  2. its that dam Terry Donahoe guy again, According to a source in Bills management, Bledsoe was informed last week that he was out as the starting quarterback for 2005. General manager Terry Donahoe told Bledsoe that J.P. Losman, who will enter his second season in the fall, would be the No. 1 quarterback. Bledsoe was offered the opportunity to remain with the team as a backup, which would have meant forgoing a $1 million bonus in March and cutting his salary from $3.3 million to about $1.5 million. Bledsoe refused the request, saying he wanted to be a starter. He asked the Bills to cut him soon and allow him to become a free agent. The Bills said they would honor his request and probably release him in the next two weeks. Apparently the last straw for Bills management was the final regular-season game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, a game the Bills needed to win to make the playoffs. Going against Steelers backups for most of the day, Bledsoe turned in an uninspired performance (16 for 30, 189 yards, 1 INT) and was sacked three times. On one of the sacks Bledsoe was blind-sided before fumbling the ball, which was returned for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Drew is gone
  3. The No. 1 issue that has plagued the NHL lockout went out the window Monday night when the NHL Players' Association offered a deal that included a $52-million US salary cap. The surprising move was made by NHLPA senior director Ted Saskin during his secret meeting with NHL executive vice-president Bill Daly in Niagara Falls, N.Y. Daly began the process Monday by offering a $40-million salary cap without ''linkage'' - a fixed link between player costs and league revenues, which has long been the centrepiece of the NHL's bid for cost certainty. The union counter-offered with the $52-million team-by-team salary cap, which was rejected by the NHL. The players' proposal also featured more aggressive payroll tax thresholds and tax rates on team payrolls. ''It is indeed unfortunate that with the major steps taken by both sides today we were unable to build enough momentum to reach an agreement,'' Saskin said in a statement released early Tuesday morning. The union's offer also included the 24 per cent salary rollback on all existing contracts. players offer rejected

  6. I have had gout for about twenty five years. The first incident it felt like somehow I had broken my foot, it ended swollen about double its size. I found out that gout is caused by a build up of uriac acid which the liver cannot break down which will settle in a joint , the most common being a persons big toe. The uriac crystalizes which and joint moves causes a abrasion and swelling , consequenting the extreme pain. My doctor prescribed a drug called allopurinol which is the most common one used for gout, he told me I would need take this the rest of my life. He told me that how it works is after the first incident of gout , it may not be another five years until another incident , but the incidents will increase over time. I took the allopurinol for awhile , stopped eating so many things with high amounts of salt and lost some weight for me this resolved the problem , I get attacks these days often when I am under stress. I would rather not take any more medication that absolutely necessary so these days I watch my weight , and salty foods. The easiest resolution is to take the know remedy allopurinol .
  7. Initially a source said Bettman's announcement cancelling the season was set for Tuesday, but it was changed to Wednesday. It appears the reason was an unannounced meeting Monday between Bill Daly and Ted Saskin, the lead negotiators for the NHL and the NHLPA, a session confirmed by another source. Sportsnet has learned the meeting is being held in Buffalo, N.Y. It appears that meeting did not solve anything, although it was still ongoing as of 6:45 p.m. EST I wonder where in Buffalo would they meet? Meeting In Buffalo

  12. A prize winning track athlete who competed in women's events was actually a man, a court in Zimbabwe has been told. Samukaliso Sithole, who competed in domestic and regional competitions, faced charges of crimen injuria, or psychological offense, in the Zimbabwean city of Bulawayo, the state-run Herald newspaper reported Wednesday. Prosecutors alleged Sithole offended the dignity and sexuality of a woman who befriended him, confided in him and felt comfortable being naked around him, all the while believing him to be a woman, the newspaper said. Sithole was identified as a man to the complainant by an acquaintance, as he and a group of women were preparing to travel by train to a track meet in Bulawayo, the court heard Tuesday. Sithole tried to sprint away from the train station but was caught. Police then supervised a medical examination. Sithole told the court he was born congenitally deformed. A tribal healer, known in the West as a witchdoctor, gave him "female status" but the spell didn't work properly because his family didn't pay the healer's full fee, Sithole said. He will reappear in court on March 3 and faces a fine if convicted. The Herald said the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe was investigating the case and Sithole would likely be stripped of his titles and prize money. The Sithole competed in women's triple jump, javelin, shot-put and running events, and brought home Zimbabwe's only gold medal from the Southern Region Athletics Championships in neighboring Botswana last June. 15. WalMart Store Closings Spread Written by Morgan Truce All stores locked up their doors before they even had a chance to have a 'Going Out Of Business Sale!' TORONTO (AP) A loud noise was heard in Jonquiere, Quebec as the door slammed shut at the local WalMart store. The worldwide retailing giant decided to close the doors to its store rather than give in to demands to unionize the huge discount store. The sound echoed throughout the region causing other WalMart stores to close. One by one, WalMart closed down operations at each store as the news of the Jonquiere closing spread. Fearful of having to pay workers a decent living wage, the corporate giant instead chose to quit doing business rather than start dealing with labor unions. As news of the WalMart stores closing spread across Canada, ordinary people reacted by throwing block parties complete with marching bands, with food provided by little mom and pop stores anxious to once again start serving their communities. Within two hours, 86 WalMart stores had closed. The ripple effect of the WalMart closings hit the Upper Peninsula of Michigan by noontime and loud cheering could be heard all across the state. The closest a U.S. union has ever come to winning a battle with WalMart was in 2000, at a store in Jacksonville, Texas. In that store, 11 workers -- all members of the store's meatpacking department -- voted to join and be represented by the UFCW. That effort failed when WalMart eliminated the job of meat cutter companywide, and moved away from in-store meat cutting to stocking only pre-wrapped meat. But this time, WalMart could not stem the tide. Since there was no way they could eliminate all the minimum wage jobs in their stores, they had to just lock the doors and go out of business. All across the mid-west and then extending out to the east, south, and west the store closings continued throughout the day. As each store closed, the celebrations grew and grew. In a few instances, local police had to be called in to keep the peace, but for the most part, Americans all across the land were very happy to see the horrible stores finally closing down. There were a few instances of looting in the WalMart stores around Camden, New Jersey, but other than that things remained calm. By midday, all trading in WalMart stock was halted in New York. In world developments, thousands of sweatshops in Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Indonesia, Thailand, and Costa Rico closed up shop. Worst hit was China where thousands of factories that produced low quality merchandise for WalMart were closed and the workers were sent back to the fields. As the sun set on the west coast, the last Walmart store locked its doors. Already many bankers and small businessmen made arrangements to re-open the thousands and thousands of small businesses so that local shoppers would be able to buy the things they needed. There was talk among all the old line shoe manufacturers of re-starting American shoe making and re-introducing the American public to high quality genuine all-leather shoes. Newspapers across the land reported a sudden and steep rise in help wanted ads offering jobs with decent living wages. On Main Streets all across the land, once boarded up storefronts began springing back to life as five and dime stores, shoe stores, clothing stores, and drug stores moved merchandise back in. Steady streams of shoppers flowed into the once-desolate downtown areas again. Neighbors bumped into one another on the street, smiling and agreeing to have cups of coffee at the luncheonette. Town council meetings were being held to discuss what to do with the abandoned WalMart properties. Many citizens suggested that the empty WalMart stores be burned to the ground, the parking lots ripped up, and that it all be replaced by trees and playgrounds. At the Vatican, Pope John Paul II got out of his bed to give his blessing to the WalMart store closings. “This is the best news since the end of communism!” Tomorrow will be an interesting day on Wall Street as markets re-open and the world reacts to the closing of what was once the world’s largest retail operation.
  16. I did not see that my error , but seeing so many comment on hockey management union busting, sure would be curious how folks on this side of board re act to this story
  17. Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said Wednesday it will close a Canadian store whose workers are on the verge of becoming the first ever to win a union contract from the world's biggest retailer. Wal-Mart said it was shuttering the store in Jonquiere, Quebec, in response to unreasonable demands from union negotiators, which would make it impossible for the store to sustain its business. The United Food & Commercial Workers Canada last week asked Quebec labor officials to appoint a mediator, saying that negotiations had reached an impasse. "We were hoping it wouldn't come to this," said Andrew Pelletier, a spokesman for Wal-Mart Canada. "Despite nine days of meetings over three months, we've been unable to reach an agreement with the union that in our view will allow the store to operate efficiently and profitably." Pelletier said the store will close in May. The retailer had first discussed closing the Jonquiere store last October, saying that the store was losing money. A spokesman for the UFCW said Wednesday the union had not yet seen the retailer's statement, and that leaders were traveling and not immediately available for comment. Some employees at the store said they think the store was closing because of their agreement to join the union and several cried as they left the store. They told Radio-Canada TV that an announcement had been made and they were not allowed to ask questions. The closest a U.S. union has ever come to winning a battle with Wal-Mart was in 2000, at a store in Jacksonville, Texas. In that store, 11 workers -- all members of the store's meatpacking department -- voted to join and be represented by the UFCW. 18. Jason Giambi is going to hold a news conference this afternoon the intent being to head off the media circus at spring training by facing media now. With all that has come out of Balco investigation his steroid use and his subsequent health problems, how do you feel about him coming to spring training and playing baseball again and trying proove he can do it clean. His former coaches in Oakland say Giambi is a very sensitive guy that cares very much what people think of him and New York will eat him alive. Its going to be a very tall order for Giambi to have success and show he can succeed without steroids . He is going to get ragged on big time where ever he goes, particularly if he starts poorly. The Boo's will just rain down. I dont imagine a person could be more down than he, not that anyones should feel sorry for him, in many ways he the face of everything that is wrong with sport. He now has a chance to make it right and proove to all it can be done without the juice, I think in the end this is a good thing. Would you rather they banned such people or give them chance to make it right. I hope he makes back the right way. Jason Giambi
  19. Following years of speculation and denial about their relationship, Clarence House announced this morning that the Prince of Wales will marry his lover Camilla Parker Bowles. Details will be released shortly by the Prince's household, but early reports suggest that the couple will marry on April 6 at Windsor Castle. The nation will be watching closely for reaction from Prince Charles's sons, Prince William, 22, and Prince Harry, 20. Mrs Parker Bowles has two children by former husband Andrew Parker Bowles, Tom, 30, and Laura, 26. The question of whether Prince Charles, as heir to the throne, could marry his divorced companion has caused controversy within the Anglican church. The Prince will become head of the church on becoming king. Charles and Camilla
