DENVER (AP) - A woman has died after getting punched in the head over the weekend during a Golden Gloves bout in Colorado. Becky Zerlentes was struck on the left temple and knocked unconscious in a match late Saturday. She died a few hours later. The coroner's preliminary report says the cause of death was blunt force trauma. Zerlentes was 34, married and taught at a community college. She had a six-and-four record as a fighter. Heather Schmitz, the woman who threw the fatal punch, said in an interview before Zerlentes died that she felt horrible. USA Boxing is the sanctioning body for amateur boxing. No actually the Ontario has much more business friendly tax systems than other parts of Canada. There is a substantial deduction teams receive for player salaries for instance. Notice how leafs are one of the most profitable teams in hockey in spite of same problems in terms of dollar value compared ot U.S. Now that Rogers owns the Skydome, they are able to earn monies in advertising they were not able to previously and control all aspects of marketing. The Jays main problem for a number of years was having a ownership that was in flux and wanted out, They now have a owner who will keep the team and does know how to make money. Rogers has put $240 million into pot for management to use and they are a young and building team, and without injuries to young prospects and core players, two years they will be a viable wild card team and a strong team soon enough. Remember Jays in mid eighties through ninties had a decade of huge success both at the box office and on the field. This same cycle will come around again. The money is there, not to the extent they can outspend everyone like Yankees and Sox when they want a player, but they will have enough to fill needs. -

Seattle's Damian Moss and Ryan Christianson were among 38 players suspended Monday for violating baseball's minor league steroids policy, a group that included eight players from the Mariners' organization. "We're obviously very disappointed and not happy about it at all," Seattle general manager Bill Bavasi said after the Mariners beat Minnesota 5-1. "On the other side of the coin, we're like everybody else. We want this cleaned up." Oakland's David Castillo was suspended for 60 games, the penalty for a third violation. All the others were suspended for 15 games, the ban given to first offenders. "I think you'll see more announcements," Bavasi said. "That's a guess on my part. They tested, they got results. I think this is going to go on through the year and hopefully the numbers are going to drop." Seven of the 38 positives came from the Chicago Cubs organization, five each from the Los Angeles Angels, Oakland and Texas, and four from San Diego. There were two from Colorado, and one each from St. Louis and the Chicago White Sox. tested positive

The suspension begins Monday when Tampa Bay opens its season against Toronto, the commissioner's office said Sunday. Under the new policy that took effect last month, steroids and other performance-enchancing substances are the only drugs to draw a 10-day suspension. Baseball officials and the players' union agreed they would not disclose the exact substance for which a player tests positive. Suspension -

Yes for most baseball fans the first game of the season is most special , for each and every team in the league . I will admit to every game of the season being most special as I do most enjoy baseball. I will not apologize for that or do I need to. -

Toronto are about two years off, they have a good group of prospects ready to emerge and their owner has given management $240 million to spend on team over the next three seasons. This pales compared to Yankees and some others but smartly spent it can fill the needs. Both Baltimore and Toronto will be improved enough they will not be the easy wins they were last year and its my opinion both will win enough games against both Boston and New York that one will not be playoff team..... -

Actually Clements I was going to rag on him about that as well but taking at look at Jason's career, one can see his early carrer reflecting the sited numbers and the better numbers are during thought to be juiced period. Mind you there are a couple of years he excelled without as well...... I think what is a valid hope is Jason proving he did not need steroids to reach these levels , a point which would be a large positive to young people watching. Here are his numbers in career they speak for themselves Jason Giambi -

“The ten teeth I have got left are OK. But in another month or two I’m going to need a dentist. “It would be nice for somebody to take them out properly for me.” She added: “The only way to get rid of the pain from my teeth was to pull out the infected ones. “I had a few pints of lager then screwed up my face, put the pliers against the tooth and yanked. It’s lucky I like milk pudding and mashed potato. “My husband can’t stand to watch. But he’s lucky — he had all his teeth pulled out 30 years ago and got a set of false teeth for about a fiver. talks are going to resume Monday _(CP) - The NHL and NHL Players' Association will resume labour talks Monday at an undisclosed location, sources have told The Canadian Press. The two sides haven't met since March 17 in New York, when the NHLPA was presented two proposals by the NHL, the first being a team-by-team $37.5-million US salary cap deal that did not have a fixed link between player costs and league revenues - a term called linkage. The second offer was based on linkage, with player costs to take up no more than 54 per cent of league revenues. The union wants no part of linkage, not wanting to tie players' salaries to a business that has suffered immeasurable damage with an entire season cancelled. The NHL gave the union an April 8 deadline to negotiate on the "de-linked" proposal, or else it will be pulled off the table and only the second proposal will remain. If a new deal isn't reached in the very near future, the NHL will likely go ahead with plans to open shop using replacement players in the fall. That subject will be on the table when owners gather again for a board of governors meeting April 20 in New York. Talks resume Monday

The NHL has developed two prototypes for bigger nets that will be shown to GMs at their upcoming meetings in Detroit, according to a report on The Hockey News website. According to the report, NHL senior vice-president Colin Campbell told The Hockey News the league will ask GMs to consider two super-sized net designs at their meetings scheduled for April 8-9. The first new design features goalposts that curve outwards to provide shooters with a larger target. The posts remain six feet apart at the base. The second new design simply adds two inches in height and width to the traditional rectangle goal. Nets

Former PGA champion Bob Tway set a dubious record Monday by hitting four balls into the water and making a 12 on the par-3 17th island green at The Players Championship golf tournament. The previous record was an 11 by Robert Gamez in 1990. Tway was at 7 under par, only four shots off the lead, when he came to the 17th hole with gusts up to 40 kilometres blowing from left to right. His first shot went long and into the water. He went to the drop area, 77 yards from the hole, and again went over the green. His next two shots came up short, and he finally hit the back side of the green, 40 feet away. He three-putted for a 12. Tway was tied for 10th when he stepped on the tee. But when he left the green, he was tied for 72nd at 2 over par. The 17th hole on the TPC at Sawgrass is perhaps the most difficult in golf, with an island green that sits about 140 yards from the tee. Officials say an estimated 150,000 balls are hit into the water each year by paying customers. tough hole
