  1. Where I thought he took a step back today was his passes on the move where I felt that he had been excelling at his ball placement. Allen has me baffled at times particularly when he makes some of the easier passes look hard - like the 8-10 yd drag routes. But I think it all comes down to someone whose muscle-memory has been trained to throw heaters to a spot vs dropping passes with anticipation in front of his moving target. I have seen him throw some beautiful deep ones down the sideline last year that were in and out of the hands of his receiver so I don't know if he is over-thinking the mechanics right now, but it's not there. I have seen some improvement with a variety of Allen's passes and folks can agree to disagree, and I think because of his arm strength the passes Allen struggles to make makes sense as they are things I would expect him to struggle with. So this is where I think he is at: Come-back routes - money, receiver finding a spot and sitting in a zone - money, deep outs where he is throwing it outside a hash on a timing route - pretty good to very good if receivers can hang on, slants and posts - getting better, throwing a running receiver open on a drag or go route - long way to go still. And I think the reason our screens are not working is because defenses are playing disciplined trying to keep Allen in the pocket, that means that they are not going to run up the field with abandon. The ends stay home and they can easily sniff those out - they may not ever work very well for us. R
  2. About as fair an assessment as you are going to get here. Mixed bag today. Some poor throws early, some poor play calls or blown execution, some drops, some pressure in his face today, some great throws where he stepped into them. Ball chopped out of his hand from behind so more ball security drills in his future.
  3. Some are looking for finished product, and he is not there. I think Allen needs some more play makers out there too. I felt he pulled up on throws to Knox that needed to get there faster, because Knox has struggled catching the fast balls. This allowed the defender to close in, but some folks only see bad pass. There is a lot going on out there.
  4. Mayfield has some receiving weapons too. I do think Mayfield is more willing to throw 50/50 balls and Allen is being coached to protect the ball. Allen does have to improve throwing guys open, and what I mean by that is that he should not be hitting Smoke in the ass on a drag route. Unlike some, I have seen improvement, but the consistency needs to get better.
  5. Truth. The consistency is not there, but note that the Browns went to the air vs Wallace rather than face our run D on their game-winning drive. Our defense has a bad habit of getting gashed in the first half of games and finally tightening things up in the 2nd. Those adjustments need to happen faster.
  6. They did better although the stat line will not reflect it. I think Star may have been the victim of an illegal chop block early that sprung a long one. They were using leverage to the left like they were setting up a stretch play and I thought he was engaged with a blocker when they sent a pulling player low that took out his legs and created the hole for a long gainer. Edmunds had some early mistakes, but also turned in some really good run-stopping plays. I want him to mature faster, but if I am honest and not just pissed, Edmunds is coming along. I think he eventually will become quite a stud for this defense. Like everyone else here - I want it to happen faster. Still think that he would have been insanely good off the edge as a pass rusher or dropping back into coverage, but that ship has likely sailed and he will get there at MLB.
  7. truly enlightening comment. so other QBs do not leave plays on the field... Mayfield did not leave any, or Mahomes for that matter - really? Not defending Allen, but when you make comments like this you are just trolling - poorly.
  8. Most are saying it is both, but go ahead and run with that narrative.
  9. And your D handed them the score and the lead leaving a minute and change on the clock - they share the blame on this one whether you want to look there or not.
  10. So Daboll has a proven track record of good offenses? This offense is stuck in a rut and I am not really sure if it would not be stuck in a rut with any other QB at the helm He shares the blame, there is no way that 2-minute drill should have looked like it did. Your team should be prepared and ready to spike the ball when you catch it in bounds for a 1st and the clock is still running. They looked like the keystone cops out there. Then calling a screen when your average for having those work is n the single digit percentages. I think I know what he was thinking and that is that it should work with the Browns playing deep and only a few guys rushing, but teams know to stay disciplined playing against Allen and not to lose contain. So defensive lines particularly the ends know that they cannot get too deep in their pass rush and that is why they are in good position to sniff out those screens almost every time. So don't call it if it is rarely if ever there even if most fans are screaming for it. The O-line struggled today in pass-pro too, and Allen was much better when he could step into throws, but overall Allen did not have a good game IMO. He particularly had accuracy issues early in the game, so I am not an apologist. He too needs to show more improvement to make it in this league. I do think he took a lot off his throws to Knox to try to help him make those catches on those deeper outs and that allowed defenders to close the gap - Knox needs to be able to catch those outs thrown with heat because they are supposed to get there fast.
  11. Well we are what we are. A poor offensive team with a decent defense that struggles to get off the field and stop the run and a defensive back in Wallace who is a liability in single coverage. The defense did an amazing job in their goal line stands and I will not take that away from them. Hausch misses field goals so McD and Daboll cannot play the game like they can win by playing for field position and field goals. As much as I believe in consistency I still feel that Daboll game-plans and personnel selections are head-scratchers what is wrong with our screens - they get sniffed out all the time and Allen has to choose between throwing it in the dirt or into crowd of mixed jerseys. Why is Lee Smith on the field at all - how many holding penalties does it take to lose reps on this team ? Why is Duke not suited up when you need to be able to get Singletary out on the edge with space? We have proved nothing against talented teams and Kitchens called one of the worst games I have ever seen and the Bills coaching staff still were out-coached - embarrassing and they are going to need to hear the critique that something needs to change. Especially the offense as that game management at the end was abysmal. Daboll has taught Allen that they can spike the ball to stop the clock - right? And a huddle with the clock running - WTF, that's coaching, more specifically the failure of coaching. The Bills need to accept that they are not that good yet (sigh). Sky is not falling - that 24 yard pass at the end was the longest by Mayfield, but good teams and defenses do not give up that score at the end. We need another corner who can play man and be physical where I believe Wallace excels as a zone DB. Most of that drive, including the TD, was on Wallace.
  12. Stop with the stats.... killing us with Karma
  13. Was that a screen - a bad one?
  14. Spain left his assignment wide open. Allen needs to not roll out to where Garrett is.
  15. Mentioned he had some weakness in his game a few weeks ago and pitchforks and torches. Folks are seeing it now. It is ok to say that guys have things that they need to work on, that includes Allen.
  16. Wallace again - the match-up they like.
  17. He releases it straight up in the air. Officials giving Hughes a break... odds are not good.
  18. WE WERE SO DUE for one of those.
  19. Why are we in that soft zone coverage again???
  20. That was a good defensive play too, but Allen is going to have to know that NOW he is that guy that everyone defender is going to punch and chop at his arm and ball. He brought it on himself and he is just going to have to develop a habit of wrapping it up with both hands. Tough because he is completely focused on the sticks or scoring, has to play with a bit more understanding of where he is at and not doing too much.
  21. He was way in - no doubt. Kept lower too on his sneak - been a few where he was too vertical and has taken some unnecessary hits.
  22. Was a heads up play, and any good football season takes good plays and some lucky bounces.
  23. On the edge of the paint.... you know what's coming the Allen sneak - he needs to stay low if they do with his fumble-itis
  24. How did that ball come out?????? WTF. Allen back to the ball-security drills. Better lucky than good. Only the Bills can make you feel elated while you are throwing up in your mouth.
