I mean, the history of our game surrounds checking that Box. Bud Grant was a hell of a coach. But Christ, 50 years later people barely even remember Minnesota went to 4 Super Bowls in that era. You think anybody is going to remember this run unless that box is checked?

That's really not true as it relates to me. But people generalize. It's the internet.
-
Perhaps, but most of them would be pretty damn quiet for a long time (at least the next season). As somebody that defends this position a decent amount I wouldn't have much to stand on if he had a Super Bowl. Nor would I care to do so. I would be too damn happy at that point.

The only coaches in the Super Bowl era who are .600 or better and have not won a conference championship game are McD, Lafluer, and Marty. We can talk about injuries, and KC, and how reaching the playoffs every year will really help, but he's in historically rare company for regular season success vs post season ineptitude. That will have to change. Plenty of evidence to suggest it won't and plenty to suggest it should. Plenty of threads covering those topics as well. I wasn't wanting this to become one where it gets debated again. We know what it is. People seem to be ready to crown the man after this year and rightfully so if you can glean something from regular season success. I was curious if many still held the opinion that it's playoff success or bust and it seems to still be the case with a decent amount. In fact it really doesn't seem to have changed it all.

I'm with you. Everybody on here should be thankful for everything Sean has given us. Any disagreement is a sign of irrational nonsense and most likely an unholy upbringing. You think we aren't enjoying it?

I meant our talent level. How many of those guys could get as far as we have with Josh Allen at QB? Probably a lot. It's not like we have this incredibly high ceiling to aspire to reach unless your ceiling is built on division titles and consistency. I feel like our success is more based on Allen than McD but as I said that is a point that could be debated forever and I really don't want to take it down that path. Well, we have seven other ones available if this one isn't your thing

I bet naming the QB's looks worse

The way you talk it's almost as if Brady wasn't behind Belichick or Mahomes behind Reid. Is it a coincidence that that the best coaches of all time just happened to align with two of the best QB's of all time? We sort of have one of those guys as well right? How difficult was it to partner Tom with a new coach and grab a Super Bowl? Not very it would seem. Reids playoff record with Mahomes is 15-3, before Mahomes, 11-13. I'm not saying your post doesn't have a factual basis. But so much is not fully understood between the relationship of players, systems, and coaches, specifically at QB. Nobody on this forum is going to clear that up either. QB records the last 3 years with a 65 or better QBR (excluding Allen) are 119-43 73.5% in the regular season. We know great QB's are a massive advantage and Josh is probably a tick or two even higher than massive and great. Sean does an amazing job keeping this team grounded. Playing fundamental football. But I'm not going to pretend to know what that looks like without him. The cubbard isn't exactly bare and to think the ceiling is drastically lower than the divisional round just isn't accurate in my opinion. The purpose of the post was to gauge public opinion more than anything. It seems it's fairly lined up with where it has been. Not much has changed. Sean has done a great job this year and he will be the coach of the Bills for a very long time regardless. But we need to make some progress in the playoffs or this stuff will keep following him.

1. Would it be a good poll question? 2. Not really sure if it's a good poll question? 3. I appreciate the suggestion on poll questions 4. I'm cold

It would be hard to argue any team in NFL history will be more successful without winning the Super Bowl than those 90's teams. So in my view that success sort of hollows how successful our current run is. Can you possibly beat that team without winning a Super Bowl? Then you look at other times in this franchises history and it's actually rather easy to be bad. You have no expectations of anything when you're bad. In fact if anything your expectations are that you will be bad so even a little good is rather good. It's actually shockingly easy to enjoy bad teams as I'm sure many of us have during the various droughts in this teams history. Pursuing something you know you don't have is one thing. Such as when a team is bad and is trying to become a contender. At least you established you don't have it. Everything you're doing is in attempt to get it. Pursuing something you think you have when you really don't is actually pretty tormenting. Which is how McD detractors feel. Like we are stuck in the state of so good nothing will change and just not good enough for anything more. That we will spend what is likely the last franchise QB many of us could see on this coach, again, never getting that trophy. I don't think it's too complicated to see both perspectives. Both groups certainly love the team and want them to successful.

He's become a pretty likeable, father like character. What's been odd to me about this subject is it really seems as if his biggest supporters feel as though his detractors actually want him to fail. That is so silly to me. No Bills fan on the planet would want an opinion of a coach to be correct more than they want to win a Super Bowl. I REALLY want him to get it done because he's a very loyal and likeable person. Deserve is a fairly loaded word, but if anybody does, he does. But as I said, I promised I wouldn't let regular season success romance me away from my thoughts. We will see.....

I feel like prior to the season starting the general vibe around here could fit into four categories 1. Some posters discussed the risk of changing a HC 2. Some felt he would ultimately figure out his postseason issues 3. Some felt his regular season success was enough so far and if nothing else that should buy him more time 4. Some felt he never would figure it out in the postseason and it was a lost cause I was a #4 (go figure) and still remain in the last group. While thrilled at what we have done this year as I have hope I didn't expect to arrive at this season, nothing we did in the regular season would be able to change where I land in that grouping. We have just been too good in the regular season and that isn't where my concern is. With all that said, I get a sense that I'm a minority at this point. That based on this years performance McD has largely quieted group #4 and most posters have now shifted into 1, 2, or 3 or at least a combination of them. So I guess it's a two part question here... 1. Has the season so far resulted in you shifting from one of the groupings to another? 2. If we lose in the divisional round or earlier will that dramatically impact your perception of Sean and how this season has gone?

Not going to lie, she's looking pretty sexy in a few of those pics. I'm glad I don't have money because if I did I wouldn't have money.

Rog hit the justice button this morn -
I hate losing on pick sixes with under 2 minutes. One of the worst beats you can have. Been on both sides too many times. Even worse, that DPI doesn't get called they kick a FG and get the back door that way. Just a horrible beat for the Browns backers.

holy F

The swings on this line are just brutal. Looks like Cleveland will get the backdoor after what appeared to be a miracle cover by the Broncos.
-
That pick was for the cover, brutal. Only thing more bloody would be to go get the back door on a FG

Oh ya, a lot of issues but offense in a bottle. Watson was just awful.

McDermott’s Post Game speech deserves its own thread

Doesn't seem like a huge stretch -
I knew the OP was wrong. It's a great topic, but I blame OP for not breaking it down in ways a 3rd grader would understand. He's probably a closet Chiefs fan and serial puppy kicker.

OT: what did you think of the hit on Lawrence?
Mikie2times replied to Success's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yup and he WAS probably looking to put a little fear in him, but as I said, when the QB is sliding, it can create a weird angle and any contact in that spot can have your noggin bounce off the turf very hard. I really don't think he was trying to hurt him as it played out. Scare the crap out of him? Knock him around a little? Sure. Very bad end result.
