Honest question-is this based off of an experience you have had? Are you in the medical field? I only ask because I assume (in my completely unqualified opinion) the docs who are working with him have kept him in a coma this long because that is what will Help him recover best

It’s the standard procedure for situations involving cardiac arrest…they ease the patient into resuming normal brain activity.

Anyone know what other boards, particularly Chiefs, Bengals, Ravens, Pats boards, are saying regarding this question? Just curious if there's any overall perspective difference.

I was reading through the chiefs forum briefly and it seems like they feel terrible about the whole situation but don’t believe their team should be penalized with games getting rescheduled  and whatnot

No one is saying that. At least I'm not. I think you are taking many people's posts out of content.

All we have to go by is the 5 minutes and change of the game. With respect, it certainly wasn't going as planned or hoped by Bills players or fans. That's the point I am making. From the start, the Bills D was getying gashed and smashed. Sorry, there is no other way to say it or see it.

Now, could the Bills come back and win the game? Absolutely they could have. We've seen it time and time again. This team is tough, resilient,  and does win close games.

However, the Bills were behind early, on the road, playing an excellent team with an elite QB and excellent receivers, and extremely banged up and thin in the secondary. Add that all up and it's a tough sell to me seeing the Bills win.

I still don’t really agree with this even with the 5 minutes we saw…the bills oline was dominating and the bengals oline was holding on for dear life. If the bills can run the football they are nearly impossible to stop and it was much more likely the bills were going to get home for a big time sack than the bengals.

that game was far from a likely loss

Maybe I'm the ####### here, but I just don't give a ***** about any of this.  At this point, the Bills could take the L for the Bengals and forfeit the Pats game.  It sucks from a football perspective and for all the hard work the players put in, but I think the players will tell you that none of this matters.

Hamlin's health is literally all that matters at this point.  I get that some people need to distract themselves in times like this, but I honestly feel like the majority of people talking standings are just being selfish.  The football part will play itself out.  But right now, it just doesn't matter.

I almost wish this thread was pinned and locked, because the interest being on the wrong things is disturbing to me

You mentioned it in a throwaway sentence but I personally really only care about the playoff seeding because the players have worked so hard and fought through so much adversity this season. It may not happen in the next week or two, but they may rally and want a chance to win it all for demar.  If the players and coaches decided they wanted to end the season right now I would 100% endorse that decision.

I can’t speak for everyone but for me it has absolutely nothing to do with wanting to see my team win a Super Bowl. to me caring about demars health/the well being of the players is not some mutually exclusive idea to them being given a chance to compete still should they want it.

I don’t see any fair option other than giving the Bills the L and Cinci the W. At the end of the day, the Bills decided not to continue the game, which was the right decision, and the Bengals chose not to protest it.  Bills chose to forfeit, and I am 100% behind that decision.  Play next week and see where the chips fall.

The only way to play this game would be to extend the season by a week, which then pushes out the playoffs a week, giving all playoff teams except the Bills and Bengals a bi week and the 1 seeds two weeks off.  I’m sure that would be a scheduling nightmare.

At the end of the day both coaches seemed to agree to not finish the game.  If one coach doesn’t want to restart the game and one does, then you might see a forfeit.  But I doubt that’s going to happen.

I really don’t think the bengals could’ve played in those conditions either…they might not have known demar personally but I’m sure it really shook them up as well.  Especially Higgins

Ugh - I’ll be the first to say it’s none of our business but had quiet hope that this statement would have some sort of positive undertone to glean. A “he’s currently stable but we don’t know the road ahead” or something would’ve eased my worries for him slightly.

His vitals being stable is not really the cause for potential concern at this point so there’s not a whole lot of info they could’ve said to put anyone at ease.

His heart rate is normal now and they have him on a ventilator to ease his brain back into resuming normal activity while they monitor things but until they take him off that they really won’t know if there’s any long term damage.

I think they have ways of telling if there is really serious brain damage while the patient is sedated so no news is good news at this point

Lol, imagine  Diggs beating a 250 pound middle linebacker..... simply incredible for a WR with his lack of ability to do such a thing. I wish Chase could beat a LB....

I understand the optimism, but it certainly seemed the Bills were having a tougher time gaining yards than Cincy.   Hope Hamlin is ok, this game could have been epic.

I find it hard to believe the cincy oline would continue to be allowed to hold as badly as they were for 4 quarters so I think the bills were moving the ball easier in reality.  There was an absolutely egregious hold on just about every offensive snap for cincy.  At some point the bills dline was going to take over or the bills would have stopped blitzing if they were just letting holds go in this one.  It’s hard to say what would’ve happened defensively

I agree that the game was by no means over.  But that was a secondary reason to forfeit.

McDermott should take the forfeit for the benefit of the league.

He can say he wasn't bringing his team back out after what happened (and I believe he will be speaking the truth).  It was the Bills that weren't going to resume playing- regardless of what the league said.  So while the Bills appreciate the league actions the Bills will accept the consequences and forfeit the game.

Assuming the ‘it was mcdermotts decision to not put his players out there to finish the game’ point is true ,  there’s no way I’d even consider doing anything to be an nfl company man after the actions of last night if I were McDermott.

in that scenario McDermott and Taylor stepped in and saved the NFL from making possibly the biggest blunder in sports history and that’s how you’re gonna repay his team who has battling through adversity all year?

if the nfl decides on a makeup date and the bills decide not to play,  I’d leave it up to the bengals if they want the game to be treated as a forfeit or not but I would certainly not conclude a bills forfeit is the only option if I were the league .

The more I think about it, the only scenario that seems plausible is the league offering a make-up date to continue the game, and the Bills declining and choosing to forfeit.

Any other scenario disadvantages too many other teams and, while that is far from the most important issue right now, it simply is something that won't be entertained in the name of competitive integrity.

I think the bengals would ‘forfeit’ too in solidarity based on how it’s been handled by them so far and it would go down as a tie

  10. 13 minutes ago, Einstein's Dog said:

I think along your lines.  The Bills may come out with a statement that they will forfeit.  Say the league offered them a chance to replay and they declined.

It just helps the league out of a tricky situation with the Bills taking the hit.  The Bills were behind and it was a Bills player that went down.  Plus there were rumors that McD wasn't bringing the team back out no matter what the league said.

While the Superbowl odds may decrease, the overall Bills brand will shine.  And there will be an undercurrent of support Nationwide.

The bills were behind but getting the ball to start the second half so that really doesn’t mean anything.  Given how easily we were moving the ball too it could’ve easily been a double dip scenario

I find it hard to believe the bills were losing that game…any thought of ‘they should be happy if it goes down as a tie’ or ‘they wouldve lost the game if Hamlin didn’t get injured anyway so why not take the extra rest’ is not necessarily accurate imo.  It was going to be a shootout and the bengals have an immobile qb with a timebomb at RT.

  11. 6 minutes ago, Robert Paulson said:

i didn't understand why they were blitzing either.  Burrow is the least efficient against a 3 man rush and fully zone- why did we do the opposite?

Bengals had a huge weak link on the offensive line that the bills wanted to test…nfl seemed to decide this was a ‘let them play’ game though and the bengals oline was holding badly on every play. Not sure if they would’ve cracked down on it as the game went on but it was very noticeable

Prayers go out to Hamlin. That's obviously the most important priority! Waiting in agony for positive results.

However, maybe we can just talk a little football just to escape reality and cope with the sad occurrence of events. With no disrespect, I'd like to address the 5 min and change of the game. Please no disrespect is intended.

Bengals elected to get the ball and moved through the Bills D like Swiss cheese. They made an early statement that their offense had no fear is was superior to the Bills D. They immediately went after Tre. Tre is not the Tre of old. No way can he play Chase one on one. Very surprised that the Bills immediately blitzed Burrow. Burrow has killed the blitz all year. Not sure what Fraizer was thinking. After that, it was Burrow playing catch with his receivers. Early on it appeared that the Bills secondary and zone was over matched by their receivers. Their second drive which ended in the tragic event started out similarly to the first. At this point it looked as though the Bills couldn't stop their potent offense. Question is would they be able to make adjustments and tighten up? They have done this in the past.

The Bills offensively on their first and only drive looked good. The were well balanced mixing in the run and pass. It was quite different than the explosive fast striking offense of the Bengals. The Bills methodically moved the ball down the field. It was clear the Bengals were going to pressure Allen. It looked like the Bills O was working very hard for every yard and first down. Tough way to score because I felt like the Bills had to be precise on every play with little room for error. Turned out to be true with the Beasley missed pass and catch.

My early thoughts of the game were that this was going to be a very difficult game for the Bills to win. Bengals offense was simply too good and too explosive for the Bills. Meanwhile, the Bills offense was had little room for error. Allen was going to be pressured throughout the game. I still felt like the Bills offense would score plenty.

We will never know how they game would have ended. Just pure speculation on my part. Early on the Bengals were the much better team.

What makes you say Allen was going to be pressured?  The bills offensive line was absolutely obliterating the bengals in the running and passing game. That was certainly headed for a shootout and I would’ve had my money on buffalo honestly…bills are pretty much unstoppable when they can run the football and I’d take the bills getting one or two stops over the bengals doing so seeing as Burrow is immobile and their RT was horrendous and getting away with obvious holds the whole first drive

If the bills had the first possession and punted, maybe you get into the discussions about them potentially being too far behind to come back with the defense struggling to get stops.  But as it stood I see no reason to assume the bills wouldn’t have marched right down the field and matched a bengals td

That isn't a forfeit. The NFL won't give out wins not earned. They either say the Bills forfeit, or declare a "no contest" as of the game was never played. A Bills forfeit is the cleanest result for the league. Not so great for us.

I just can’t see a forfeit…I think the nfl will choose a potential makeup date and leave it up to the teams whether they want to play.  given how the bengals have handled things so far I doubt they’d push for the game to be played which is what it would take for the game to be treated as a bills forfeit imo. And if the nfl decides not to have a game it’s not going to be treated as a forfeit

Yea I think our oline has hit their groove run blocking too.  I’ve seen people saying cincy was on their way to a win but I just don’t see it.  The way the game was going I think the bills would’ve won a shootout and at worst for us it was up in the air

Is that really any different than not playing your starters though which the Bills could elect to do? The Bills don’t owe Pitt or MIA anything.

This situation likely wouldn’t have happened otherwise…the bills would be playing for the 1 and 2 seed if they lost to the bengals and played all their starters. I don’t think it’s a large enough complaint to effect any of the decision making but it’s certainly going to affect the playoff picture pretty significantly if the bills rest starters

Yes it would be an advantage for KC but IMO it would be smaller advantage then any alternative approach.  It's one thing for the Bills to collect themselves and play next Sunday against NE it would be another for the season to be extended and the Bills play Cincinnati next Sunday.  Resuming the game at the exact spot on the field and stadium where Damar Hamlin went down would place the Bills at a competitive disadvantage.

There’s no way they play the cincy game after the week 18 games imo.  It’s either gonna be in the next few days or not at all

I’m assuming whatever they do they’re going to leave the final decision of whether to play up to both teams

There is ZERO chance the Bills are playing 2 games in 5 days then possibly a playoff game 6 days after any Monday night game.

I said this last night I’ll say it again.  If the updates on Damar are still critical, there will not be any games this weekend.

I’m not at all saying you’re wrong about what should happen but i don’t believe a lot of this is true.  The NFL would absolutely slide the bills pats game back if they end up deciding they want to attempt to reschedule the game later this week.  I’m sure they will give the teams the final word on whether they want to play or not and the bills very likely will decline anyway and I really can’t see the bengals pushing for it to be counted as a forfeit

there will absolutely be games this weekend though

    Yes, we had definitely lost.

Have no idea why the Vikings didn’t pack up and leave halfway through the game against the Colts either.

Or against us…we were beating the Vikings worse at halftime than the bengals would’ve been beating us if they scored the td before the game was stopped.  I think we’re undefeated when losing at halftime this season funny enough.
