Early news from DAY 2 of OTA's
Sen. John Blutarsky replied to VOR's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And he shouldn't be allowed to stop doing that until at least July. Lock him in at night and leave the lights on. Except, when he's catching balls there should be a DB in there trying to strip it out. He had a very hard time securing the ball after it hit his hands last year. Not enough hand/forearm strength. He'd have it then it would get pucnhed/pulled out when the DB would hit his arms. -
Vick is the perfect 2nd string QB. He can come in off the bench when the #1 gets hurt and he doesn't need a lot of reps in the offense to be able to make a difference in a short amount of time. That's how I'd want him used if he were on the team. Clearly not as a #1 QB. #2 QB for use in emergencies, and special formations (Wildcat, etc.). He'll be cheap and a far better #2 QB than Fitzpatrick.

So the players we've had over the years who have beaten women, killed their ex wife, used drugs, had multiple DUIs, run over people with cars, killed three teenagers in a DUI accident prior to singing with us, assualted police officers, etc haven't bothered you that much? Sign a guy who killed some dogs, and now they're done? I'm not condoning Vick's behavior, I'm just pointing out that we've had a cast of people here over the years who have done some pretty heinous things to other people and we all keep watching.

Enough with these gay jokes...not really funny
Sen. John Blutarsky replied to SuperBills12's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I really don't feel like it's PC. You really don't see anyone commenting on how our RB needs be be less niggardly (yes it's a word and it doesn't mean what you think, nor is it even correctly used here much like gay=stupid) when he gets arrested. It's just not appropriate so people don't do it (at least in a public forum). If you accept that about 10% of the populace is homosexual then you have to figure that there about 5 gay players on the team at any one time. -

Sen. John Blutarsky replied to SuperBills12's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Well, like most things, it really depends on how you're saying it. If I mention that the best man at my wedding was a gay man that's not a problem becuase it's factual, not threatening, or demeaning. If I were to say something like "JP Losman is the gayest QB we've ever had on our team" there really isn't an appropriate way to interpret that sentence (unless JP were to come out tomorrow in which case it would possibly be factual). However, I think the crux of the debate is when people use the word gay to mean stupid which is definetly not what was intended by whomever coined the term originally. -

Though my guess is that use of the word gay devolved from the word queer which used to be much more common and has an actual meaning that more closely approximates the current, inappropriate, use of the term "gay" to mean dumb or stupid. Either way, you mark yourself as relatively unenlightened when you use that word that way. -
So long as our GM is from the marketing department a Mike Vick signing is never out of the question. Half of everyone would be excitied. Half of everyone would be incensed. Think of all the attention! For the record I think he's going to Dallas but in this new "The Bills will sign TO world" nothing seems too outrageous anymore.

Gay as in homosexual or "gay" as in lame? Cuz most threads have both. -
Prediction - 2 1,000 yd backs

Well, given that's it's only ever happened 5 times (4 with 2 RBs) I'd say you're probably an idiot. Linkeroo -
Four most important people
Sen. John Blutarsky replied to BillsVet's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, building on the New England model. HGH dealer, video tape guru, exceedingly wealthy owner, QB -
It died when the Rigases killed Adelphia with their shenanigans. I doubt WNY will see another regional network in the near future. It's not even possible until the Sabres contract comes up for bid again. I have to say it irks the hell out of me watching a Sabres game on MSG and enduring the NYC commercials as though anyone in WNY gives a good god damn about the Legends of Madison Square Garden. They have to run a show about the legends because nobody worth a damn plays there now!

Why stop at a key? They could give him the deeds to half the East Side. Maybe he could be an urban farmer. Now THAT'd be a reality show. TO, Paris Hilton and Nicole Ritchie urban farming in B-Lo.

Could all eight Jaguars home games be blacked out?
Sen. John Blutarsky replied to Lori's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That franchise is a joke. The league ALREADY lets them skate around the blackout rules. I guarantee the Jags are on TV all 8 times because the owners want it to be that way. They'll find a new way to game the rules or just tarp over 10 or 20 thousand more seats. -
Bills have $13.8 million in cap room
Sen. John Blutarsky replied to Fingon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Because the Eagles have a long standing policy of not overpaying for certain positions. They let players walk every single year rather than pay them more than they feel they are worth. Last year Lito Sheppard was unhappy, now he's gone. The year before it was Darwin Walker, then it was TO, etc. etc. etc. This year it's Sheldon Brown. They criminally underpaid Brian Westbrook for several years before they gave him an extensionThey let both tackles and Brian Dawkins walk all of whom were very popular. They sign a couple good FAs every year and have about 20 million in cap space left over every year. It's a very sore subject around here because the Eagles have been much closer to a Super Bowl than the Bills have been, have a full stadium and are flush with money yet underspend by 20-30 million every year and have no WRs for McNabb to throw to. The one year he had a real WR (TO) they went to the Super Bowl. Other years he's had James Thrash, Todd Pinkston, Reggie Brown, Greg Lewis etc as primary targets. Even this year. Once again, everyone in Philly wants them to get a real WR. Last year they got outbid for Moss, this year they didn't pull the trigger on a deal for Boldin but drafted Maclin. That switch of moves saved them TONS of cap space. Maclin will be far cheaper than Boldin for the next 3-4 years and the move will keep McNabb nominally happy and the fans quiet. They refuse to spend dollars on WRs, they even had TO at a substantial discount, which was the problem eventually. However, they did lay out big money for Andrews and Peters to replace Thomas and Runyan and, in the past, they have spent big money/high picks on OL/DL. My guess is that the Eagles will make a lowball offer for Burress once they figure out his legal status. All their other WRs (Jackson, Maclin, Curtis) are smurfs. The Eagles are geniuses. They have figured out how to win just enough to keep everyone rabidly excited but still pocket an extra 20-30 mil per season. They spend less than the Bills annually, make more money on ticket sales, swag, etc. annually, and win more games annually. -
"Current days of [free] internet will soon be over"
Sen. John Blutarsky replied to Fezmid's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Kind of like the difference between ESPN.com and ESPN Insider. Does Insider occasionally have things I really want to read? Yup. Does that inspire me to pay for it? Nope. Newspapers as we know them are going to go away and we need to get used to the idea. I know that they used to be the primary mode of news delivery in the world but that day has passed. As soon as your town is down to one paper it usually ceases to be worthwhile. Does anyone want to argue that the Buffalo News has improved since the Courier Express went away? So if my options for getting news are reading one newspaper with the same slant all the time or watching 5 different networks and reading 5 different online sources in the same amount of time I'll take the latter. The truely great writers will all find jobs in the new medium (see also Vic Carucci) and the rest of the mediocre hacks out there will fade away (see also Jerry Sullivan). -

Sen. John Blutarsky replied to Fezmid's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Of course, now that so many of the "Higher denominator" outlets are laying so many people off who's to say that those sites won't create a more robust news reporting department since they have already figured out how to make money (Google anyway) without actually making anything and there is an ample supply of good writers who need jobs. FWIW, there are two newspapers in Philadephia that are both owned by an advertising company (Tierney). They are different flavors of crap. The reporting is just as slipshod as you'd find anywhere else and it isn't worth the paper it's printed on. I constantly run into guys at kiosks who are trying to sell me a subscription and I've had a couple give me grief when I say I don't get any papers at the house. I then respond that I've already read 3 online papers from different parts of the country that day for nothing that have breaking news included from that day. Why on Earth would I pay money for something which is at least 6-12 hours old by the time I get it when I can see a more up to date product online for nothing? I agree witht he paper sunset idea. Advertisers will still want to advertise but so many decisions are still made by stodgy old farts that they won't move over to online ads until they are forced to. -
Carucci on the OL

I agree. No more fat wusses. Gimmie some angry people to block for our angry running backs. 3 and 1 is an attitude. Failure is not an option. -
Wendell Bryant tryout with bills
Sen. John Blutarsky replied to beastly23's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He was the #12 pick overall and Larry Felser wrote a column just before the draft suggesting the Bills should take him with the #4 selection they used on Mike Williams. -
Here's my take on Lynch. He has the ability to make people miss and break tackles, the problem is that once he jump cuts it allows the pursuit to catch up. Thus, if our line is able to get him to the second level WITHOUT having to do any of those things we will see some more long runs from him. Thus far, however, I think he's had to make most of his moves and break most of the tackles within 3 yards of the LOS. If we can get him into the secondary without having to break stride to juke he'll house more than a few runs. People get too hung up on the long runs I think. TT was not a homerun threat every time he touched the ball. He had one 80 yard run in his whole career and he needed a downfield block from Lofton to score. I'll gladly trade the odd 80 yard run for a 5.0 average carry. It leads to more consistent offense in general since with an average like that it's way more liley that we'll end up in 3rd and shorts as opposed to 3rd and 7 plus. Would I like both long TD runs and a consistent 4.5-5 yard avg? You bet, but that's pretty rare.
-
Considering that Reed has a total of 9 TDs over his whole career thusfar I think you might be reaching a bit high. FWIW, Reed has touched the ball a total of 303 times and scored 9 TDs in 7 years. Parrish has touched the ball 218 times and scored 9 TDs in 4 years.

Buffalo Bills' Cap Room Heading Into Draft Weekend
Sen. John Blutarsky replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Note avatar, John Belushi from the film Animal House. Mr. Belushi's character, John "Bluto" Blutarsky, goes on a psychotic rant about halfway through the film and poses the question "Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?? Hell no!"" To which another character, Otter, turns to a 3rd character, Boon, and says quizzically "Germans??" to which Boon replies, "Forget it, he's rolling." At this point, the scene cuts back to Mr. Belushi's rant where he continues on for several more lines in a rather comedic sort of fashion. It was a terribly funny bit of cinema. A clip of the aformentioned comedic jocularity Now, Michael. You are apparently from Germany so you can be excused for not being completely up to speed on legendary 1970's American comedic films. Rest assured that we are all aware that neither you nor your countrymen had any role to play in the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The Germans of that period were far to busy plotting and executing other various and assorted Final Solutions to bring the Luftwaffe all the way around to the back side of the planet to bomb an island. They might have thought of it, but at some point along the way the agreed "Hell, if we want to bomb an island England is like right there! <high fives all around the table>". So long as we are on the subject, I should reassure you that we are all aware that this clip does not actually depict Adolf Hitler and the subtitles are a gross misrepresentation of his true feelings regarding the Bills and Terrell Owens, in particular. Were he living today, we could only assume that der Fuhrer would have approved of the TO signing for it's brilliant propaganda value. Speaking for all of my fellow University graduates, particularly we who have degrees in History, I that hope I've cleared up a few things for you this evening and hope that you'll bring any of your future misunderstandings to our attention for immediate remediation.
