on if armstead/shell play.  The re injury risk is pretty high if he’s medically cleared or not.

im not sure if we’d ever find out he was medically cleared in that case though cuz their fans would probably go ballistic if they knew

Thanks. Appreciate the context I didn’t know what 49ers ran. Was countering some points from the other poster about running cover 2 against Miami.  He thought that was bad cause of the timing offense miami runs. I don’t disagree with the thought but our results disagree we can’t run cover 2. He said something about 49ers success and man coverage and I didn’t realize. I would expect us to continue to play nickel as taron has played every snap against Miami this year. With mostert having a thumb issue I think we stand a better chance in the run game.

You’re not the only way to say that so it could be me just being wrong 😂

Vegas just moved line from 10.5 to 9. Assume we hear Tua will play soon enough.

That very well might be based on bridgewater.  McDaniel said pretty recently he was very close to being able to play against the jets.  Bills -9.5 with bridgewater starting sounds right

the way he’s talked about tua it’s more likely he doesn’t play I’d say but it’s impossible to know.  The 49ers are -9.5 against the Seahawks for reference

Niners did fine I agree.  But to my point they didnt do as well as we did either time in terms of pass yards.  i agree fins will throw to the spot where they expect a hole.  but i very much disagree we dont mess with the receivers getting to the spot.  you think the ONLY way to do this is by press man?  Frazier knows how to do it by disguising and rotating coverage post snap.  Frazier knows where they want to put the ball and puts someone there they didnt expect.  If you cant run cover 2  with Jaquan and Hamlin then why did they hold Tua to his second lowest output of the season (186 yards!) in the first meeting.  The idea that you have to run press man and cant run cover 2 against them is wrong.

Agree we got crushed in the run game in second game, but thats a better reason to say dont run cover 2 against them than that we cant stop the pass with it.  In fact, I think we went to more cover 1 cause we were getting gashed in cover 2.  What happened when we went to man in order to bring a safety into the box, was long passes to Hill and Wilson (others too i cant recall).  You go to war with the army you have, not the army you want.  The army we have can stop them better with cover 2 than it can with cover 1 (though we are pretty good in cover 2 man or cover 1 lurk/rat).

Maybe I’m taking crazy pills and I apologize if so lol but the 49ers really didn’t appear to be playing press man to me.  Brandon Staley even commented on how different the niners gameplan was.  They seemed to be playing what people around here call ‘the Leslie Frazier special’ lol lots of soft zone/cover 4 and cover 2 shell in the secondary and rushing 4…their linebackers tackled well and closed so fast on underneath throws though and they were stout against the run. Milano had a really bad night for us against the dolphins.

Miami runs a lot of heavy sets that dare you to throw a third linebacker out there and we tried to ride it out in the nickel and had an awful night tackling

Bills Away: Patriots, Dolphins, Jets, Commanders, Chiefs, Chargers, Eagles, Bengals

Seriously? 3 years in a row @ Arrowhead?

    And @ Cinci 2x?

    WTF!!!

It’s going to be 3 in a row in buffalo after that…the afc east vs afc west division placement games have doubled up home teams in back to back years the last few rotations

Its different from a football player that gives and takes hits.  If he had fusion or cages put in, the bone takes a long time to heal.  This isnt mental thats holding him back.  Its the idea of him being hit while the bone is still not fully healed.  Its different than working in a factory or whatever normal day to day jobs that a normal person does.

Yea that’s true…i goofed on when he had the surgery too so I’d agree it’s extremely unlikely.  Figured it was closer to the bills titans game but it was about a month later.

4 months I could see it being in that ‘fully healed but risky to return’ window where a player might go for it since it’s the playoffs (assuming the medical staff clears them and depending on the severity of the injury).  But 3 months just seems too risky

From The Ringer, on Miami and Tua:

“Miami’s only win in a game without him came against Joe Flacco and the Jets in Week 18. Tagovailoa also finished the season third in EPA per dropback (0.18), behind Mahomes and Allen; backups Teddy Bridgewater and Skylar Thompson averaged minus-0.03 and minus-0.27 EPA per dropback, respectively.”

In a futile attempt to prevent “Tua is garbage” responses: No, he is not Josh Allen. We all know that.

But he is essential to this Dolphins offense. Teddy Bridgewater is a better than average backup, but they’ve been terrible with him. Skyler Thompson actually is replacement level garbage. If Tua is in there (and stays in there) and doesn’t show any immediate ill effects of the latest concussion, this will be a game. If he’s out, it’s a blowout.

Tua being that much better than bridgewater is exaggerated imo. They have different skill sets which gave tua a big edge early while there wasn’t much film on the new look dolphins offense but the diminishing returns were huge.  He’s accurate and he gets rid of the ball quick but teams wised up to where he likes to go with the football.  Bridgewater is better at going through reads and improvising when a play breaks down.

tua is just always injured for tough defensive matchups which makes the total win/loss of the various qbs argument completely meaningless.  The bills and ravens defenses were absolutely decimated by injuries early in the year then tua got a long string of layup games.

Bridgewater/Thompson started against NYJ X 2 and NE behind a very shoddy oline due to injuries.  the Vikings d was gettable and bridgewater moved the ball fine he just had a couple tough turnovers.  Vs cincy, bridgewater actually looked better than tua when he came in in the second half. So out of the 5 games tua missed, 3 were against great defenses,1 was against a good defense, and one was against a good team with a bad defense

tua would’ve looked horrible also in the NYJ game last weekend.   I thought Thompson played pretty well considering.  No armstead or Brandon shell, no mostert, and tyreek hill and waddle were both far from 100%

If we saw tua light up the jets once maybe the vibe would be different,  but he mostly ran up the score against terrible teams imo.

He has a 6-9 month recovery before he can even be cleared for contact lol.  He’s not coming back

He had a herniated disc in his neck?  There’s enormous variability in how long recovery could take with or without surgery.  From life experience (obviously I’m not a professional football player lol) 6-9 months sounds outrageously overly cautious if you’re strictly accounting for physical healing.  The physical recovery only takes about 2-3 months.

could be mental things at work for why it usually takes players longer which are entirely on him.  I don’t think he’d be working out at practice if he didn’t see it as at all possible

The two division placement games are on the same cycle, but offset by 1 year which is why there is always the possibility of 3 straight at one stadium (assuming both teams end up in the same place in the division).

Right I thought that would be too confusing to throw in there haha so I focused on why you can get two away division placement games against the same division in a row 😂

They can't though, because it would create unequal numbers of home/away games or having teams play two teams from the same division.

Was just gonna say that…every team needs one home division placement type game and one away one(ignoring the extra nfc game for simplicity)  the years you play a certain entire division you don’t do a division placement game against that division and those divisions rotate.

this year we had division placement games against AFC West and AFC south and next year we have division placement games against the AFC south and AFC north and play the entire AFC West.

the last two seasons we had two division placement games in a row against the AFC west which led to us traveling to kc both times so the division placement stuff lined up right for every team.

With damar hamlin injury and nfl focused on player safety there is absolutely zero chance they allow tua to take field. If they did, he would only get himself hurt again. Its in dolphins best interests to sit him and let him recover if they think he is their future.

Seems like a really risky proposition with their offensive line banged up.  Armstead may be playing hurt or miss the game, Brandon shell will probably miss the game.  If armstead and shell can’t go they’ll be starting Greg little who is absolutely horrendous and Robert jones. I don’t think I’d even put a healthy qb behind those guys lol

Same for Diggs getting the players to huddle up and giving them an impassioned speech, and the Bills players defensive players putting their helmets on.

Don’t see that happening if no one in a position of authority (NFL) hadn’t told them they were expected to warm up and get back to the game.

I normally wouldn’t mind because the right decision was reached and the focus should be on the trainers for saving Hamlins life but McDermott and Taylor deserve all the credit in the world for standing up to the league and this NFL cover up buries that.

it’s not really about wanting another reason to be mad at the league at all. Especially for zac Taylor who had every reason to want the game resumed later in the week

    Is this "revelation" somehow news?

It was fairly obvious the night of the game that this is how it played out, and that didn't surprise me at all.

Do you really think billion dollar business is going to voluntarily detour itself because a player was hurt?

The NFL's position at the time was "he's off the field now, let's play football" and the 2 teams at the scene chose not to continue.

It's not a pleasant situation but that's the country you folks live in.

    No surprises here.

It must be because the majority of the people in r/nfl were praising the nfl for handling it perfectly and anyone suggesting the nfl wanted to continue the game was pretty much attacked lol.  Maybe we have a different perspective in Bills world

the theory was ‘joe Buck misrepresented the normal ambulance protocol as what was happening currently on the field’ but ESPN stuck to their guns so that went out the window pretty fast

I was told ‘so you actually think ESPN broadcasters have a way to communicate with the league office?’ many times and the answer to that was clearly a yes lol

  18. I took some flak on Reddit for suggesting the NFL did not handle this very well and the bills/bengals saved the nfl’s bacon.  I wonder if it was all NFL employee burner accounts haha

it was pretty obvious that was what happened.  The bengals wouldn’t have randomly started warming up during an indefinite delay

Even against the Jets defense Hill and Waddle were running wide open and just needed a qb who could get the ball to them.  Skylar Thompson was awful.

If Tua is on his A game then we may have trouble containing their passing attack if our defense played like it did against the Pats.  It wouldn’t surprise me if it came down to the wire against them again in a shootout if Tua plays.

I watched that game for an unfortunately long time and tua would not have fared much better imo.  Skylar was constantly being pressured off his spots because the dolphins oline is Swiss cheese right now.  Tuas decision making completely breaks down when he has to adjust in the pocket…I think Skylar and bridgewater are actually better than tua in that regard
