It could trigger an eating disorder in Leh-nerd. 2. Kay’s Reactions to Leh-nerd’s Posts Were Wildly Emotional: 2-A. Causes: 2-A-1. Unmatched reciprocation: Kay doesn’t feel that the PPP denizens put in nearly the same level of effort and thought into their posts that she does, and she unfairly took this disappointment out on Leh-nerd. 2-A-2. Subpar MAGA reading comprehension: Kay’s fundamental frustrations go beyond reasonable left/right political disagreements and into the realm of discerning objective truths (logical, factual, scientific, economic, moral, etc.); regarding Leh-nerd in particular…some say** that Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Simple Man” was actually a song about none other than PPP’s own Leh-nerd Skin-erd. 2-B. Solutions: 2-B-1. Strive for emotional detachment: Kay needs to compose dispassionate PPP posts with the strict objective of mentally organizing her own political thoughts; the responses are secondary and not to be expected. 2-B-2. Improve communication skills: Kay needs to work on her conversational brevity and maybe increase her use of visual aids (i.e. lighthearted internet memes). 3. Miscellaneous Apologies: 3-A. Subforum hypocrisies: Leh-nerd is well-known at PPP for his jocular banter towards leftists, which oftentimes can be perceived as insult-laden. 4-B. Fat-shaming motivations: Hollywood actor and marginal rock star, Jared Leto, is Boomery like Leh-nerd and is still ridiculously attractive as ever because of his strict vegan diet (those doe eyes also help…and incidentally, in a thread-appropriate way, Leto kinda resembles Jesus!!). MAGA’s aren’t even thinking about the national debt whenever we’re in Trump Economy Stage “B.” Allow me to elucidate… Trump Economy Stage “A” = Tariffs go up, economy becomes anxious. Insists MAGA: “The manufacturing jobs are coming back! Tariffs will pay off most of the debt! Will we even need an income tax??” Trump Economy Stage “B” = Tariffs go down, economy stabilizes. Better trade deals to benefit Trump’s donors and friends. Exclaims MAGA: “Art of the deal, baby! Woo-hoo!” We generally oscillate between the two stages. I believe there’s a funny internet meme about this. Whoever is successfully riding these buy low/sell high waves is making a lot of money. The rollercoaster fun will eventually end, however, when international supply shocks kick in and stagflation features emerge.

That “global calm” you speak of is always a mirage, thanks to a corporate American media that rarely covers the asymmetrical power imposition of American imperialism. In other words: we rarely hear much about the collateral damage from U.S. drone strikes, the consequences of our sanctions and embargos on the citizens of other nations, and the attempted coups and regime changes throughout regions like the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. That concludes my general foreign policy diatribe…now getting back specifically to Trump… It’s kinda weird to give Trump credit for both the 2014 Crimea invasion and Russia’s 2022 Ukraine invasion not happening on his watch. The implication here is that Democrats are super weak, but Trump is super strong and super intimidating. If that’s the case, why is the Ukraine war still ongoing? Why do all leaked negotiation details tell of Ukraine’s significant resource concessions to the U.S., while the aggressor (Russia) is being asked to give up so little in terms of war reparations and conquered land?? Trump had FOUR whole years to withdraw from Afghanistan, but he didn’t because he has always been a puppet of the MIC. Trump had absolutely nothing to do with India/Pakistan. The chances of Trump successfully negotiating with Iran are extremely low. He was the one who pulled out of the JCPOA in 2018, so I doubt Iran has any remaining trust in him or in the United States (and we can’t blame them for that distrust). Israel/Palestine/Gaza…where to begin?! This is the mother of all complex peace deals, and the only realistic path to enduring success is with either a one-state or two-state solution (or three-state, if Gaza and the West Bank were to become separate nations). Israel, which has grown to become an extremely far-right society since the Second Intifada, is unfortunately steeped in genocidal mania right now. Only the U.S. can rein them in, but Trump is completely controlled by AIPAC and Zionist donors like Miriam Adelson. He continues speaking fondly of Gaza’s ethnic cleansing, continues ignoring the Leahy Laws by regularly sending munitions to the IDF, continues condoning settler violence in the West Bank, and continues doing absolutely nothing to stop the ongoing Gaza hunger crisis. Trump, in fact, did a lot during his first term that motivated the Hamas attack on 10/7/23: recognizing the annexation of the Golan Heights, moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem, and disrespecting Palestine via exclusion in the Abraham Accords. Trump COULD radically change course, I suppose, if he cares about not destroying his presidential legacy… And I didn’t even get into the topic of Yemen…ugh… Anyone who is a student of pro football history, by the way, already knew that Donald Trump was a total fraud. Ugh…you are probably correct: I shouldn’t be trivializing the dangerous precedent it sets to violate the Constitution without penalty, nor should I expect Trump to competently negotiate such a complex peace deal.

I’m afraid to say this, but I think I stand with the MAGA cultists on this one specific issue… No doubt, this is a flagrant example of government bribery and is unconstitutional. However, what is fundamentally the difference between this bribe and the AIPAC bribes (i.e. large campaign donations) that the rest of our country’s politicians routinely accept?? I’m thinking more pragmatically and cynically, with starving Gazans and Israeli hostages in mind. By accepting Qatar’s airplane gift, the hope is that Trump can be persuaded to directly negotiate with Hamas (thereby circumventing Netanyahu) and arrange a ceasefire peace deal that would include immediate food aid and the full release of hostages. Negotiating with terrorists may not lead to anything, either, but we know now that Israel has ZERO intentions of ending the current siege in Gaza. Their full intentions are to steal the land in Gaza, steal land in the West Bank, break the will of Palestinians, and fatigue the region to the point that nearby Arab countries finally relent and agree to accept Palestinian refugees.

I came here for the Bills schedule release talk, but here we go… To be clear: 16 weeks is the lowest theoretical limit at which scientists think auditory sensing can begin, and 12 weeks is the absolute lowest at which general sentience can begin. ~90% of all performed abortions fall within the first 12 weeks, ~95% fall within the first 16 weeks, and the remaining ~5% are mostly comprised of special situations related to the mother’s or baby’s health (as opposed to the “YOLO…like, whatevs!” kind). If accepting 15 weeks as a legal abortion limit makes me a “sick baby-murdering lib,” then polling data on this topic indicates A LOT of centrists, independents, conservatives, Christians, and Catholics to be at least equally as “sick.” Also, a very clear distinction needs to be made between what someone may personally believe and what that person is willing to legally impose on others. If you want to talk about “sick” beliefs, let’s talk about the following: forcing a woman (or child!) to give birth to her rapist’s baby, removing the social safety net for unprepared mothers forced to give birth, and systematically starving children in an ongoing genocide/ethnic cleansing in Gaza. Strange how we choose to demarcate our empathic and punitive thoughts, no?? It’s almost as if concern for the fetus/unborn baby/child isn’t quite the morally compelling force that we assume?? What evolutionary biology and anthropology (and economics!) tell us is that female fecundity is a highly valued “resource” and is subject to “market regulations” like any other economic good or service. Those who seek to regulate are seeking to adjust a supply/demand curve. I’ll return to abortion and transgender rights in a second, but first… Your conspicuous failure to acknowledge the genocide in Gaza I find most unconscionable. As soon as the first Gazan hospital was “oopsied” out of existence, you guys should have started to realize that Israel’s response to 10/7/23 was about so much more than hostages or self-defense. Read up on the 1948 Nakba, Israeli apartheid practices since 1967, Israel’s history of bad-faith negotiations since the First Intifada, the ongoing settler colonial violence in the West Bank, and the full details in South Africa’s ICJ report to figure it all out. Anyone who still can’t distinguish between anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism, or between Hamas support and Palestine support, needs to do more learning and less opining. 19 months into this genocide, both Netanyahu and Trump have replaced the ethnic cleansing dog whistles with foghorns. France has the best abortion policy, so I would prefer we plagiarize theirs (limit of 15 weeks, constitutional protection, full list of exceptions to be adjudicated by health professionals and not law/order ones). The Catholic Church’s position against abortion in cases of rape is a big initial reason why I chose to quit the Church…something about two wrongs not making a right…ugh… My opinion on transgender rights is also rooted in science and sprinkled with respect for fellow humans who happen to be born a bit differently. Just as we have human sexual dimorphism with chromosomes and reproductive equipment, we know of the same with the morphology and functioning of the human brain. So you can think of the brain as a gender-determining organ just like you do the sexual reproductive organs, and all of these can be incongruent with each other at birth. I’m fine with transgender children fully transitioning, provided they have parental approval and sufficient levels of prior therapy. I’m friends with a few members of the transgender community. According to them, they knew they were different at extremely early points in their lives. OH MY GOD, LEH-NERD!! What makes you think Jesus in 2025 would be apolitical?? And why do you think Jesus would find Bernie to be such a malevolent force on humanity, one presumably far worse than Trump?! Some in media circles already are, though, which was my point. I’m referring strictly to their ECONOMIC politics, of course, and nothing else. Specifically: standard progressive protectionism versus Trump’s current tariff policies. You and I may find the conflation absurd, but the average American doesn’t follow politics nearly as closely as we do. Corporate establishment propaganda can be disturbingly effective on such people. Do you understand now? Or do you want me to clarify my thoughts? I was basically providing commentary on political strategy and on how the word “socialism” is being misconstrued for the purposes of propaganda. To elaborate a bit further, think of American politics as divided into 4 factions: far-left populist progressives who tend to vote for Democrats, centrist establishment neoliberals who also tend to vote for Democrats, MAGA dullards, and libertarians who tend to vote for Republicans. As Trump’s economy collapses and Bernie’s “Fighting Oligarchy Tour” surges in popularity, the other two factions (neoliberals and libertarians) seek to fill the power void by associating both populist factions (MAGA dullards and Bernie progs) with the unpopular economy. Progressives should NOT rely on an emergent economic depression to counter the propaganda. They need to figure out how to communicate effectively with the American people. Even though I’m (apparently) not the best consultant on such matters, I’ll still recommend a simple visual display of two superimposed plots: one showing American worker productivity since the early Reagan administration, and another showing inflation-adjusted wage growth in that same time span. The observed difference in slope is the labor exploitation of the American Neoliberal Era. In theory, market socialism would eliminate the difference in slope. In practice, progressive taxation policies (as guided by professional economists) can suffice.

Yup, that’s a promising initial list. Christian precepts do tend to align well with modern American progressive politics. In present-day America, Jesus would far more likely be seen wearing a Bernie Bro t-shirt than he would be seen sporting a red MAGA hat. Single-payer health care? Yes. Universal human rights? Absolutely. Concern for the poor? You got it! Labor exploitation? I mean…”thou shalt not steal,” right? American imperialism? “Love thy neighbor,” no? Environmental stewardship? Respect the Garden of Eden!! Something is conspicuously missing on that list, though… Pope Leo XIV needs to be as vociferously opposed to Israel’s genocide in Gaza as was the late Pope Francis. If he isn’t, I don’t think the Catholic Church can survive much longer as any sort of serious international moral authority. You can’t showcase your morality as your entire business model and then NOT take a definitive stance against collective punishment and ethnic cleansing!! Many here, of course, will (correctly) point to all the historical corruption and all the controversies the Catholic Church has already endured. Its woefully inadequate stance against the Holocaust will surely be mentioned, too. I would then just reply that the landscape of ethical expectations from human civilization is vastly different in the twenty-first century than it was over the previous two millennia. Also, in the specific case of the Holocaust, I believe Pope Pius XII was genuinely afraid of Hitler invading the Vatican in retaliation (not that this excuses the cowardice, but you get my point…). It’s not, though! We can’t just redefine socialism to mean “any government economic interventionism that we don’t like” or “a centrally planned economy.” In Trump’s economy, the workers definitely don’t own the means of production. Corporate oligarchs still have all the power and control the flow of wealth generation. Moreover, I automatically distrust the motives of any neoliberal or libertarian author attempting to equate Trump’s economy with socialism. Most Americans still associate the social democratic policies of Bernie/AOC with that of “socialism,” and so the (inevitable) failure of Trump’s economy can then somehow be blamed on the Democratic Party’s progressive wing. It’s quite the predictable ploy we have grown to expect from our country’s corporate media! Let’s all be clear on how progressive tariffs would differ from Trumpian tariffs. A three-stage plan from progressives: 1. Carefully crafted prior labor regulations that foster an environment for competitive wage growth and healthy work conditions. 2. Keynesian stimulus packages to expedite foundational shovels-in-the-ground projects and workforce training (a good example: 2022 CHIPS Act). 3. Targeted tariffs applied to a specific and limited set of overseas industries (chosen for reasons like national security and domestic macroeconomic growth balance). And by comparison, a three-stage plan from Trump: 1. Broad tariffs imposed on every country and trade ally, with nonsensical and often exorbitant rates. 2. Nose picking as prices predictably soar and markets collapse. 3. Removal of tariff impositions, accompanied with braggadocious “art of the deal” claims. Two key reasons why you should have known all along that Trump was an economic charlatan: 1. He thinks trade “deficits” are inherently bad, as if this kind of deficit is in any way similar to a personal/family budgetary “deficit!” 2. He claims his tariffs are to be used for tax revenue generation, even though successfully applied tariffs are intended to do the exact opposite…INHIBIT international consumption of goods! Kay’s Super Profound Conclusion: So what’s REALLY going on here?? Well, some people in America are certainly benefiting from Trump’s economic machinations! In the progressive vernacular, these people are referred to as “corporate oligarchs.” Others will be much worse off, due to the regressive taxation effect of widespread price inflation on consumer goods (followed by macroeconomic contraction). Let’s call this group the “99%.” So now Little Susie gets 3 dolls for her birthday instead of 30, Little Joey gets 5 pencils for school instead of 250, and Commie Kay gets maybe only a few dozen Squishmallows (at most) for her new queen size bed instead of THOUSANDS. I think I speak for Susie and Joey when I say, “BLEEP you, MAGA Commies!!!”

Small correction: the 1966 AFL title game against the Chiefs was the only Buffalo home playoff game (other than Sunday night’s Ravens game) in which they were ever a Vegas underdog (+3.5). Your post reminds me of a very important question I had always been meaning to ask this message board: whatever happened to all the AFL game film of our beloved AFL Bills?? At NFL Films headquarters? Tucked away somewhere in Bills franchise archives? ABC broadcast archives (for 1960-1964)? NBC broadcast archives (for 1965-1969)? There are 144 games in total. I ask because I would like to eventually see a grassroots movement emerge to get our AFL legends senior committee consideration for the Pro Football Hall of Fame: Gilchrist, Saimes, Byrd, Stratton, and ESPECIALLY Sestak. Actual game film can make the case that basic stats cannot. As an amateur internet Bills historian (and fashion enthusiast!), I’ll give this one a shot: 1. No idea. I think capri pants were popular in Hollywood at that time. I’ve seen old pics of Audrey Hepburn wearing them, at least. 2. I’ve read persuasive arguments from pro football historians making the claim that the AFL had mostly caught up to the NFL in talent by the mid-60’s, and that only Lombardi’s Packers dynasty far exceeded the talent of the best AFL teams. Up to a certain talent differential, the right X’s and O’s can surpass the Jimmy’s and Joe’s. Such is the mantra of “any given Sunday” in professional football. So while the NFL would have likely won the imaginary Super Bowls of 1960-1962 and 1965, the 1963 Chargers would have matched up well with the 1963 Bears. Likewise, the 1964 Bills could have absolutely defeated the 1964 Browns! The speed and physicality and creativity of Joe Collier’s defense, coupled with Cookie’s running style and the novel AFL-style vertical passing game, could have easily flummoxed the Browns. 3. VERY cool. Your mind was apparently associating Cookie’s number with that of another Bills Hall of Fame RB! Small correction: that legendary 17-game streak ran from week 7 of 1964 through week 8 of 1965.

Actually, WNY is believed to be the farthest northeast extent of the American bison’s original habitat range. It is true that Upstate NY had been heavily forested ever since the glaciers retreated, and that bison prefer open ranges, but they would have been able to roam along the banks of rivers and the coastlines of lakes. IMO, the strongest origin theory behind our city’s name is the one I remember reading in high school that concerned a language translational mix-up between the Haudenosaunee and the Europeans. It happened during one of those treaty signings of the Revolutionary War era that totally screwed over Native Americans. I, myself, am the leading proponent of the idea that our beloved Buffalo Bills are named after a fictional crossdressing serial killer who had it out for “great big fat people.”

Fun fact: the Buffalonian tradition of greeting our pro football team at the airport goes as far back as December 12, 1948! On that day, thousands had arrived to cheer the Buffalo Bills of the All-America Football Conference (AAFC) after they defeated the AAFC’s Baltimore Colts in the first round of the playoffs. This happened to be the first ever road playoff victory for a Buffalo pro football team (and the city’s first pro football playoff game since 1919). That particular AAFC franchise went defunct a season later, but its noticeably fervent fan support is what later inspired Ralph Wilson to place his new AFL franchise in Buffalo. LOVE the discussion of that 1980 Bills team, by the way! I wish more people would talk about the Ferguson era Bills. Too many Bills fans, sadly, think the franchise’s history doesn’t begin until Jim Kelly arrived.

Furthermore, hardly any progressives in the country still support “Defund the Police” policies, contrary to right-wing media claims. It hasn’t been popular within far-left circles since 2021. 2. Immigration: Likewise, I won’t defend because I’m a centrist on this topic. Those who had properly sifted through the media rhetoric would have found that Harris did, in fact, run as a moderate here. 3. Transgender rights: the details concerning child transitioning and sports participation are the only reasonable sub-topics to debate; everything else is part of a greater American moral bankruptcy, that of bigotry rooted in scientific illiteracy and lack of familiar association, which needs to be rectified. Harris actively avoided talking about this topic, by the way; right-wing media personalities are the ones who obsessed over it. 4. Free speech: neither side is fully principled in this regard, depending on the particular topic of protected speech. MAGA, for example, seems to have developed a lust for shutting down peaceful protests against Israel’s genocide. 5. Unrestricted abortion: I’m 100% with the farthest of the far-leftists here. Keeping the American legal system completely out of the decision-making process between prospective mothers and health professionals is the safest course of action for victims of rape, i n c e s t, and reproduction-related medical complications. I’ll always prioritize the interests of the already born over those of the unborn. Those who don’t are people who probably think of females as nothing more than walking incubators with up to three entertainment holes. If you’re morally uncomfortable with abortion after 12 weeks (the earliest theoretical point of fetal pain recognition), as I am, then pray for these mothers and try to persuade them to carry the fetus to term. But forcing a woman to give birth, against her will, often leads to terrible outcomes for both the woman and for society as a whole. 6. Inflation causes and remedies: Probably the #1 reason why Bernie’s triad coalition of Gen Z/Millennials, the working class, and Latinos blew up on the Democratic Party in 2024. No one among the far-left or center-left did a good enough job articulating the causes; Biden, meanwhile, did next to nothing to alleviate its impact. Oof. I already discussed this topic in depth a while back, but I can provide links later to my earlier posts on inflation for those who care to read. Summary: had little to do with U.S. energy policy, government pandemic stimulus, or irresponsible monetary policy. The bulk of it was related to transportation logistics and oligopoly price gouging. Bread-and-butter issues that actually challenged the corporate oligarchy were ignored in favor of frivolous fixations with Trump’s personality. Or to put it in classical Marxism-Leninism terms, I suppose: the bourgeoise stopped listening to the proletariat, and the proletariat responded by either staying home or turning to Trump. It would also be remiss of me to not add Israel’s ongoing genocide to the critical list of issues that Harris ignored. Progressives and Muslim-Americans responded accordingly, particularly in the blue Midwest firewall. Keep in mind that Gaza has been polling at enormous party electorate interest levels and is, thus, far removed from the panoply of boutique political issues. I’m fine with some of these enumerated policy sections: “trade policy,” “border control,” “space and innovation,” “respect meritocracy,” and “kill bureaucracy.” The laughable idea, however, of RFK Jr. directing vaccine and health policy certainly fits the anti-science and pro-conspiracy nature of the MAGA movement. Crypto regulation is good, though cryptocurrencies are terrible for the environment (as if MAGA cares about that…). Regarding the “U.S. A.I.” section, I work peripherally in the microelectronics industry and can tell you that the GOP’s agenda to repeal the CHIPS and Science Act (as admitted by House Speaker, Mike Johnson) would be devastating to our country’s tech goals (as well as our national security objectives). I personally advocate only for social democracy at the national level, although I’ll also note that we do have plenty of evidence of democratic socialism succeeding at the very local level and for specific economic goods markets. Point # 5 is absolutely a call for greater government involvement in the American health care system. But if you somehow consider the adoption of something like a universal health care system as the acceptance of socialism, then you are also conceding that LITERALLY THE REST OF THE INDUSTRIALIZED COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD are thriving bastions of socialism. Point # 8, on its surface, is simply about accepting a well-established subfield of the natural sciences. While the usual discursive corollary to this is a necessary call for more government intervention into the free markets (in the form of publicly funded R+D, energy/transportation public works projects, Keynesian stimulus bills for select companies, etc.), so to properly address the magnitude of the climate crisis in a timely manner, this is all still a far cry from a call for actual socialism. FEC (2010). They don’t seem all too perturbed that post-2016 Trump now embraces the concept of billionaires purchasing government power. 2. American imperialism: MAGA claims they are anti-war and against the MIC, but they also embraced various “might-makes-right” Trumpian foreign policies against not-white-enough peoples: thousands of Middle East drone strikes, keeping troops in Afghanistan, bombing Syria repeatedly, occupying countries over oil, provocatory assassinations of Iranian generals, organized coups in Venezuela, backing a Saudi-led Yemen genocide, etc… And what about reducing the bloated military budget?? Nope! “We need to maintain only the bestest, most tremendous military,” insist Trump and his acolytes. 3. Gaza: This issue is really just an extension of the broader American imperialism that MAGA idiots and Trump embrace. When you are a Judeo-Christian supremacist and an Islamophobe, Zionism is second nature to you. Apartheid practices, collective punishment war crimes, ethnic cleansing, and genocide are all rationalized. The Leahy Laws are ignored. Illegally occupying Gaza, the West Bank, East Jerusalem, the Golan Heights, and now southern Lebanon are all condoned. Trump’s contributions, ultimately, to October 7 are conveniently forgotten (exiting the JCPOA, moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, mediating the Abraham Accords, and recognizing the Golan Heights annexation). 4. But let’s note only the most recent example of their foolishness: their blind support of Trump’s high tariffs/zero income tax idea, which is straight out of the famously progressive utopian era that was America’s Gilded Age. Even if one were to explain the blatantly regressive nature of this plan to these Austrian school sycophants, they’d probably just shrug their shoulders and tell you, “Meh. Go, like, pick yourself up from your bootstraps. Or something.” 5. Health care: Is your family overwhelmed with medical debt? Are you dying from cancer because you can’t afford treatment? Stuck in a terrible job because you’re afraid to lose your health care plan? “Too bad,” says MAGA. “F*ck off and die.” We’re all still waiting on Trump’s amazing health care plan, by the way. LOL… 6. Abortion: Simply put, you are every bit a “garbage” human being if you are okay with women in certain states being legally forced to carry their rapist’s fetus to term. Moreover, you are not very smart if you don’t understand exactly how legal abortions well beyond the first trimester (i.e. keeping reproductive health decisions strictly between a mother and her health care professionals, not the government) are necessary for prioritizing a mother’s health, life, and general safety. 7. Transgender rights: People who can understand science can understand that the concept of gender identity is linked to the gender-determining morphology and function of the human brain. In the vast majority of humans, this particular gender identity marker also happens to match the sex determined by that person’s chromosomes and reproductive equipment. For MAGA, however, science is really really hard; bigotry and bullying, meanwhile, are super duper fun! 8. Anthropogenic global warming: El. Oh. El. For many people, middle school earth science was a trivial endeavor. For MAGA, both their cognitive limitations and their complete disregard for negative externalities invite a horrifying (yet admittedly highly entertaining!) array of delightfully grand conspiracies. Yep, this is basically what I’m predicting. More specifically, I have Harris winning 287 to 251 in electoral votes (i.e., all seven swing states minus Georgia and North Carolina). Two basic reasons why: 1. I’m expecting a systemic overperformance in the polls very similar to what was observed during the 2022 midterms, fueled by unmarried women’s opposition to Dobbs v. Jackson WHO plus independent voters’ revulsion to January 6 election results denialism. 2. Trump’s overreliance on low-propensity voter demographics (mostly male ones). Lots of mainstream political analysts seem to be forgetting that voter preference doesn’t fully equate to voter enthusiasm.
