  1. Cook: '70s Steelers are guilty like Bonds Sunday, March 27, 2005 By Ron Cook, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette It's so easy to look at Barry Bonds as a fraud. We don't like him. We never liked him, going back to his first season with the Pirates in 1986. We don't want to believe he hit those 73 home runs legitimately or that he'll ever be the true home run king no matter how many more home runs he hits than Babe Ruth and Henry Aaron. It has to be the steroids. But it's a lot harder to come down on the Super Steelers. They were our heroes. They won four Super Bowls. They made us proud. It wasn't the steroids. It was all talent and hard work. That's our story and we're sticking to it. You know what? We're hypocritical as heck. Steelers guilty like Bonds
  2. BUFFALO, N.Y. -- A hearing to determine whether suspended heavyweight Joe Mesi is healthy enough to resume boxing has been tentatively set for April 18. Keith Kizer, Nevada's chief deputy attorney general, said Thursday the date was set after the Nevada State Athletic Commission received all of the requested medical records dealing with Mesi's head injury within the last week. All that's left is word from the Mesi camp whether that date works for them to attend the hearing in Las Vegas. Mesi (29-0) was the WBC's top-ranked contender before falling out of the rankings entirely in October. The suburban Buffalo native has been suspended indefinitely, pending a review of his medical records, since winning a unanimous decision over Vassiliy Jirov in Las Vegas in March 2004. Mesi hung on for the win, despite being knocked down three times in the final two rounds. He sustained a subdural hematoma -- bleeding on the brain. Any sign of bleeding could lead the Nevada commission to issue a permanent fighting ban, which would be enforced throughout the country. - really hate to hear this , wish Joe would move on with his life. ....... 3. Artist: Norman Blake Lyrics Song: You are My Sunshine Lyrics The other night dear, as I lay sleeping I dreamed I held you in my arms But when I awoke, dear, I was mistaken So I hung my head and I cried. You are my sunshine, my only sunshine You make me happy when skies are gray You'll never know dear, how much I love you Please don't take my sunshine away I'll always love you and make you happy, If you will only say the same. But if you leave me and love another, You'll regret it all some day: You are my sunshine, my only sunshine You make me happy when skies are gray You'll never know dear, how much I love you Please don't take my sunshine away You told me once, dear, you really loved me And no one else could come between. But not you've left me and love another; You have shattered all of my dreams: You are my sunshine, my only sunshine You make me happy when skies are gray You'll never know dear, how much I love you Please don't take my sunshine away In all my dreams, dear, you seem to leave me When I awake my poor heart pains. So when you come back and make me happy I'll forgive you dear, I'll take all the blame. You are my sunshine, my only sunshine You make me happy when skies are gray You'll never know dear, how much I love you Please don't take my sunshine away

  5. The fractured relationship between the NHL and NHL Players' Association continues to take a turn for the worse. TSN has learned the NHL has formally filed an ''unfair labor practice'' complaint with the National Labor Relations Board in the United States over the NHLPA's apparent policy that any NHLPA member who were to become a replacement player next season would have to re-pay the lockout ''stipend'' he is currently receiving from the union. This stipend or lockout benefit figure is estimated to be in the $10,000 a month range per player. Any NHLPA member is eligible to receive the benefit, but media reports have suggested players have been told they would be forced to give back any benefit monies if they became replacement players for the league next season. Individual NHL clubs received correspondence from the league today informing them of the unfair labor practice grievance that was filed with the NLRB earlier this week. Unfair Labor Practice
  6. Why would Ralph be the only person to vote against it?
  7. NFL owners yesterday offered another endorsement for the Jets' plans to build a West Side stadium, voting to award New York the 2010 Super Bowl. Only one catch: There has to be a stadium for the game to take place. Yesterday's 31-1 vote, with only Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson dissenting, comes on the heels of a unanimous vote from the league's Super Bowl committee on Tuesday. The owners are in Hawaii for their annual spring meetings. If the Jets fail to win the rights to the stadium project, the NFL will award the game to another city, although there is no timetable for any decision. Why would Ralph be the only one not to vote for it? New York Superbowl
  8. TERRIFIED Briton Mark Currie came within inches of being eaten by a Jaws monster. Tourist Mark, 32, was sure he was going to die as the huge Great White shark attacked a metal cage he was dangling in. The 18ft giant slammed into the cage, ripping a buoy keeping it afloat and buckling the mesh. Then it leaped through the top trying to get to Mark. Shark
  9. TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A swarm of bees invaded the field on Thursday and forced a game between the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks to be called after five innings. The bees literally chased Rockies pitcher Darren Oliver from the mound. He kept trying to go back on the mound, but the bees would go after him again. Finally, he left for good and let another pitcher complete the inning. "I love this game," Oliver said, "but I like myself a little bit more." Oliver said the bees apparently were attracted to the coconut oil in his hair gel. "It was kind of funny at first, but after awhile I started getting a little nervous and scared out there," he said. The Diamondbacks took the field in the sixth, but by then the bees had spread out all over the field, and play was not resumed. Arizona beat the Rockies 3-1 in five innings. Joe Garagiola Sr., attending the game with his son, Diamondbacks general manager Joe Garagiola Jr., said he had never seen anything like it. Bee Swarm "And I go back to 1942," the elder Garagiola said.
  10. TORONTO (CP) - All events surrounding the NHL entry draft slated for Ottawa in June will officially be cancelled sometime this week, a source told The Canadian Press. Sources indicate the announcement could come as early as Thursday. The NHL has said repeatedly it would not hold an entry draft unless it had a new collective bargaining agreement in place with the NHL Players' Association. The cancellation of draft-related events is likely needed because Ottawa-area hotels must have advance confirmation of rooms that would have been booked for hundreds of draft hopefuls and their families. An entry draft will eventually take place once a collective bargaining agreement is in place with the players' union. It would likely be done by conference call rather than at a staged event. -interesting in light of supposed next great player Sidney Crosby perhaps ending up a free agent. NHL Draft

  13. It took All-Star pitcher Roger Clemens 20 years to rack up 300 wins -- a feat for which his team rewarded him with a brand-new orange Hummer. On Wednesday, police say, it took thieves just a few minutes to make off with the hulking vehicle after Clemens' son drove it to school and left it unlocked. School district police issued a statewide all-points bulletin statewide asking people to keep an eye out for the Hummer, which was stolen from Memorial High School at about 8:30 a.m. "I talked with Roger about it a little," said Chuck Brawner, chief of the Spring Branch Independent School District police. "That Hummer was given to him by the New York Yankees for his 300th win." Rogers Hummer
  14. this is part of what was going through this young mans head via a website forum he frequented: "Weise participated in the forum in part because, unlike 'white nationalist' or 'white power' movements, the LNSG embraces all races as part of its vision of world nationalism. His statements on the site reflected a frustration with the populist politics and materialistic arrogance of modern society," the statement continued. In a July 13 post, NativeNazi expressed his concern that Native Americans had turned their backs on racial purity and were being weakened by "interracial mixing". He was particularly annoyed that young Native Americans were copying the culture of African Americans. "Where I live less than 1% of all the people on the Reservation can speak their own language, and among the youth wanting to be black has run ramped. We have kids my age killing each other over things as simple as a fight, and it's because of the rap influence. Wannabe-gangsters everywhere, I can't go 5 feet without hearing someone blasting some rap song over their speakers," he complained. He went on: "It's hard though, being a Native American National Socialist, people are so misinformed, ignorant, and close minded it makes your life a living hell." Shooting

  16. Travis Henry is through playing for the Buffalo Bills, intent to sit out as long as it takes the team to trade him. "I'm definitely not going back to Buffalo if that's what you want to hear," the running back told The Associated Press on Monday from his home in Orlando, Fla. "No minicamps. No training camp. No nothing. ... I packed my stuff and left. As soon as the season was over, I was out of there and I didn't have any plans of coming back." Henry, who started during his first three seasons in Buffalo, has one year left on his contract and is unwilling to spend another year as Willis McGahee's backup. The Bills granted Henry permission in January to speak to other teams about a potential trade. Of the teams that expressed interest, Henry said the Arizona Cardinals have offered to trade starting left tackle L.J. Shelton in a player-for-player deal. Henry doesn't understand why the Bills - in need of offensive line help - haven't accepted the offer. Henry added he's willing to play for Arizona, a team in need of a starting running back since Emmitt Smith's retirement last month. "The whole situation, it's really frustrating," Henry said. "I just want to move on with my life and my career." Bills spokesman Scott Berchtold declined comment. Cardinals officials were at the NFL owners meetings in Hawaii, and unavailable for comment. Bills president Tom Donahoe addressed the Henry trade issue in a question and answer session on the team's Web site last week, writing that he's seeking fair value in return for Henry. "At the present time, there is not enough interest to make a trade," Donahoe wrote. "And if things continue in that vein, we would expect to have Travis back again next year." Henry believes the Shelton trade would help both teams, considering the Bills lost three offensive linemen to free agency earlier this month, including starting left tackle Jonas Jennings, who has since signed with San Francisco. "They said they weren't just going to let me go. I understand that," Henry said. "But here's a win-win situation. ... Arizona has shown interest. They've shown they're ready to pull the trigger. And Donahoe is taking his poor little precious time for some reason." Henry had been the Bills starter since the team selected him in the second round of the 2001 draft out of Tennessee. He put together consecutive 1,300-yard seasons before losing the job to McGahee last October. Henry finished with 326 yards rushing last year and missed the final five games with torn ligaments in his right ankle. Shelton, a first-round pick in 1999, has started 77 games. Falling out of favor with Cardinals' first-year coach Dennis Green last season, Shelton had only nine starts and missed the final three games with a left knee injury. Shelton, who has the Cardinals permission to seek a trade, visited the Bills last month. He has four more years left on his contract that will pay him $3 million a season - very affordable for a Bills team that has little room left under the salary cap. What frustrates Henry is that the Bills knew this running back dispute could arise when they drafted McGahee. And Henry thought he was being a team player when he didn't reveal his frustrations after he was demoted last season. "It was tough for me being in the locker room last year," Henry said. "I didn't make a big deal out of everything that was happening. I didn't understand it, but I dealt with it." What bothers Henry even more is how the Bills granted Drew Bledsoe's request to be released last month after the starting quarterback was unwilling to accept a secondary role behind J.P. Losman. Bledsoe has since signed with Dallas. "He wasn't going to be a backup and I ain't going to be no backup," Henry said. "They shipped Drew out of there. I want to be shipped out of there, point blank." Also on Monday, the Bills re-signed backup running back Joe Burns. Mostly used on special teams, Burns had 20 carries for 73 yards last season.

  18. "again three years" whats the problem. It would seem he chose very quickly to find a new relationship , who knows how close to the actual unfortunate course of events that resulted in Terri's situation. At issue here is , does this man have a conflict of interest in deciding what is right for Terri, I submit to you he does. based on Michaels living situation from outset of incident very quickly courts would have found this to be true and the parents would have been named as guardians. (my opinion) A living will would resolve who is the Guardian, but still if this named Guardian came into conflict of interest the law and courts need resolve this.
  19. michael shciavo started living with this other women 10 years ago, which would put start of relationship at least at 1994 , and likely earlier as I would imagine they didnt just instantly decide to live together.....
  20. After an unusual and emotional Sunday night debate, the House passed legislation early Monday morning aimed at prolonging the life of Terri Schiavo, whose feeding tube was removed Friday under court order. The Senate unanimously passed its version of the legislation earlier Sunday. The bill ordered a federal court to review the case of the Florida woman, who doctors have said is brain-damaged. Congress has no authority to order the feeding tube re-inserted, but the federal court could choose to do so while it reviews the case. Bill Passed
