Micheal Phelps' new training regime
The Senator replied to The Poojer's topic in Off the Wall Archives
So now we know why he has such a healthy appetite. -
With age comes wisdom (and plagiarism), so I will offer this credo - "Work like you don't need the money, love like you've never been hurt, dance like no-one is watching, screw like it's being filmed, and drink like a true Irishman!" Thanks all, for the kind birthday wishes - much vino and vodka was consumed and, to the best of my recollection, I had a grand time! A belated Happy Natal Anniversary to my fellow TBDers - Bullpen, IDK MY BFF DJ, and sweet baboo - and Happy Groundhog Day to all! Cheers

SKOOOOOOOOBY'S REALLY COOL CAR lynch is an elite running back who does his job and will certainly warrant more $$$ at contract time. peters is currently under contract, bills already gave the undrafted ingrate a huge raise, and are obligated to give him absolutely nothing until he proves he can do more than lead the league in sacks-allowed and maybe even finish a complete season w/out pulling a muscle. end of discussion.

Exxon-Mobil earns record yearly profit
The Senator replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Not surprising at all, really. IIRC, gas was near or over 4 bucks a gallon most of the year - artificially high, and at least one of the leading causes of the current financial meltdown, IMHO. -
Why do they have to eat so much?

Is single malt that much better?

A slight calming, indeed. “It takes only one drink to get me drunk. The trouble is, I can't remember if it's the thirteenth or the fourteenth.” - George Burns -

Is single malt that much better?
The Senator replied to BuffaloBill's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Allow me to proffer these thoughts on the topic at hand - In wine there is wisdom, In beer there is freedom, In water there is bacteria. In a number of carefully controlled trials, scientists have demonstrated that if we drink 1 liter of water each day, at the end of the year we would have absorbed more than 1 kilo of Escherichia Coli (E. Coli) - bacteria found in feces. In other words, by drinking water, we are consuming 1 kilo of poop. However, we do NOT run that risk when drinking wine & beer (or tequila, rum, whisky or other liquor), because alcohol has to go through a purification process of boiling, filtering and/or fermenting. So remember... Water = Poop, Wine = Health . Therefore, it's better to drink wine and talk stupid, than to drink water and be full of schitt. Surely, mead would agree. (There is no need to thank me for this valuable information - I merely provide it as a public service.) Cheers -

All these guys wrestling under multiple names has me very confused. I do know for a fact that no one has ever seen The Dean in the same room with... Pampero Firpo

Call it a 'gut feeling', but I foresee Peters holding out again and again, becoming a malcontent every time someone signs a contract for more than he makes. Time will tell if I'm wrong.
-
True, but you skipped over one crucial element - the huge up-front signing bonuses. As you well know, contracts these days are heavily 'front-loaded' - and I've never seen a player return a signing bonus or offer to take a pay-cut for 'underperforming'. (And I think we all know that it's the huge up-front money that Peters lusts for, so he can dog it for the remainder of his career while chowing down on cheesburgers and twinkies. )

Koko B. Ware also wrestled as Abdullah The Butcher, no?
-
Is that the same guy as 'Mr Perfect'?
-
Um...OK...yeah, sure. Whatever you say.

No, my response comes down to my being offended at some jerk who's never met me presuming to tell me and everyone on this board how I would behave and what my motivations are. Thank you for that instantaneous psychoanalysis, Frazier Crane. Now please move on to your next caller. My comments, and my vitriol, were directed toward Peters - not toward any fellow TSW poster; keep your arrogant assumptions about my character and behavior to yourself, don't presume to lecture me, and we won't be having this argument. "Money is close to oxygen in terms of how much it's needed to live?" Really??? At the poverty level, to be sure - but at the level of a pro athlete's salary, that seems a fairly ridiculous statement. With $4-5M/year, I'm sure Jason will find a way to pay the mortgage, feed his family, and have a little left over for an occasional movie. Your continued insistence that I'm jealous of how much money these guys earn is just plain dumb, particularly in light of the fact that you know nothing about me. I've always maintained that you're worth whatever someone's willing to pay you. Regarding your question about how I'd feel if someone next to me was paid vastly more for the same work, I guess I'd fell like I did a bad job negotiating, or accept the reality that the market and/or circumstances have changed since I last negotiated. I'd do my job , and perform as best I possibly could - then negotiate a more equitable arrangement when the appropriate time came. I also realize that, in the world of pro-athletes, careers are time-limited. That's life. As an example, I often cite Larry Bird who - at the top of this game - was watching new guys come out of college and, having never even touched a ball in the NBA, sign much more lucrative contracts than his. When asked how he felt about that, he reply, "Hey, that's life. It's a contract, I signed it, and I'll honor it. It was a good deal when I signed it. It's just bad timing." Does that give you a little better insight into my psyche, Dr. Crane? Also, as a general rule of thumb, it's pretty ignorant to tell someone you've never met to 'engage their brain before opening their mouth' - it reflects a tone of arrogance and intellectual superiority that, particularly in your case, is totally unjustified. Sorry about the vulgarity. I'll try to refrain from that in the future.
