The type of wide receiver Josh needs
HamptonBillsfan replied to Buffalo716's topic in The Stadium Wall
Can you remember what Josh did against the Rams and the Lions in dome conditions? He was unstoppable. Now the Lions were decimated on defense but LA was a stout defense and we shredded them. Last week we scored 29 against KC and against the Broncos who were a top defense, Josh destroyed them. Every game is different and and you will look back on your post about Kincaid and Coleman next season and realize a rookie and a 2nd year talent sometimes takes a postseason or two to become great. Josh scores 30 against everyone. -

The Bills always score 30. They did it last year and got beat by 60 yd FG at the gun against Philly. -
No way they let Ty go. He’s much to productive as a 3rd down playmaker both running and out of the backfield creating mismatches. Josh loves him and we used him perfectly. He won’t too expensive and he wants to be here.

You bring in a primary target and you stunt the development of Kincaid, Coleman and use up cap space for the defense that has secondary and edge rusher needs. -
The type of wide receiver Josh needs

Josh has good enough receivers to win championships right now. Consider, Kincaid was just OK this year, so with an offseason and a chip on his shoulder to prove something, he should put up big #s and Brady will make him a big part of the offense. Coleman will only get better when Josh adjusts to his skill set. Shakir is as solid as any slot receiver in football and Samuel was productive in a limited role but we’ve got to use him better because he was not nearly as reliable as he was as a primary target.. Finally, with Cook,Johnson and Davis the mismatches are plentiful coming out of the backfield. With these weapons the acquisitions should be all on defense. -
Free Agency Splash target should be DJ Reed

Sounds right and we desperately need a FA hard hitting safety or edge guy. Someone who can provide leadership for all these young guys. -

Got to be concerned with entire secondary. Benford had two rapid fire concussions. That situation makes his future tenuous with him leading with his head so much. Douglas is gone and Rapp can’t stay healthy. The rookie we drafted looked like a deer in the headlights at safety, so we’re desperately in need of FAs and quality draft choices to stabilize the back end. -
Loved Kemp and as a little boy connected with football with that team at the rock pile. In fairness though, it was the HOF caliber defense that won us championships in the old AFL. Kemp was a Bart Starr type of QB with a better arm.He had an awesome O-line with bruising RBs and some speedy receivers. He could run when necessary but his arm talent and elusiveness can’t be compared to Josh. Kelly’s no huddle offense took the NFL by storm. Calling plays at the line before the defense could adjust , made us unbelievable. His leadership and instincts for picking defenses apart was as good as an QBs in history. Kemp had 3 good years at the end of his career with Buffalo, can’t be compared with Kelly and Josh.

Bottom line, no age limit for NFL officials. Tony Corrente retired in his 70s.a couple years ago. Blakeman, the head official in Bills-Chiefs is 60. Not saying it can’t be done by guys in their 60s but your eyesight, flexibility, upper body strength and endurance are diminished and these guys are not tested for the conditioning needed to manipulate 300lb players in frigid temperatures. Did you think that game was officiated properly? What is the argument?
-
Sounds like an obvious solution. The problem is the NFL will not admit to a placement being wrong because that would mean they are determining the outcome of a game with a flawed process. Then people will start thinking that a home crowd could influence this arbitrary system of placing the ball. Also why are two referees running into the play on different yard lines and one is deferring to the other. As we all know once a call is made it’s usually not changed.
-
The gambling angle is one of reasons why the referees would be so obviously incompetent. I don’t think they’re being compromised by betting interests but the system for ball placement promotes inaccuracy and the fact that they rarely change the call on the field diminishes the ability to change it with replays. It’s amateurish to ask elderly men stationed 20 yards from the ball to accurately place the ball which is camouflaged by 6 or 8 football players. It’s the easiest way to determine the outcome of a game.
-
The Chiefs won and Bills fans complaining about officiating is a bad look. Unfortunately the ball placements by these old guys, 20 yds away and camouflaged by 8 monstrous humans was obviously poor and lends itself to a bias accusation or at best just incompetence. Advancements in technology used in other sports coupled with the NFL’s undeniable connection to sports betting makes you wonder why team owners won’t call for a better system to give the game more credibility. The call denying Buffalo of the 1st down at the end of the game before KC kicked the winning FG was a game changing mistake that any objective observer could see and taints the outcomes of the biggest game of the year. If you’re going to push betting so hard like the NFL does, you would hope that Goodell would at least make a statement acknowledging the mistake and say they will explore a better system for placements.

Immediately if not sooner. He’s washed. Congrats on a great career.

Opinion: Bills SHOULD hire Doug Pederson as assistant HC
HamptonBillsfan replied to MrEpsYtown's topic in The Stadium Wall
It wasn’t the offense that prevented us from beating the Chiefs. We averaged close to 30 all year and Josh loves Brady’s play calling. Our defense didn’t play well and the Chiefs got 30 once all season in regulation. The Texans defense dominated their offense. We were supposedly rebuilding with a shuffled O line and without a #1 or #2 receiver. Winning 13 and 2 playoff games in his first full season is not grounds for bringing in a guy who crashed and burned for 2 teams calling plays. -

That’s right, demoralize Josh to turn our offense into the Jags who couldn’t win in a weak division and fired Doug’s ass. No thanks -
If Elam is back he’s just wasting a roster spot. Hamlin and Rapp are depth players and Bishop is still raw. We don’t need all three so Damar is odd man out. Douglas is a free agent and he’s history. The secondary hasn’t been good enough so it’s time to start again. A free agent corner and some quality high round defensive backs will probably do the trick.

Some of your points are well taken especially that we shouldn’t use the cap as an excuse not to take a big swing. First big decision is extending Rousseau. He showed growth and production in the regular season. Problem is he’ll want top 10 average per season, and he got stuffed against KC. I guess you need to get to the post season before thinking about KC. Miller, must leave immediately. Crosby loves Josh and seems like a perfect fit. If Carter and Smoot make strides along side Oliver, and we could add a Crosby, it might be enough. Beane would be reluctant to give up a first and you know Pete Carroll, would play hardball to trade his best player.

Confluence of a lot of things--Bills just didn't play well
HamptonBillsfan replied to jahnyc's topic in The Stadium Wall
Bills didn’t play well, but well enough to win. The coaching staff was inept on goal line play calls and went for 2 too early. The decision to throw on 3rd down to Cooper with a screen made no sense and the protection on the fourth down play was a killer. Other than those three things, they could have won. I’m not mentioning the blown call for a 1st down when they never measured and and placed the ball way behind where the linesman came in. What’s the difference, these games comes down to one or two plays. -
I never complained about officiating because usually the calls even out, but that phantom review of the 4th down QB push was a call that showed a linesman, with the best view of the ball, came forward way ahead of the line to gain. The ball was placed before where the lineman ran in, but still should have resulted in a 1st if they measured. They never did and turned the ball over to KC. Why can a tennis ball, traveling 90mph be spotted electronically and we rely on 70yr old freezing men, 20 yds away, placing a football buried under 8 huge players, that could determine the outcome of the game. The justification for the call is that ball placements almost never get changed. The NFL is in bed with sports betting and calls like these are the easiest way to get a result.
-
Nice analysis, agree with all your ratings. Rousseau is a tough one because he’s a a useful player, but with Beane’s incompetent apology we’re always behind the 8ball for acquisitions. Everything has to be done through the draft and on the cheap. It will be tough.

As long as you’re being sarcastic about my exaggeration, I’m good.

Once in regulation and why are you trying to say our defense played well. What’s the point you’re trying to make?
