When an 11-year-old boy held a pocketknife to the throat of an unsuspecting student yesterday morning on his school bus, he demanded that the driver stop. She did, but the outcome was not what he and his three friends were hoping for. Apparently, they wanted the 52-year-old driver to get off the bus, and they planned on driving it to Nevada. Never mind that none of them was tall enough to reach the gas pedals and see out the windshield at the same time. After Janet McQuown stopped the bus along Pine Tree Church Road in Oliver, Jefferson County, she told the young boy to give her the knife, which had a 3- to 4-inch blade. After she asked a few times, he handed the weapon to her and the incident was over. hyjack

NEW YORK -- Even in the dead of winter, Alex Rodriguez and Curt Schilling are still going at it. "I just hope he continues to talk about me and my teammates," the New York Yankees' third baseman said Friday. "It's going to give us great motivation to beat him up in the future." Schilling called it a "bush-league play" after Rodriguez was called out for interference in Game 6 of the AL Championship Series last October. A-Rod, trying to beat out an infield dribbler, slapped the ball away from pitcher Bronson Arroyo near first base. "To me it was just odd, because I mean we beat him a couple of times during the year and he was crying on the bench," Rodriguez said of Schilling. "And then he lost Game 1 and he wouldn't talk or anything. And obviously, he wins Game 6 and then he's still talking 'til today. So it's just something we as players have been accustomed to. But it's something I'm not worried about." ( pitchers and catchers is not that far away, a nice thought on a cold night) A-Rod and Schilling

NEW YORK (AP) - Maurice Clarett and Mike Williams can rest easy. They're on the list. Clarett and Williams were among 49 underclassmen granted early entry into the NFL draft on Wednesday. Players needed to file paperwork with the league by Jan. 15 and had until Wednesday to remove their names from consideration. - Seems clear Mike Williams will generate a great deal of interest, will be interesting to see what level of interest Maurice Clarett will get given his problems. Williams likely a first round pick , Clarett , could be interesting high risk pick for a team.... Clarett and Williams

Just in jury has award a additional $75 million in Punitive Damages makes the total $135 million , $60 million in compensatory damages , $75 Million in punitive for the total $135. "We're ecstatic," said David Mazie, the Vernis' attorney. "I think it sends an appropriate message, and hopefully this will make a difference at arenas across the country." A lawyer for Aramark did not immediately return a message from The Associated Press on Wednesday. But Brian Harris suggested during the trial that the vendors were not irresponsible when they sold Lanzaro beer because he is an admitted alcoholic and either did not show signs of intoxication or was able to fool the servers. $135 million drunk -
Perhaps rumours that Mike Piazza does not like women will be over, he is going to marry playmate Alicia Rickter. A few years back he had to have news conference to deny he was gay. Mike Piazza

A jury awarded $60 million US Tuesday to the family of a girl paralysed in a car wreck caused by a drunken football fan. Ronald and Fazila Verni were headed home from a pumpkin-picking trip in 1999 with their two-year-old daughter, Antonia, when their car was hit by a truck driven by Daniel Lanzaro, 34. Antonia was paralysed from the neck down. Lanzaro, whose blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit, is serving a five-year prison term for vehicular assault. The family sued Aramark, the Giants Stadium concessionaire, claiming vendors sold beers to Lanzaro even though he was clearly drunk and that Aramark fostered an atmosphere in which intoxicated patrons were served. Aramark lawyer Keith Harris did not immediately return a message Tuesday seeking comment. During his closing statement, he told jurors it was Lanzaro's decision to drive drunk that caused the crash. 60 million just in jury has award a additional $75 million in Punitive Damages makes the total $135 million , $60 million in compensatory damages , $75 Million in punitive for the total $135. A parent has been charged after the Jr. Canadiens minor atom coach was choked to the point of blacking out during the first period of a game at Chesswood Arenas yesterday afternoon. Sgt. David Godfrey of 32 Division confirmed to the Star the father was at the station last night where he was being held until a court appearance this morning on a charge of choking. "I am sick of this stuff," said Greater Toronto Hockey League president John Gardner. "I was told by the referee that he has never seen anything quite like this. "In the first period, a (parent) reached over the glass partition and grabbed the coach by the neck hard enough that the coach was forced down on his knees trying to get his breath. After they got this guy off him and he got his breath, he didn't want to upset the (9-year-old) boys so he went on with the game. I'm waiting for a written report from the referee and if it is as has been reported there will be a definite arena ban (for the father)." Mark Teskey, like many minor hockey coaches, had a policy that if a player missed a practice he would sit out for a couple of shifts during the game. The parent reportedly had disagreed with that rule. Father Chokes Coach

Serves me right for getting involved in other teams fans feelings. End up debating this and forgetting to put lid on roast and have the women folk all angry at me. I also do not get as involved as in younger days, but understand the young that do, and will admit at times wonder if I will ever see my team win, just once and to remembering those gone who didnt. It would do the Buffalo community such a world of good to have that special day like seemingly everyone else....
-
The quote comes from a Jets fan, who says he been a fan for forty years,it does not come from Millbank...... I am over 60 and have been Bills fans since the day they started..... and yes I identify with a fan who asks when is his team going to win, I have had friends come and go and will never see that day, folks that have that special time are most privileged...
-
we are taking this completely literal , the Jets won the Super Bowl 35 years ago, so if this person is saying he was a fan since birth, it means he would be five years old when they won, I suppose people are all different and are able to remember events earlier than others, I hardly think a five year old person was going wild as Joe Willy called his shot......
-
Dont you think that it is very likely this fan feels the same way, guy was simply a fan expressing his hurt after a game that fans the nation over have done at some point in time hardly is he a loser , good for you , you thought back to the wide right and my guess is it took awhile for that disappointment to subside, frankly the only folks who are losers would be those who follow a team all year round and for many years and not feel disappointed after such a game. As stated sometimes it hurts like hell to be fan. And yes in awhile you do remember the great plays, the days together with friends , meeting new people, so many positives, being a fan is much more than ones team winning, but it sure does hurt when they come close, even a Jet fan. Not to argue but hardly was this Jet fan a loser, if fact as you admitted you hurt as well after such disappointments.
-
so you felt absolutely great after the Bills lost to the Steelers, arent you a real hero....
-
The jets won the Super bowl in 1969 , so I suppose it all depends how early a person is able to perceive things and be a fan. Much like the generations of Bills fans who were either to young or were not around when Bills won afl championships...... Its reasonable enough to say most people forty and under would not remember.

Oh Lord.....why?? I've been a loyal fan...I'm a good person.... (better than them damn Pats fans), why, why?? we were so close, so close....why?? Will our time ever come??? I've followed this team for almost 40 years..... will it come? will it happen?? Is there a reason why we can't do it??? Why Oh Lord??? It hurts so bad!!! --- This post came from the Jets board a Jets fan feeling so bad after yesterdays game and wondering why, word for word this is exactly what I am sure so many Bills fans were feeling after Steeler game , I do feel for folks who follow their team of choice faithfully , following sports and games can be a great deal of fun, but sometimes they flat out hurt......
