Turnovers are volatile, everyone knows that. Ignore that our defense was worse than bad, at key moments LY- Rams, Chiefs, Ravens, etc. and all playoff losses have been bc we can't stop our opponent. Then look at the actual players who got snaps: Von, Rasul, Phillips, Jefferson, Elam, etc Our defensive talent, speed has been downright awful. I guess we need another WR though, so we can push our 2nd round pick from LY to #4 on the depth chart....yep, makes sense.
-
Bills have a talented offense too... Why do people ignore we just set records internally, one of highest scoring offenses (better than Eagles), and Josh won MVP? It's like we just finished 20th or worse as an offense --- oh wait that was our defense
-
I can see that line of thought, but Beane likely sees 2 key players that he has high hopes for-Kincaid and Keon. Then add in Palmer, who they just locked up (then Shakir). Competition/stacking talent is a good thing, but i think it comes down to he feels that talent gap is wider at DL and we're much more vet heavy there. I think we could see the opposite next year, but ideally we find ourselves in the situation that Palmer transitions in nicely and Kincaid/Keon take big steps forward. Then I think we can truly start to stack talent, without focusing on need. Good comments, hopefully Beane hit the DL picks-- if not, then I think he needs to figure out scouting deficiencies.

So....with the guys you just mentioned, we passed on ALL of them, multiple times. I'm sorry, but what do you know about these guys that Beane and his scouts don't? So, just because we didn't draft a 3rd/4th round WR, who likely would be sitting at WR5 on the depth chart...thats a gripe? I'm sorry, but id you're trusting NFL media analysts draft board grades over Beane, then it just shows you don't trust BB. Not saying BB is always right, but in this case, those WRs were passed over and Beane thinks he has better options in-house/possibly Elijah Moore or FA signing for depth.

Is there an NFL team with a weaker WR group than the Bills?

That's the most overblown/misused comment around here. So much more that factors into it. I'll just leave it at that, hoping your view isn't as simplistic that you stated above -

Stats don't tell the full story. Chargers were a balanced offense, Browns played from behind and needed to throw more. Moore caught a TON of short passes, good for him. Palmer was used all over the field and is thr closest thing we have to a true outside receiver. Moore is moved around, but is a shifty slot- he'd be someone I'd like "moore" if we didn't have Samuel. Not saying it would be a bad signing. He's an upgrade on our current WR5/depth, I'd trust him as a backup slot. He also brings return ability. I'm for the signing, just making the point he isnt near Palmer and is a strict depth/return type signing. There's a reason we went after Palmer and gave him a very good contract. Again, stats don't tell the story. Robert Foster also put up stats - on a horribly talent deficient WR room.. some guys get stats because someone has to. Moore isn't Foster, but he's not matching the targets if he comes here. -
No disagreement. But where we are as a franchise/players on this team, the guys available at our 1st 2 picks were not moving the needle for team success- we need defensive talent. People act like we have premier talent on defense, or McD should be able to work magic with the likes of : a washed Von, Phillips, Jefferson, Rasul, Elam--- all guys with decent snaps in AfCCG. The key is: Josh+top tier OL+strong stable of RBs+solid WRs with YAC = a very successful formula for offensive success. Just like on defense, DL pressure+strong CB play= more turnovers, less points, more opportunities for Josh/offense each game. Beane has missed horribly on some DL+Cb draft picks and FA signings. But going back to the well is the right move. If we had a really good/non elite QB (like Philly IMO), then we'd be having a different conversation. We just finished with historical offense production, one of the best offenses (scoring) in entire NFL...and we have several young guys ready to take the next step + Palmer, which we need someone like Kincaid to make a big step like Khalil

Eagles did what LY, that led to a SB season? I'll give a hint...Buffalo followed suit stocking up defense.

My point is "right now"...investing in a 600 yard type guy, does what? Palmer is much better than Moore, so yeah I really like the signing -

It is...but let's not act like signing Moore is some savior--- a 600 yard receiver isn't moving the needle much. Beane saying we're set at WR, is still true. Looking to improve on WR4/5 is smart, but in no way shape or form changes who we are as a team. -
That's the point...who gives a F if the production is RB/TE or Wrs. Who cares, as long as we score. You know, Palmer is a better WR than Mack or an aging Coop. Shakir isn't at his ceiling. Kincaid and Coleman have a TON of untapped potential, young. Samuel was injured practically all LY and battling through. Maybe we will get unlucky with the injury bug again, or Kincaid/Coleman won't improve. My money is on Kincaid turning into a stud this year. Let's not act like we haven't invested in young talent - Shakir, Palmer, Kincaid, Keon, Samuel, our 3 RBs, Knox--- 1 football to go around as Beane said. When you have a top tier OL and Josh, that group listed above is certainly enough to replicate or come close to LYs performance. Maybe we bring in another WR, like Moore, but a 600 yard receiver isn't what is holding this team back.
-
Because Beane is tired of hearing the same sh*t, from clueless low level radio hosts in Buffalo. Honestly, anyone with 2 eyes and any football background, would side with Beane that our defense is the issue. Here are key pieces of our defense, in AFCCG: Von, Quan, Phillips, Jefferson, Smoot, Rasul, Elam Let's see what any of those guys contribute to a team next year --- if they even sign. This fanbase is so enamored with the Bengals WR duo, that they're blinded by how well this offense performed. If you invest in a top tier OL and solid pieces to go with a MVP QB, good things will happen. It's not rocket science, Beane has crushed signings/draft at OL recently. I'm glad he went off, fans and media alike need a wake up call

Buffalo Bills Consensus Draft Grades
MasterStrategist replied to Victory Formation's topic in The Stadium Wall
I mean we did draft Ulofoshio last year. Another 5th rounder...more athletic than Paul. Takes 1 season plus as a LB in our system to "play fast", not think and naturally be in position. Took Bernard, Dorian, etc. So Bernard, Milano, Dorian, Ulofoshio, Joe Andreesen. I disagree with Eddie O, which is really Eddie U 😄. I don't see Paul stepping into that LB4 role better than Ulofoshio this year. Not concerned about LB depth right now -
Re: Your last paragraph....you might wanna remind yourself we have 2 DL serving suspensions to start the season I'd be shocked if we hit on a DROY. Hairston, would be my guess if I had to pick someone- a couple pick 6s and a Treyvon Diggs type rookie year might do it

Buffalo Bills Consensus Draft Grades
MasterStrategist replied to Victory Formation's topic in The Stadium Wall
Grades are irrelevant, and just flat out bias at this point. Nobody knows who will be a draft day steal, homerun pick, etc-- so many variables. Better vote/question, should be based on draft strategy and/or position target for each round, based on who was available- giving more weight to more premium picks. I loved the strategy, and also felt the quality of players at those positions aligned well with exactly what we needed. So from that perspective, I give Beane an "A" for the vision and execution. -
I wanted Royals too. But at the end of day, whoever we bring in is Wr5. Our DL picks will be making more of a difference on gameday, then a few fade patters and hoping 1 or so connect.
-
Yeah that was much much lower on the priority list. Again, watch this team struggle on defense and tell me we should be prioritizing WR any higher
-
Our OL makes the whole thing work, outside of Josh of course. You can have a VERY productive offense, when your OL is top 5ish and a MVP QB. I mean see Chiefs for past 2 years. Defense is what wins championships, has been that way for a long time. Remind me of the last "shoot out" SB? Plus outside Josh. Cook, OL. Shakir is a very good slot WR. Add in Palmer. Then complementary players. Unless we're giving up on Kincaid and Coleman already, we need to count on them to make a jump in production. That's essentially a 1st and 2nd rounder--- that's our investment that we need to see pay off. Time to invest more will come, if they don't elevate their game soon. Complete confidence in both guys
-
Thought you were our "truck guy"/draft expert..... Kidding, appreciated all you and @gonzo1105 summarized/time invested into this--- huge thanks!
-
It's what this team needed. Unless you play madden for a living --- I mean our offense was just so horrible LY: record breaking season and all, Josh won MVP, etc---- yep, offense is the problem. Everyone open eyes and look at how poorly our defense played: DL: Quan was washed. Forced to bring in Phillips and Jefferson for key reserve roles CB: the CBs who saw the most snaps in our AFCCG loss --- Rasul and Elam? Lol I mean it was obvious these were areas we needed to upgrade- then we watch the Eagles totally rattle Mahomes and that offense, like never seen before. And it was clear as day what we needed to do. Eagles didn't win the SB bc of offense, it was that defense that won it and a solid performance by Hurts. Copy cat league, we have the pieces on offense not defense
-
Didn't Josh just win his 1st MVP, unde that coach and scheme? This was our first year, since drafting Josh, of being more balanced. Yet he wins MVP and we set team records in points....and somehow you complain? Lol this place is comical with McD hate
-
Not even sure what this means. Let's not overthink this.... 1. Sanders is a QB2 prospect, with issues not being "on time" with reads, drifting, taking sacks. Basically a backyard QB. with limited arm strenght and athletic mobility. 2. Being drafted into a backup role, attitude/commitment/taking coaching is more valuable than some mal content 3. Deion circus is real. And so are the attitude issues that came across from Shadeur None of thse point to a prospect who is worth drafting early. Literally, he's put himself in no man's land with his pre draft process, combined with his dad's presence. No conspiracy, it's basic evaluation of the situation by each team individually (there is no collusion to keep him from being drafted). He was way overblown by media as a prospect. Coupled with issues leading up to draft, it's a 4th - 6th round pick.
-
Yeah it's philosophy. I'd rather find an alpha up front on DL, so we don't need Allen to be all world. Same reason I loved Brady going more balanced on offense. Less pressure on Josh. If we look at how Mahomes/KC has lost in the SB/big games, it's been a steady pass rush. It hasn't been that the other team out offensed them. Mahomes will find a way to overcome, ie: 13 seconds. Just what generational clutch players do. We need someone to be a consistent equalizer on defense- or collective pass rush. Need to keep investing there until it works.
-
Which is why we are sticking to the same strategy -- that the Eagles used to force those punts. Pressure with front 4- take away quick passing game. This is the right move, it's a player e v a l issue if this doesn't work. Which is my concern, Beane and staff haven't crushed DL historically but now just poured 5 new players into the equation ( so far): Bosa, Oji, Hoecht, Sanders, Jackson. I thought they'd remake the secondary with more speed in FA. Hit Max in draft, S is the weakness- guess they're counting on Bishop/DL to cause enough havoc to hide them.
-
I'd agree, but they are clearly counting on two high picks - Kincaid and Keon. Add in Palmer, Shakir, Cook/Rb room. We are missing a speed WR--- maybe that's Thornton tomorrow. This offense is built to be an efficient group. Can't win in playoffs with JAGs in secondary/DL. Love that Beane is trying to kick down the door with a pass rush--- our 3rd down defense was horrible LY. But yes, McD is like the kid at Xmas who got all toys/no clothes --- in a very deep DL draft, it made ALL the sense in the world to double dip up front. His scouts better got it right this time (as you said).
