  1. I thought Williams profiled as close to Allen as anybody I have seen so far. I don’t see him being able to get to Josh’s level, but his ability to create outside of the script. His improvisation and playmaking will be rivaled by few. How can he perform within the confines of the play? I question that. He will be a guy that could have success early only to hit a funk once coordinators take away the basic things he wants to do.

If we do this, I hope we trade up again in the 2nd for Coleman or Legette or Polk. Pair the speedy small WR with the big bodied contested catch specialist. I don't care if it means we have barely any picks on day three and have to give up one of our 2nds next year. Get two physical studs that win in different ways and put them on the field with Josh Allen for the next 5+ years, and the rest will figure itself out.

Ya, I liked Coleman from the jump. Polk as we well and Legette is also coming on in my mind. Not a big fan of Worthy though. Hollywood Brown seems to be his comp. Brown isn't a bad player but I'm hopeful we can get more out of this pick especially if we trade up.

Nabers is the definition of explosiveness

He's nuts. His legs almost look like they're going so fast he loses control of his body at times. MHJ is elite, but Nabers is also a potential first year pro bowler. The separation tells you all you need to know. On his deep routes he's alone and it's not just speed. His route running tricks the DB in most cases and he's gone the second that happens.

Pick someone else or trade down…

So you would take him ?  I’m not knocking him as a player … but just think they might easier get by with a later pick at Safety …then a couple of other positions where that have some need

I was just curious what you would do is all. He's growing on me. I don't like even a mild reach at WR if we have the ability to add additional picks in round 2 and 3 trading back.

I think it was coincidence like I said.  AJE was BPA at a clear position of need, I don’t think they targeted him on just his arms, everyone knew he was our pick when we were on the clock there.

I never said the Bills drafted Groot and AJ on "Just arms". That notion is ridiculous. Arm lengths is one of the more coveted traits in pass rushers. Some teams trust analytics in this regard more than others. They clearly liked Groot and AJ. They both also happened to be two of the longest edge players in the drafts they were chosen. Kneeland also happens to have the same stand out length Groot and AJ had and he visited with the Bills. I don't even know what we are debating here. The hypothetical possibility of the Bills making this selection when neither of us has a clue? It's not like he's my horse in the race. If you don't think a chance exists the Bills pick him..... ok? I hope you're right.

I think you are over thinking AJE to be honest.  DE was a major need and he was the top DE in a weak draft to find edge help.  So weak, the top guy fell to us in the 2nd and he was the clear BPA and a pretty obvious choice for the Bills, so I think the arm connection here with Groot is more coincidence than a trait they covet to the point they would reach for a day 3 prospect at pick 28.

And no disrespect, but I have to disagree about it being "not uncommon" to be mocked in the first.  I have a hard time believing there are a lot of other mocks out there where he goes in the first given he is more often seen as a day 3 pick with potential to maybe go day 2.  Edge does fall off early, so I can see him maybe getting into the 2nd round for teams in dire need of help there.  But if I was to guess today, I think he more likely goes in the 3rd.

I admit, anything is possible, so won't say never...but I would honestly be stunned to see him go in the first as he would be a massive reach and no where near BPA at any pick in the first IMHO.

I can see the 2nd, edge drops off early, so a team desperate for help might reach.  But at 28 and in this Mock, there are higher graded Edge guys still available before he has Kneeland go.

But my comment on how bad this mock draft is was directed at the overall draft.  I just felt like its a crazy mock top to bottom and I think its one of the worse ones I have seen overall.

I posted the other notable mocks in the last thread. They're growing considerably the last few weeks.  I don't think I'm overthinking both AJE and Groot. They were both top 3 in arm length and wing span for the draft classes they belong to. Unless you think those weren't qualities we pursue and that was just random?

  7. I thought the Bills would consider him which started a string of hate which picked up well in this thread. It's not uncommon for him to be mocked in the late first at this point. As I said in my other post he has physical traits in his arm length and wingspan that we clearly covet given our selection of AJ and Groot.  It just wouldn't shock me if they feel he has a first round grade.  Hoping we don't see this as well and I'm a WMU grad.

  8. Will watch it again. Really great analysis. He liked the shot to Shakir vs going to Diggs on the highly debated 2nd down play. Called out a potential bad read by multiple players on the 1st down run play. I didn't realize how much real estate Allen likely had if that is a read option and he pulls the ball out. He might have scored. Also discussed the 3rd down, Shakir was open on the left side for what likely is a first down. Allen didn't look that way. He was drooling over Josh's playmaking ability. Riding Diggs hard. Called him out several times for lack of effort and finishing routes. You see it. Lazy routes, rounded, not at the distances needed.

Josh is one of the most insane playmakers in NFL history and his out of structure game is at a level few players have ever seen. Something to be said for boring, repeatable, drop back and throws. Brady was the king of this. Structured stuff is what Josh needs to keep improving on. I think Brady had him going in the right direction with that last year. Seems to do much better when we try and establish the run and work in the shorter designed passes as we did vs KC.

    Really worth the watch.

Pretty sure that most people who grew up throwing a football could throw at least a handful of catchable balls (under ideal conditions).  I think the real problem is pretty much everyone would have a 50+% INT rate and likely a bunch of fumbled snaps.  I'd like to think I complete more than 5 passes if it wasn't for every series ending in a turnover.  Probably 1-2 at the end of this disaster of a hypothetical game...  Maybe more than 2 if they go an ultra soft zone with 3rd stringers while up by 40.

For sure. Even in my early 40's I could throw up some jump balls. The WR is sure to win one or two. As Simon pointed out I think some hitches or slants could be possible. The catch here is if this really was a strategic thing with the goal to not allow you to complete a pass I'm pretty sure you would face some pretty wicked blitzes. I'm not sure any of us would get up after getting knocked down by a DL or blitzing LB.

Along similar lines, I wonder if people think they could gain 10 yards running in a full game or if they could catch a pass. I would say that would be way more difficult than just a single completed pass. Both running and catching would force you into the jungle and I don't know if any of us are surviving that.

Both are right. It is a small sample to draw conclusions from but with the NFL draft that is almost always the case. And I don’t think Beane veered off his board to select a player from a preferred school.

But @NewEra is right too. I think if they have several players graded similarly, they may be preferential to the players who played for a coach they trust. An ESPN article from 2014(!) outlines McDermott being a part of a “little circle” with Aranda and Diaz…

Since then McDermott has publicly said how much he respects Aranda

And Beane said in last year post day 2 press conference that he spent some time with Billy Napier (1:35 in)

So in addition to the drafting of players from those programs in the past, it is pretty on record that they have relationships with those people for better and worse.

I would rather have McConkey over Pearsall but either one would be nice. Kitchens seems right up our alley. Super underrated with that 40 but look at Poyer and Hyde. Not exactly burners.

Is Belichick too egotistical to do anything besides head Coach?

Don't want him, but pretty sure this knocked him down a peg. Having the level of success he had would go to most peoples heads. Life has a tendency to snap most out of it unless it's that deep in his bones which I doubt. He shoveled a decent amount of crap to get where he is.

It’s possible they can take him later right?
He will be there a bit

I hope. Lots of reports have him inching into the late first round right now. It's a risk in my opinion. Especially if the juicy WR's are largely off the board.

  13. They target arm length and wingspan at the position. Groot and AJ were in the top 3 DE's in that category, both in the high 80 and 90th percentile in that category. It wasn't by some accident.

Kneeland is this year and they already hosted him for a visit in Buffalo. So as much as I would also hate this pick I don't think it's very far fetched. We have shown it's a position we will invest heavily in. We have need. We have shown interest in Kneeland and his profile is similar to two players we drafted prior. Don't shoot the messenger.

Ladd McConkey.  Aside from the speed, quickness,  and route running,  he's also very good after the catch.

I like McConkey a lot. He really stepped up when Bowers went down. I think he can do a lot of things for us.
