He has been solid. Pleasantly surprised that the Bills coaching staff is keeping competition open on some of these OL roles as I don't think Spain was in good game shape and they immediately started moving guys around on the line looking for guys who were earning it. I like Ford at LG as that is usually the weak side and and more often than not the Bills would be pulling from the RG traditionally strong-side position and pulling was not his strong suit, but blocking in limited space and being a mauler when needed - yep. Even more options when Feliciano gets back. I still think we are a bit thin at C and need to develop some depth there. I really like Morse, but he is only a helmet to helmet shot from being out for a while with his history.

Week 3 Around the NFL. What’s your 🔥 take?
WideNine replied to SlimShady'sSpaceForce's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I forgot how that man does nothing to get close to and win a team over... he would probably delegate someone else to high-five a player for a great play. Maybe the Jets should hire Russ Brandon to help with their search.... just say'n. -
Should the Bills bring in Marcel Dareus?

Does anyone honestly feel that if the situation was reversed and White or Wallace road and impeded Cupp or Roberts like that 8 yards downfield the hankies would not fly... even if Goff turfed it at their feet???

Never get these comments when there are certainly other places in the US that have tough winters, and having lived in MN yes Antarctica fits. Winter 7 months out of the year and then a wet sauna mosquito factory for 4 more and if you are lucky there is a collective one month of decent fall weather. Yeah, take away the twin cities economic benefits that can make you talk yourself into saying "it's cool, I can just live inside most of my life or spend some of the time outside slathered in DEET", and you are left with, "why the hell do I live here?". Don't get me wrong, met some really great people and have family and friends there and there is a city and some night life if that is your thing, BUT there is no room to talk about the crappy weather elsewhere when good weather is so hard to come by there. *In Minneapolis, there are 147.9 days annually when the nighttime low temperature falls below freezing, which is one of the warmest places in Minnesota. *An annual snowfall of 52.4 inches in Minneapolis means that it is one of the snowiest places in Minnesota. December is the snowiest month in Minneapolis with 11.5 inches of snow, and 7 months of the year have significant snowfall. Found this spot-on comment right on the top of one of the weather sites: Disclosure: I'm 28 and have lived in Minneapolis or St. Paul for 19 years. At this age I am maxed out on MN winters. They get harder for me every year. It is honestly 6 months of bad weather, October - April. While it might only be below zero or regularly blizzard-ing for a few months, what gets you is the lack of sunlight over that long period of time. January-February is usually where I lose speed. It really affects everyone's mental health. Everyone I know, even if they are very pro-Minnesota, gets darker (yet paler) in the winter. It's comparable to an abusive relationship. When spring comes around, there is hope. You enjoy sun, lakes, being outside for long periods of time. It seems like anything is possible in summer. But then it's August, and the realization hits - You only have 2 more months until it all comes back. Our residents are blue in more ways than one. (That's a political joke, and a weather joke, and a mental health joke).Note: I am moving.Second note: Minneapolis is a very large city. So add that on top of the weather and depending on who you are, it gets more awful. (May be referencing the riots and road blocks and burning buildings, etc...)

I wont say the production has fallen some, but Hyde injured his ankle in week 1 and reinjured it (I think it is the same ankle) this game. We have a lot of players playing hurt. Hopefully get all that bad ju-ju out of the way early this year and be healthier down the stretch.

How can we improve this defence?
WideNine replied to Niagara Dude's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You know fixing de "fence" kind of fits -
I just made that point too and referenced the comments about the PI. "He is playing hands-on... checking him (waaay past the 5 yards allowed). And what does he mean that the receiver initiates the contact? The proper term is extracted himself from the contact They also have to gloss over the fact that the Rams gave up a 3rd and 22 from Allen to get the team down there, and Allen still had to throw another TD against a defense that had only allowed 1 passing TD in its prior 2 games... OK c'mon now Robert, I liked you when you were a Bill and you played a heck of a game, but would you like some cheese with your whine?

Gabriel Davis on the 4th and 9 late PI call
WideNine replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Cannot believe the level of whining on that play from some Sports commentators who blow off the egregious change of possession gaffe with Kroft yet think that db's riding your WR all the way down the field (well past the 5 yards) should not be called in a tight game. Uncatchable I keep hearing, but the fact that the receiver could not run his route due to being held who knows where he would have been. Once there is holding it only matters that the ball is thrown near the intended receiver. As far as calling a PI there, that is exactly when a ref should be looking for pass interference. In a tight game coming down to the wire - where a team is not going to be running the ball and burning seconds off the clock. They completely gloss over how the Rams D could not stop Allen on 3rd and forever to get the Bills in position to make that play to begin with or that he still had to throw for a TD. The Rams had only given up one TD pass in the prior 2 games and pass defense was considered a team strength - Allen carved them up before the weird call and protection started to break down late in the 3rd then came on strong again when he had to. On Allen's 3rd TD throw in the 1st half the body language of the Rams defense said everything. They had no answers and had basically accepted a TD was happening. -
The Jalen Ramsey Foot In Mouth Thread
WideNine replied to KingBoots8's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Probably not the most popular opinion, but I don't mind the Jalen Ramsey's of the sports world. Like the Brian Cox's of his day it gave you someone to hate on and root against. He is a talker, he talks trash to get himself up for games, when interviewed before this game he was bummed that the Bills Mafia would not be there because he was looking forward to us giving him the business because that motivates him. He is a good db and part of what makes him good is that he is opportunistic about diagnosing and jumping routes. That being said, he tries to sense when routes have matured and he will take his eyes off his responsibilities and read the QB's eyes. In this way he can be moved off his spot and create openings. Josh used that often against him this game, but on the TD throw to Diggs he just trusted Diggs was better - he was. -
Brian Daboll Future HC (Ken Dorsey Replacement?)
WideNine replied to Kmart128's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think this would be a mistake for Dabs, as he is one of those guys who makes a great OC, but prob not HC. Sometimes we should stick to what we do well. There is a selfish element to that, but still true. -
I watched and listened to him say that too and I do not think for a minute that he was just parroting what OBD coaches him to say. He wants it so bad he can taste it and that drive is a great thing, but also something Allen will need to wrap more control around and harness to use in productive ways. Josh mentioned taking what the defense gave him, but I think if he is honest and once he calms down he will see that he could do a better job with that, particularly when he gets amped up in a game. He is going to have to figure out a way to take a deep breath and force himself away from the tendency to get "stuck" looking beyond the sticks for those huge chunks of yardage that his mind is screaming he needs to make up to get his team the win and actually take what the defense is giving on those earlier downs. I say this only because I REALLY like our QB and I prefer him not running for his life and getting rocked (turning the ball over or injured) while waiting for things to develop 30 yards downfield when that is not necessary on those early downs - even in those 2-minute drills with the game on the line. Now if we screw ourselves with false starts (crowd noise??), or other penalties and put ourselves in a down and distance holes... then yeah I can see that Allen will need to perform some miracles to help dig us out. Defenses like the Rams and the Patriots last year (prob others) do note when Allen starts playing more amped up and emotional. Then they like to drop everyone back to the sticks playing variations of quarters defense... or some other twist that puts a lot of coverage deep where Allen's eyes will tend to be. This should open things up underneath for Josh to do a quick scamper to the sideline for a chunk of yards and stopping the clock, or soft spots in the zones underneath for better down and distance options, but Allen is no longer looking there. He is holding the ball longer looking for things to develop 20-30 yards downfield which allows the rush to get to him, and often puts the team in those 3rd or 4th and 22, or some other statistically low percentage situation. That forces Allen to do those things very few QBs can do like that frozen rope to Beasley for all those yards in the middle of 3-4 Ram defenders to pick up the first, but it does not have to be that hard if he walks himself back a bit from the ledge earlier. I think he realized that during that last drive and forced himself to not just chuck the ball over and over into the end zone - he mentioned as much, but now he just needs to improve on that some more. I would rather my QB have that fire, but Allen needs to temper that with the "ice in his veins" that McD spoke of and do some self-scouting of what his tendencies are and how defenses are exploiting those when Allen feels the heat (when other team takes the lead, or a bad call or turnover, or final minutes with team in a hole). He is an amazing QB and will only get better as he recognizes these things and takes the steps to correct them and continues to grow.

How can we improve this defence?
WideNine replied to Niagara Dude's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Rams left tackle Whitworth is dominant and probably hall of fame bound.... Jerry Hughes has been a non-factor for a while. I think he had off-season groin surgery and if you have never had a groin pull/tear you have no idea how much that effects you. You absolutely lose any lateral burst. So not sure Jerry is at 100%, but his name has not been called very much for many games. He has not been the same player, but he was going against an all pro and the Rams often keep Everette in as an extra blocker. Addison was neutralized too. This was a game where we had to get penetration into their backfield to help blow up the reverses and fakes, to deny Goff a pocket to step into, to keep their running back from getting a head of steam hitting the gaps. For much of the game we did not move the line, nor set the edges in a meaningful way. I like Taron in run support, but he is a liability covering the slot was caught peeking into the backfield and missing his assignments and was burnt for the 31 yard gainer to Roberts as he let him blow right by and Edmunds had to clean it up. That motion of Woods cutting between Goff and the RB and how slick the fake is when he gets the ball is definitely something Dabs should put in the Bills arsenal. Had our DE's completely looking the wrong way at the fake to the RB and leaning inside instead of driving up field setting the edge. White's tackling has been suspect. Woods really took it to us this game. Liked him as a Bill and I was not wrong about him...tough competitor. But that d-line play or scheme......oooo boy. Needs some work, as they were getting powned. Look at the LOS below, a wall of Rams blocking a yard deep on our side. The runner is just on the other side of 93-Murphy who is engaged with a blocker 81?, but setting the edge. The runner has a gaping hole between RT and TE-Higbee, Edmunds is chasing Woods-17 (does not have the ball) and taking himself out of the play, 90-Jefferson was not able to anchor much today and often was turned completely around and washed out with his back to the play much like on this play. A lot of the same things we saw last year that they tightened up, but never quite fixed. Will be curious what changes McD makes. -
Tremaine Edmunds and the run game
WideNine replied to BillsFan130's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Per BangedUpBills.com Tremaine Edmunds right shoulder. Had a shoulder harness on. See those with labrum tear, but not absolute confirmation. Could be RC, AC still. He did get hit hard on the last Rams TD play. Direct shot to shoulder, explains why he wasn’t in final series Edmunds was (as we suspected) not playing at 100%, hard to judge the positioning and arm tackles when playing with an injury like that so only fair to wait for him to get healthy to really see if he has made any progress. Tough thing to ask of the kid at this point and a curious call to start him against a team that runs as well as the Rams. He does make defensive adjustments calls and I guess they felt he could bring more than Dodson... Summarize others here: Dawkins maybe just shaken up will prob be tested to make sure shoulder is fine, but I don't think I saw him go into the locker room...so fingers crossed. Addison was cramping up. Brown likely a calf strain. Hyde possibly low ankle sprain (left ankle?) as that was an injury he had game 1. -
I like that my QB was pissed after winning a game in the final seconds.... visibly seething when interviewed on the field and later for the zoom calls. He just won, why is he so angry? Because he said, I let my foot off the pedal, because I did not find ways to keep our offense moving in the second half, because I turned the ball over and lost my head with the refs and was assessed a penalty that put my defense in a bad spot. This is a growth mindset, accepting some things done well but not being blinded by accomplishments - knowing there are things you can work to improve. I think he feels that he is still miles away and all I can say is strap in everybody........this IS our QB.

Postgame Thread Bills vs Rams
WideNine replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It was just that Kroft had his hands on the db's back and there's enough contact to make a case....a weak one. If Kroft wanted to he could have sent that db flying, but he was focused on making a play on the ball. The db played it up throwing his hands up and such and the back judge bought it and threw the hanky and the other ref felt left out so he threw his too. Didn't matter because they decided to double down on the dumb and call it an INT. It was just bizarre, and it would be far less odd as a NFL play if the refs had not inserted themselves and just let it stand as a catch with some incidental contact. -
The pass to Kroft keeps getting criticized- Why?
WideNine replied to oldmanfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am of the opinion that a lot of Allen's throws are ill-advised in regards to letting it rip with defensive linemen in his lap or hanging off him. He covers for a lot of pass pro breakdown in this offense and blitzes coming clean. But, more often than not he gets the ball where it needs to be. Allen lofted that ball just about perfectly over the defender. Kroft had a hand on the back of the DB who was a bit too shallow to make a leaping play on the ball, and it struck me more as incidental contact as the db was jumping back towards Kroft. But if they want to call an offensive PI that is pretty weak even in slow-mo they could. Still there is no INT, no fumble, and the receiver came down with the ball with contact. Play is over and either stands as a catch or is an offensive PI call. If not for Rivera's bizarro world of officiating that's a heck of a throw under pressure. -
Week 3 Around the NFL. What’s your 🔥 take?
WideNine replied to SlimShady'sSpaceForce's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We need a Bills mafia marketing blitz to keep Gase in our division. Or start a social media influence campaign, those are kind of in vogue. -
Happy with the win, not happy with the coaching staff
WideNine replied to Beast's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just wait till our Bills have to play a real team...isn't that how the media spins our wins each week Glad for the win,, but ok saying there is a lot of poor play on the defensive side of the ball the Bills will need to correct to turn around these 2nd half collapses that have become a theme. -
Tremaine Edmunds and the run game
WideNine replied to BillsFan130's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Someone posted that the Mike in McD's offense is not expected to play a typical role and that is true as they want a 3-down player who can cover too. But looking at Kuechly in McD's time with the Panthers, he was known not just for his coverage skills, but also for not missing tackles. We have not seen that aspect of the Mike game from Edmunds yet. I am open to being convinced otherwise. His poor positioning and arm tackling also played a role in his shoulder injury. The kid has a lot of work to do, or the Bills are going to have to re-think his role. And this has not been just a one game knee-jerk critique...we have been here before and have had our share of games where these exact same issues have surfaced then the few where he flashes promise.
