Watts can really ball.
-
I feel like the good teams who win super bowls tend to lend more towards BPA…but I will say that I think Beane really does it backwards. Top of the draft should always be BPA. You can use the rest of the draft to plug holes. He plugs holes early and drafts BPA later. I truly believe that is why he has done well later in the draft.
-
I feel like most try to predict what Beane will do. And this is what he would do. I voted for Amos, obviously not knowing if Porter would be here. I suppose my question is, if we took Nolen and Porter was gone here, then what do we do? Is Dane Jackson is your starting corner. Draft time is fun and it’s a crapshoot! It’s a fun exercise to go through! But I think the biggest thing is what the boards mindset is…are we predicting what we think will happen and what Beane will do? Are we taking BPA? Or we just taking the guy we like? I think all three of those mindsets would result in a very different experience.

I don’t think they think too much long term here. They fill immediate needs. They paid a corner so now they need a cheap corner to play opposite him. That has to come high in the draft. Beane talks about value, but it’s BS GM speak. He drafts for need. In terms of how this mock is going and how the board thinks, I think there are a couple of different philosophies on the board with these mocks. Some people pick who they think the Bills would pick. Some people pick who they like and would pick. And some look at the consensus lists and take BPA. Honestly with this being a weak draft, unless you can get into the top 10-15, you really are just drafting for need from the start. It sucks, but that’s what this is shaping up to be. There is a lot of lack of impact here and anyone hoping for some huge move is probably lying to themselves. They will draft a corner and a DT high. Probably get an edge somewhere and draft and RB somewhere. It’s the MO of this front office.

Nolen, Sanders, Williams, Alexander, Collins were the defensive tackles who went after “we” drafted Amos. So I suppose the question is would we rather have one of those guys at 30 and Porter here? Because unfortunately both the corner and DT positions have kind of dried up in this mock draft and it feels pretty realistic in my opinion. The hope is 3 QBs go, some WRs get over drafted, and there is a run on RBs and Tight ends. That seems to be the only path to high end talent dropping.

He checks a lot of boxes. -
I’m probably taking Farmer in this situation, but seems like Watts is BPA imo.

Bills halt contract negotiations with Cook

At worst you bring him back a year, he crushes it and you franchise him. -

I agree! But I think that with a championship-caliber team here and 1 starting corner on the roster, that is a tough risk to take. If they signed a guy like Asante Samuel or even a Gilmore type to a 1 year deal and drafted Revel to be the replacement next year, then I think it makes a ton of sense. -

My problem with Revel is he is coming off a torn ACL. As currently constructed we need a guy who can come in a start day 1 and that's not really him. So I think I am out on him. It seems like the plug-and-play guys with zone acumen who will likely be available at the Bills pick are Hairston and Amos. I suppose the question is are you getting value taking them at 30? Who knows? -
Yep just like they will be chasing a corner. It's deja vu. I am interested to see what corners are still on the board when we get to our second pick. That would add some context to what we did in round 1 here.

Need more content for the Hallmark movie -
They got back what they spent on him and he is very unlikely to play at all. Teams don't seem to buy into BS preseason stats anymore. With a whole new draft class of QBs coming in, it feels like NE is kinda getting something for him before the draft comes. I like Milton a lot and I disagree with the move, but I understand why they did it.
-
This is probably true. Yeah I think it's the above statement. His value is as high as it will get probably. I also think that NE is eliminating competition. Everytime Maye screws up, fans and Boston paper will be pining for Milton. Now he's gone. I don't agree with it, because competition breeds success. But I get it.

TSW 1.0 Poll - Who should the Bills select at #30 (Poll Closed)
MrEpsYtown replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
My opinion on the defensive line discussion is that we just need good players who make an impact. I think we get a little too hung up on the 1 tech, 3 tech thing. Don't get me wrong, I do not think we should be looking for another 280 lb DT, but just get guys who penetrate and make plays. Guys like Chris Jones and Jalen Carter line up all over the place and dominate. It is similar to the WR discussion from last year about #1s and X receivers and all that....it doesn't matter, just draft impact players. The bottom line is that this regime is very conservative. They draft for need high. They rotate a million defensive linemen in a way that drafting one high doesn't make a ton of sense if he is playing 20% of the snaps. I get it, the Eagles do it too. But Jalen Carter plays like 85% of the snaps on that team. Find a dude and let him play. I guess my point is that if they draft a DT high, I hope he is a dude and stays on the field. But Beane is drafting a corner because he drafts for need. Also, he just paid Benford, so he is going to look for a cheap starter to play opposite Benford for the next 4 years with that 5th year option. It's fine, but everyone knows they are drafting a corner and they need to hit on it. The reason he stinks early in the draft and does a nice job late in the draft is that later in the draft he seems to actually take BPA. There isn't much rhyme or reason to it, it's just pure BPA. That's how you wind up with guys like Shakir and Benford. I wish he would take the same approach at the top of the draft. His early drafting is deliberate and predictable. -
TSW 1.0 Poll - Who should the Bills select at #30 (Poll Closed)
MrEpsYtown replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
You have a point, but Sapp and Moss stuff was over smoking pot. Moss had a history of being a bad teammate. It seems the Green stuff is a little different on the off-field concerns spectrum. This regime will not touch that guy. -
TSW 1.0 Poll - Who should the Bills select at #30 (Poll Closed)
MrEpsYtown replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
Unless something changes on this roster, they are drafting a corner in the first round. Anyone who thinks any differently are likely lying to themselves. It’s a massive need and Beane seems to leave one huge position of need for the draft every year. It’s been his MO. Convincing ourselves that he drafts BPA is just not true. Now which corner it is, who knows…but it’s going to be a corner imo and Amos fits what they look for. -
And just to add to the punt discussion, Miami signed Ryan Stonehouse. So there will be a competition between he and Jake Bailey. If this Camarda-Robbins battle does not work out, one of those two guys likely shakes loose. Dolphins new special team coach comes from the Titans, so it seems likely that Bailey is gone with some cap savings as well.
-
He seems to outkick his coverage and doesn't have that savvy, which was a concern coming out. Jake Camarda was a much better prospect coming out, so if he makes it for us, the whole Araiza saga comes full circle in a way that feels somewhat okay with me.
-
Watching his press conference, this dude has been through some stuff and seems very appreciative of what he has earned from hard work and dedication to the craft and thanks those few people who really believed in him along the way. There is some tremendous pain in those eyes. I am happy for him.
-
David Shannahan, left footer, former Gaelic footballer. Checks some boxes. But to me this is Camarda’s job to lose. Beane did say they were very high on him in the draft. He had two really good years and struggled this year and was cut. He’s a great athlete and there is upside there. Robbins feels like a nothing burger.
