How is Sean McDermott like Dick Jauron?

They both pee standing up? -
Not a lot of patience out there. Daboll and Allen are both in this together and both have a lot to prove. Daboll, with his dubious stints as OC for other NFL teams producing offenses that could not score with no track record of developing QBs. Allen, proving his detractors wrong that he can be an accurate and effective QB. I expected these games, but when they happen I still get bent out of shape. I hope that QB room is a place where they can work on game plans together that Allen feels comfortable executing and I feel that Daboll has to find ways to get Singletary more involved.

I like these breakdowns, and don't take too much offense. In Daboll's offense the QB has to be able to do a lot of processing of pre-snap reads and select from a lot of option routes to find the open man. It is a lot to ask from Allen at this point, but they seem determined to have him become an OC on the field and there are going to be growing pains What Cover 1 does well is explain how a play is schemed to be open downfield, and how teams are pressuring with blitz packages. Not sure I am looking for them to get to deep into offensive philosophy, but considering the blitzes, disguised looks, and spies taking away hot reads and outlet options, that is when I run Singletary more than 8 times to slow things down a bit for my young QB. I hope Daboll figures out where Allen is at and finds ways to simplify things a bit...the kid was drinking from the firehose trying to process what the defense was doing and has been told to not make mistakes. That's a tall order at this point.

McD's weekly presser: Huddling not planned on final drive
WideNine replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
kind of what I got out of it - Daboll wanted to get a play in that needed the huddle to communicate it and McD was saying in that situation with the clock winding down they should not huddle (you think). So the only take away we can have is that it was a case of poor game day coaching and communication. -
McD's weekly presser: Huddling not planned on final drive

There are some things I am starting to question around Daboll's game-day coaching, and whether he is a better X's an O's guy than hands-on coach, but he was protecting Allen there - anything else folks try to pull out of that comment is a reach. -
Daboll as an OC - Rankings for last 10 years
WideNine replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What QB has he developed then that's makes him qualified? What offense has he taken and made it significantly better? Below is a real resume builder: As you forgot (cherry picked) QBs sans Cassel another pro-bowler. Let's set the wayback machine to Daboll's tenure at KC. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/1298845-kansas-city-chiefs-matt-cassel-and-brian-daboll-will-thrive-with-new-offense Points scored by Daboll's offense: https://www.arrowheadpride.com/2012/11/30/3709930/kansas-city-chiefs-awful-bad-horrible From USA Today about the 2012 Chiefs: Here’s a look at what they had to say about that season for Kansas City: "Easily the least-competitive team this proud franchise has ever fielded. Despite Jamaal Charles’ brilliance, the Matt Cassel era ended with a thud … which included 12 losses in the final 13 games — and a four-game skid to end the season when K.C. was thrashed 103-23 collectively." 2012 Chiefs were the worst Chief teams in their history, a complete tragic org failure... https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/chiefs/2012/12/26/kansas-city-chiefs-long-season/1791101/ What Daboll excels at is breaking down film and finding ways to exploit defenses, it is what he did for NE. What he has not done very well is putting those exploits into practice in games as an OC, or tailoring game plans to his players strengths, and fielding offenses that can score enough points. -

Luiget was out there, and I think he helped. On one play I saw him point out protections and the defensive line shifted and it stoned a run. Could tell it was not his first rodeo. Did not watch him the whole game, will see how other more knowledgeable resources grade his 1st start for us. -

Was thinking about progress overall for the offense. I have some concerns based on Daboll's offensive system success at his other NFL stops over his career. -

I think you are more likely to see a switch at OC before that happens if Daboll keeps shooting himself in the foot. But you are right in that you should see steady progress after 26 games with an expectation that there will be few bad games sprinkled in the mix. -
The same old names - Star, Wallace & Lee Smith
WideNine replied to PUNT750's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So that is what we are calling it when you let the receiver you are covering catch the ball ? Levi has been struggling since just before the break and in all seriousness we need an upgrade at corner if they are looking for someone who can play man opposite White - particularly with how much our pass rush has tapered off. I understand that teams go after Wallace instead of White, but that means that Wallace has got to step up his game or he is going to get picked on over and over. I have no doubt that if the team we play next week rolls this week's film Wallace can expect a lot more passes to go his way and we can watch him hold his own again. Lee Smith - we are in complete agreement there. No excuse for having him out there when you need a reach block as it is going to be called a hold every time. Either the officials are looking closely at him expecting him to hold, or he has bad technique that is not being corrected. Either way, he is a liability on the field. -
I think our defense should have been able to keep them out of the EZ on that drive because we needed them to. The Browns as talented as they are, have been held to 13 points 3 times this year and once to only 3 points and they were not playing like like they did against the Ravens today regardless of their talent. It was clear that Wallace could not be left on an island and Frazier did on that drive and we paid for it. The offense needs to play better too.

OK - that solves their problems how? I really mean this to be thought-provoking so let's look at all the other high QB draft picks from 2018. You realize that Mayfield, though they won today, is 3-6 this year and his longest pass was 24 yards today and he leads the league in interceptions while having the luxury of an embarrassment of riches in regards to receiving weapons. He threw two or three into the hands of our defenders that were dropped today. Darnold has PTSD after playing NE Rosen has been bounced around. LJax was not taken very high and is doing the most out of the group with his opportunities. The biggest difference with most all of these QBs is how effective their coaches are surrounding them with talent, preparing game plans, calling good games with the right adjustments, and teaching their QB how to leverage their talents. -

Yet here we are...dancing around the flames. -
The defense was not good enough to win or we would have won. The fact is that we had taken the lead and the defense crapped the bed and allowed an 80 plus yard drive and the go ahead TD and left a struggling offense with a minute and change to march down the field and try to take the lead again. Some of that is on Frazier - who has a penchant for easing up on the gas in situations and playing not to lose when he needs to be aggressive against a struggling QB. There are no heroes from this game just looking at the box score. And it shouldn't take the 85 Bears or 00 Ravens to beat the struggling 2019 2-6 Browns led by a 2nd year QB who is tied for the league lead in interceptions... not the best analogy. Did the offense do enough - no. Did the defense do enough - no. Did special teams do enough - no. Coaches... obviously no. Team loss, and there are a lot of things to fix - going to be a long week at OBD.

I genuinely asked because I don't think a lot of those bitching and whining really have any realistic plans or steps the Bills could take to improve as a team. This guy sucks, or that guy sucks is about as far as they can go before they get really creative and say your a fanboy because you are trying to analyze the play of the players we have and the plays called by our coaches and figure out if there are ways those could be better. Of course Allen should play better, and so should our defense, and so should Hausch. There are a lot of things that need fixing when I look at the game they played today. It is that "fire them all" kind of mentality that really does not have anything substantive to add in regards to improving player performance or the team overall. -

That presser from Allen is as down as I have seen him. He needs to play better and he knows it. In a way I expected more of these soul-searching kind of games and you always want to see how a player responds the next week. McD was called out for how long it takes his run D to tighten up and he is true to form and said that he needs to get better. Overall, I am pretty sure that McDermott's main issue was the one he reiterated a few times early in the presser and that is that the Bills have got to start scoring more than 16 points a game, I would expect to see some changes this week in the personnel or play calling on the offensive side of the ball. I think McD gives his coordinators room to fix their own issues, but if they can't get it done I will expect more collective input into the offensive game-planning. McDermott definitely looked a bit angry about the 3rd and manageable play calls. -
What Was The Worst Thing About Today's Loss?
WideNine replied to Peace Frog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Other. Worst of all is that it was a winnable game if the Bills stepped up to take it. Yet, like we have come to see so often with this team, they tend to let bad teams hang around till the result teeters on the freaking knife's edge. It is inevitable that when we do not put teams away we are going come out on the wrong end of some of these. -

Yep. Not throwing Wallace under the bus, just noting there are match-ups that are bad for him. Teams know to match him up with physical receivers who play that physical bump and run game and that is not Wallace's game. Wallace seems to be better suited keeping the play in front of him with a cushion coming up to prevent RAC, or trying to come up to make a play on the ball and schematically the Bills defense is ok with giving up those short gainers. The problem is teams are forcing him to hang with physical receivers in man coverage for longer with routes that drag across the field, on deeper routes, and on slants where he is no longer playing to his strength. He is not small for a corner, but I would not consider him a very physical corner that can stay on a receiver, harass him, and prevent the completions. -
One forced turnover by Bills D in five weeks
WideNine replied to Ethan in Cleveland's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And if the defense could close out games games we could say the same - will always give them a pass for that NE game where they played lights out. The problem is both. A defense that gives up 100-200 yards rushing each week and clock-consuming 80+ yard drives sans enough 3 and outs, and a schizophrenic offense struggling to finish drives with a kicker who cannot collect the bonus points when drives stall within striking distance. If Hausch hits those two kicks that's 20 on the board and enough points to win several NFL games that transpired today including ours. No one on the team from the coaches on down can be happy with their performance today. There is enough blame to go around, we don't have to lean on hyperbole.
