I believe it was the most yards allowed in NFL playoff history in a Victory
The DEF got torched that game.
We were the first team in NFL history to allow 450+ yards with 0 forced turnovers and still win a game (regular or postseason).
Luckily for us Rivers missed an open WR on 4th and goal, and their kicker doinked a 33 yarder off the upright.

That’s great. He barely made the top 3rd of the leagues coaches. He only needed the 2nd best player in football to do it.
Top 10 returning head coaches. As there are only 25 returning head coaches McD did not in fact make the top 3rd.

I'll take the under. He's only topped 9 in a season once.
Josh has put up 8, 9, 8, 6, 7, and 15 rushing TDs by season.

I'm taking the over, but think its close.
Last year totals
Dawson - 22
Dalton - 73
Dawson put up a career low in a season where he missed 4 games due to injury, and was probably limited by the injury in a fair number of games he did play in.
Dalton had a very promising rookie season with 7th most catches by a TE for the year.
I think Dalton will become a better player from year 1 to year 2 and in combination with Diggs/Davis leaving he'll get a higher target share to end up with 90 catches.
I'm a huge Dawson hater but even I think he can make it to 20+ catches.

3 guys that combined for 11.5 sacks last year?
I'm SLAMMING the under on this
I'd put the o/u at 15

Over the last 4 seasons with Allen we've averaged 12 regular season wins and have 5 total playoff wins.
I think Cousins with the exact rosters we've had (minus Allen) would have more like 9 or 10 regular season wins per year and MAYBE 1 playoff win. While I think Cousins is good enough to beat the Skylar Thompson Dolphins or the TJ Watt-less Steelers, he wouldn't have gotten us the 2 seed to host those teams.
There's also the salary cap consideration that Cousins has been getting PAID since 2020 and Josh was on his rookie contract (until the most recent season) so the roster would've been noticeably worse. That would easily knock another win off per season

IDK I didn’t like Dunne’s vibe here.
Guy is a hater. Whoever made Beane do this interview, don’t give him anymore.
I thought he asked a few borderline tough questions, but didn't seem to push it and came across as respectful. I'd much rather see reporters ask questions like this than just another fluff piece

Finished super rocky last season. Didn't even feel good about his XPs. They were always slicing/hooking. Anything above 40 yards felt like 50/50. Seems like he started of the season decently. I would be curious on his percentage on his last 20 attempts.
Started the year 9/9.
Then he missed 2 FG (a 52 and 53 yarder) against the Giants in week 6 which very nearly cost us the game.
McD lost faith in him after that and chose to punt instead of attempt 50+ yard FGs multiple times.
After the 9/9 start Bass went 15/20 in the regular season and a mind boggling 2/5 in the playoffs.
I think he would've already been released by now if it weren't for the ridiculous contract Beane gave him.

I wonder how different the narrative around Josh would be if he was a stat chaser.
He had 5+ turnovers last year on plays that either did not hurt us (arm punts) or he had no other choice (last play of Patriots game or 4th down against Dolphins).
It's like Josh has a switch in his head to turn on 100% HERO BALL when the situation calls for it and he couldn't care less if it's a turnover that hurts his MVP chances.
I realize other QBs will throw arm punt INTs or have a hail mary intercepted, but nobody is remotely close to the number of turnovers Josh has on plays like that.
Imagine if Josh threw the ball away or ate a sack on 4th down like Lamar '2x MVP' Jackson did in a miserable 10-17 loss to the Steelers this season. Wouldn't help the Bills at all but would've helped his personal turnover number.
4th & 2 at PIT 23
(0:13 - 2nd) (No Huddle, Shotgun) L.Jackson pass incomplete deep right to Z.Flowers [C.Holcomb].
4th & 7 at BAL 28
(0:15 - 4th) (Shotgun) L.Jackson sacked at BLT 22 for -6 yards (T.Watt). PENALTY on PIT-T.Watt, Unsportsmanlike Conduct, 15 yards, enforced between downs.
Or if he wanted to pad yardage late in the 4th Q down multiple scores like MVP hopeful Brock Purdy. 49ers were down 31-17 with 12 seconds left and Purdy threw back to back dump offs for 69 yards. The next time Josh does something like that would be the first of his career.
1st & 10 at SF 20
(0:12 - 4th) (Shotgun) B.Purdy pass short left to C.McCaffrey pushed ob at SF 48 for 28 yards (J.Tufele).
1st & 10 at SF 48
(0:04 - 4th) (Shotgun) B.Purdy pass short right to R.McCloud pushed ob at CIN 11 for 41 yards (D.Hill). Penalty on SF-S.Burford, Ineligible Downfield Pass, declined.
If Josh cared about stats he would've had at least 5 fewer turnovers and at least 100+ yards of garbage time dumpoffs.
Everything else remaining the same do you think he wins MVP last year?

meh, the Chiefs played the tough Jets defense (who I think we can all agree are better than the Bills defense in that playoff game) and ran out a 7:24 clock starting from the Jets 47.
They even got the ball at the Jets 24 with 2:50 left and ended the game with the Jets having 3 TO’s.
I don’t think it’s that big of an ask.
I do agree that relying on the offense to be perfect is silly, we should just surround Josh with so much offensive weaponry that a very good performance is like a 38-40 point outing.
The bottom line is scoring a TD early is a loss. Kicking a FG is a loss. That makes them the wrong play. Period.
The Chiefs had a 23-20 lead when they got the ball back with 7+ minutes left. They had the lead so the main priority is to drain the clock.
Don't forget that Mahomes threw a terrible INT on 3rd and 20 and got absolutely bailed out by the refs with a garbage DPI call.
How often does a trailing team score a go-ahead TD with no time left on the clock after a 7+ minute drive? I'd be surprised if it happens more than once or twice in any given season

What about mahomes having his worst winning percentage against the Buffalo Bills?
We've been decimated with injuries when we play them in playoffs
That narrative is so over-blown. We were decimated by injuries ONCE out of the 3 playoff losses.

I have to think we let him walk in FA.
As a general rule RBs are not worth 2nd contracts and Cook has enough warts in his game I'm more than happy to let him walk to get a comp pick

We already have Von Miller on the team, we just need to ask his girlfriend how to get out of choke-holds.

You are right. I did miss that one. For some reason I mistakenly had it listed as being on first down. I have fixed the original post to correct for this.
A bit strange that the three "arm punts" all happened with in five games of each other. I wonder if the coaches talked to him about it.
And for what it's worth in the Jaguars game Diggs was actually open. Allen made a decent throw and it got wrestled away from Diggs

There's been a lot of talk about how many of Josh Allen's interceptions are just as good as punts. I was curious as to how true this is so I looked at the data for the last two seasons. To summarize, the idea of a "arm punt" is greatly exaggerated, only 2 out of 32 interceptions met my criteria as an arm punt. Details are given below:
I counted an arm punt as (1) at least 3rd down (2) outside field goal range (outside opponent's 40 yard line) (3) intercepted at least 35 yards past the line of scrimmage (4) at least 5 yards to go. This last criteria is because I find it hard to believe that if you need less than 5 yards to get a first down, the best option is to throw it 40 yards downfield.
For the 2023 season with 18 interceptions, 7 were on 1st down, 4 were on 2nd down, 6 on 3rd down, and 1 on 4th down. Out of these last 7, only 2 on the interceptions meet the criteria:
Game 1 vs Jets 3rd and 8 from the Bills 31, intercepted 60 yards down field
Game 5 vs Jaguars 3rd and 15 from the Bills 41, intercepted 52 yards down field.
All the other 3rd down interceptions went less than 16 yards pass the line of scrimmage (2 were with the line of scrimmage in field goal range). The 4th down pass was from the Dolphin 35 and was a 4th and 2.
For the 2022 season with 14 interceptions, 3 were on 1st down, 6 were on 2nd down, 4 were on 3rd down and 1 was on 4th down. None of the 3rd and 4th down interceptions went further than 20 yards pass the line of scrimmage and 2 of the 3rd down interceptions.
Of course, there are other reasons why an interception is justifiable, for example, 1 of the 2023 interceptions was a hail mary and you can argue you have to force it on 4th down but I don't feel the arm punt excuse is valid.
You missed this one
3rd & 20 at BUF 40
(6:27 - 3rd) (Shotgun) J.Allen pass deep left intended for G.Davis INTERCEPTED by K.Fuller at WAS 19. K.Fuller to WAS 19 for no gain (G.Davis). WAS-K.Fuller was injured during the play.
I remember a post on Reddit someone put together a list for the top 5 least damaging INTs of the season for the entire league. Josh had 3 of the top 5. So yea, throwing 3 arm punt INTs over the season isn't some huge number, but when Josh has thrown more of those than the rest of the league combined I think it's a fair thing to bring up.

Start enforcing false start penalties correctly.
It drives me nuts watching tackles move ~2 seconds before the snap and the refs don't call it (most of the time) because the guy is "adjusting his back foot". The back foot adjustment is NOT part of the written rule.
Lane 'false starts every play' Johnson is making a HOF career out of it.
-
Josh is 6 foot 5 and freakishly athletic. It's not crazy to say he could be a contributing bench player. Give him a few years of professional level training and he might even be pretty decent.

What evidence do you have to suggest that Von Miller is a washed up bum???
I'm confused. Are you putting out that state about 10+ sacks for 35+ players because you think it proves something? If it does, I think it proves my point more than yours.
Evidence?
You do realize Von Miller played in 14 games (including playoffs) last season?
It's understandable if you didn't notice that he was playing...the man was a ghost out there and finished the season with 3 tackles and no sacks.
Watching him in any of those games should be all the evidence anyone needs to know he's a washed up bum.

Yeah... this line of argument is silly. It looks at age in a vacuum rather than looking at the player individually.
He was fantastic at 33 when he was on the field and healthy at 33. Last season was the year he was "coming off a major knee injury." At this point... what is at the moment 1 1/2 years separate from that injury and will be almost 2 full years separate from that injury once the season starts, I don't even think the injury is a factor in this equation. It's entirely age. And I've given my argument about the age thing already. He showed no signs of slowing down last time he was on the field and healthy in 2022 at 33 years old.
4.5??? Wanna make a friendly wager that he gets more than that?
There's a BIG difference between age 33 and age 35 for edge rushers. If statmuse is correct there's been 19 seasons in NFL history where a player age 35+ had 10+ sacks.
There's also a big difference between 10+ sacks and the 4.5 line I came up with.
Von Miller is a washed up bum though so i'll take the under.
Wager: 100 units of pride
I'll bump the thread in January to celebrate if I win, or earlier If I lose to eat some crow.

I don't think Von wins DPOY, but I actually think the "Von is over-the-hill" narrative is head-scratching.
Throw out his play from last season. History says that players take more than a full calendar year to fully recover from an ACL tear and often closer to 2 full calendar years to round back into form. We saw that happen with Tre White and it happens time and time again with players in the NFL.
So the only argument regarding Von is his age. @GunnerBill said this offseason that Von is washed and he thinks there's something like a 5% chance Von has any impact on the team this year. That's really the way almost everyone feels. He's a complete afterthought.
Do you guys not remember how Von was playing up until that Thanksgiving game in 2022???? It's not like he showed any signs of age whatsoever. The guy had 8 sacks in 11 games and was still a game-wrecker. Didn't look like a 33 year old pass rusher in any way.
We know he works. We know he wants to win. And we know he believes in himself.
I think Von is going to have a very productive season this year. He may not get double digit sacks, but as a DPR I could absolutely see him getting 6-10 sacks.
The Von Miller that had 8 sacks in 11 games was 'only' 33 years old and was not coming off a major knee injury.
The 2024 Von Miller is 35 years old and coming off a major knee injury.
I'd put the betting line for his sack total on the season at 4.5

10-11 regular season record in games that Allen didn't start (every game in 2017 and weeks 1, 7, 8, 9, 10 in 2018). 2018 had starts by Peterman, Derek Anderson, and Matt Barkley.
0-1 in the playoffs w/o Allen.
For the record we did win a game that Peterman started - the snow game against the Colts! The PeterMan got knocked out in the 2nd half and replaced by Joe Webb.
Ironically I think 2017 and 2018 are McD's best seasons as a coach. Those are the only years he had the team outperform its talent level.
