You literally have that much blind hatred for his stint in buffalo that you disagree that at one point he was one of the best defensive minds in the world?

There is not one person in NFL circles who would say late 90s early 2000 rex Ryan was not a top defensive mind

He was ahead of the game and his system and the numbers they put up show it

His time in Buffalo has nothing to do about how good he was when his head was in the game in his early days

He wasn't a good head coach in Buffalo......  But he was a tremendously good football coach at one point in his life

His Oklahoma Sooners defense was unreal before he went to Baltimore .. where he continually had tremendous defenses ahead of the curve

He definitely started getting full of himself in New York City and that is when he got passed by

He obviously was a joke in Buffalo @GunnerBill

He certainly did not suck his way up the coaching ranks

Yup, his head just wasn't in the game here. But as @GoBills808 said we probably would have made it further in the playoffs. If his head was in the game and its single elimination I'm taking him all day over McD. His ability to scheme is far more advanced. I mean the dude was raised in the game. He blew his chance here but that doesn't take away from the fact that he was considered one of the premier defensive minds in the game for most his career.

Yeah, sorry for being disappointed that we've underachieved during the McBeane era with one of the seemingly greatest QBs to play the game.

I'll try to tone down my expectations to merely being ecstatic to have a team in Buffalo and "making the playoffs."  My bad.

I guess I'll have to hold out hope that our next QB is better than Allen so that we can do a little better come playoff time.

This notion that the Chiefs are unbeatable is built for homers.  The Eagles beat them, the Bucs who hadn't done a thing with what, a 44-year old QB, and so did the Bengals.  But hey, who's looking at the details.  What a defeatest attitude by those blathering on about how we'll never beat KC as long as Mahomes is their QB and Reid their coach.

Either way, call me crazy for expecting more.

So lets run it back, that should work

Yeah, it's great, isn't it.  Our Center and therefore C/QB tandem is new.  We have a couple of #2/3 WRs as our starters alongside a red-shirt rookie, the under/mis-utilized Kincaid, another TE that's become a cap albatross immediately after an extension, and a two-down RB.

I know I'm optimisitic.  But as you said, at least there's no one to challenge Allen's captain status, so I guess that's a good thing.

    ;)

These are pro athletes man. You can make up for a lot of issues by just being united, synched up, and aligned toward the same things. We might have said we were those things before, but look at how we performed when the chips were down. We needed this. Like the Chiefs, we will start to peak toward the end of the year when we need to peak. This needs to be Allen's team for us to take the next step and realistically for Josh to do so as well.

Everything seems to point to a major distraction being removed.  Addition by subtraction.

You can't have a ball hog ragging on your QB during a game. I can see Allen forcing the ball Diggs way just to shut him up while the other receivers go through the motions on plays because they know the cry baby is going to get passified.

Playing hockey we had a puck hog that never passed the puck and the coaches ignored the problem.  Other players open for a shot or in better position to make a play began to understand the situation and just stopped skating.  Why waste your energy.  When he got moved down the bench our team became competitive.

We'll see what happens with the Bills but I'm seeing this as a positive and I bet Josh has a sound full night of sleep tonight knowing the stress and strain of dealing with a diva of over.

100%- I will add, the dynamics with people can be extremely complicated. I think Steph and his personality made it harder for Josh to really take the leadership role by the horns. Allen came in the league and Steph was older, more experienced, more of a presence. The dynamic was fine for Steph at first, he was the alpha, the man. But I think as Allen grew into stardom Steph sort of wanted to maintain that pecking order. Josh isn't loud, he's excessively polite. He's just not the type to drop his Johnson on the ground and take charge. What part of that he did have in him, I think Stephs presence likely made him less likely to express it. But people like Josh can be that way in the right environment. It starts off by not being heavily challenged which was more likely to occur with Steph around. Over time confidence grows and you learn to express yourself as a vocal leader. Now all of our former captains gone this is Allens team. Nobody is left to challenge him. It's such a great opportunity for him to become more than a leader with how he plays. This just feels right to me in so many ways. Excited for the first time all offseason believe it or not.

I was a huge Diggs fan while he was here but I’m 100% on board with the trade.

When we got Diggs, the story from the Vikings was the fact that he was a loud mouthed diva.  And when he arrived the Vikings fans looked so wrong.  Then something changed and he knew he couldn’t be a loud mouthed diva twice.  So instead he turned into a passive aggressive cryptic twitter user.

Him not telling his brother to shut up, him posting cryptic nonsense, playing games at training camp.  I’ve always felt it was wrong, and I won’t miss any of it.  I’ll miss the hell out of the fresh faced guy that arrived here and turned into an elite WR while Josh turned into an elite QB.

I have no doubt the Texans are going to get an older version of the same guy we got from the Vikings.  He’s going to give 110%, say the right things, do the right things, and be the best teammate you can ask for.  But you’ll only get that for so long.

I don't think he could handle Josh being such a mega star. It's fine for Steph when he's the center of attention. If he's not he starts to behave in ways to get the attention back on him.

  7. Diggs does dumb things that strain relationships. He undermines coaches and teammates. He needs the attention which is a trait that has only grown more as Josh's spotlight grew. He turns around and masquerades his bad behavior and poor choices as being misunderstood or competitive. He makes you the problem not his behavior. He is a headcase, eroding talent, and somebody who came up as a no show in the most competitive situations since he has been here. Everybody around him is now better because he is gone. You can't measure the impact of a bad apple. You can't just take the talent by itself. It's not how this works.

You know what, now is a good time to spill the beans on what I was told earlier this year - In the home Patriots game, Diggs chose to sit out the first drive of the 2nd half because he was upset with Allen's play in the 1st half. It wasn't an injury or part of the game plan. He decided to screw over his team and sit out a drive because he couldn't get over himself.

I suspect other stories like this will come out in the coming days. A couple aren't mine to tell. Guy was a total headcase and a major distraction in more ways than one.

Everybody wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt last year. I don't know why based on his actions. But sure, call him misunderstood. Two teams have now traded away the "star" WR. One was better for it, I suspect it will be two when this plays out.

  9. I honestly think this move makes us better. It's one of those deals where I think it will open up Josh even more to be the leader of this offense. Steph is a alpha type who was largely viewed as the leader of our offense. I would much rather that person be Josh. In some ways I think Stephs personality sort of prevented that. Josh is more of a soft spoken leader. Steph was not. A lot of time that could prevent guy like Josh from really coming into his own in that role.

  10. I think we need a WR to supplement our WR position. It has nothing to do with Diggs. Further, I don't even know how much any WR will contribute year one. WR is a complicated position and multiple Bills are on record with how complicated it is to play for us. Josh just did a video and he made this facial expression when asked about it as if to reinforce just how difficult it is. I do think we could see a draft pick potentially turn it on late in the year which is fine, that is when we need it most.

Hey, are you almost done with the information I and others requested to back up your original post?

Seems like it should be extremely easy for you to find, as you actually quoted some of it.

Looking forward to you providing the details, evidence, you mention, so that we can more realistically and adequately answer the questions you pose in your OP.

Thanks in advance, once again, for getting that information out asap, info that was clearly needed in the original post. But, better late than never!

Otherwise you merely smear our quarterback with BS nonsense, when you propose to be defending him...

Lamar hilariously enough has 1 WC win in his career. He’s gotten clowned by the Titans, the Bills and now the Chiefs.

If he wasn’t a 2 time MVP, and there weren’t so many weird racial overtones in his commentary for good and for ill, he would be fighting the “fraud” allegations far more than just about any QB in the league.

As much as I like to watch Lamar and think he’s special, he might be legit like the 12th QB I’d want for a playoff run.

The not so funny part is we have been to the same amount of AFC championship games as he has. So what does that say?

Andy Reid coached for twenty years before reaching the Super Bowl.  The book on him during that stretch was that he was a good regular-season coach but didn't have what it takes to succeed in the playoffs.  Now he practically owns the Lombardi.

Reid didn't suddenly become a better coach.  He's the same coach he was when he supposedly wasn't good enough in the playoffs.  Making a playoff off run culminating in a Super Bowl win is hard and the stars need to align: good coaching staff, good roster, good health heading into the playoffs, maybe some luck with calls and bounces...

Allen will be the guy who can't win big games until he does.  It's not his fault and it's not factual.  It's just how sports commentary works.

Reid was 11-13 with no Super Bowls prior to Mahomes

Reid is 15-3 with 3 Super Bowls after Mahomes

Why do people try and complicate things.

Yeah, I haven't heard it either, and I do listen to some sports shows.

You're right on target. He's sensational, and he could be even better, particularly at just executing the plays as they're drawn up.

    This is stupid.

Like Allen wasn't good enough in the 13 seconds game? Nonsense.

This thread is like the rest of the Josh Allen is hated threads. Look at his playoff stats. Look at his total TD's. He's the best in the NFL. Meanwhile we can't even get to an AFC championship game. The only comeback playoff anything we have is a game we lost and cling to like a 4 year and his teddy bear. A lot of reasons why and sorry to break to you but until these things don't happen with freakish consistency or we have a game winning playoff drive maybe, just maybe, Josh is among the reasons. Unthinkable I know.

I agree with you regarding Lamar, but I think it's stupid that he's probably more of a lock for the HOF than Josh right now.

Josh has almost 60 more TDs over the span of his career (both drafted in 2018), lots more wins, lots more total yards, lots more 4th Quarter Comebacks, lots more Game Winning Drives, lots more playoff wins, etc.

    Yet....

Josh and Lamar are both stone cold killers when it comes to division titles, rushing TD's, and wild card playoff games.

  16. I wonder if we even know what our approach will be with personnel. I could see the player groups being similar to what we see on offense and defense where the coverage teams are more tilted toward speed and the kickoff teams more size. As some have said this is more like a stretch run play. We might even see offensive lineman on the return squads. Will LB's and TE types rule these plays? Certainly demand for returners will be high by all teams. I wonder if teams would consider burning a roster spot for a specialist when two returners are likely required and only one TD was even scored  last year in the XFL. So who knows how valuable these guys will be? This play will make for a really interesting addition to the season.
