Tuesday August 29th is the NFL Cut Down Day
ColoradoBills replied to Gregg's topic in The Stadium Wall
That is a simplistic way to look at the waiver wire nuances in the NFL, especially teams who are 20+ on the list. There will be trades at cutdown time. They have averaged 10-15 each year. -
As roster moves for talent, that could happen. Both moves (after replacing the roster spot with another player) don't net any real cap savings though.

If Siran Neal is depth at NCB there might not be roster spot for Cam. That is the point. Cam is on the bubble right now IMO. -

Guys that have less than 4 years and would hit the waivers are one's that team way down the list might be interested in. Let's say a guy like Cam Lewis. He has some worth and could get a late Day 3 pick. I'm not saying he should be cut, just saying. Beane has to weigh whether guys like this, if cut, will make it back on the PS. A trade vs a cut for a guy like Cam also saves another $225k in cap for Beane. -

Thanks for posting the past trades, very informative. I would imagine Beane is floating a few names to GMs and looking to add with a trade for one of his 6ths. For as much as he gets criticized by some fans, he is constantly doing his job. -
All the players on IR are already included in the Cap Space on Spotrac. This means what's left is the 53 (2 added low $ players) and the PS (which will be somewhere around $3.7M). First, adding the 2 players will most likely be offset by releasing players now included in the "top 51" with rookies and others not included in the top 51. There also is dead money for some of these Top 51 players but typically it kind of offsets each other. What I'm getting at is that the $2.2M cap space minus the $3.7M PS cap hit leaves Beane over the cap by around $2M when all the dust settles. A couple of small "restructures" can easily be made to get under. As for how much he needs to get through the season, other small moves can be done when needed. So, I don't see any "big moves" necessarily being needed. Not saying there won't be one, just saying it is not mandatory. I do believe there could be a cut/trade (or even 2) that may surprise some fans. Beane knows he is tight this year (and next), so it will be interesting (for those of us who follow this stuff) as to how he handles things by next week.

Few things not being talked about concerning this offense.
ColoradoBills replied to PrimeTime101's topic in The Stadium Wall
Josh is used to having pressure right in his face. It will take him some time to trust the IOL and learn to step up and throw. It could very well be that when that happens, with his threat to run, it could very well make the LBs and/or SS take a step forward. Could be very advantageous for Dorsey to draw up some plays using that tactic. -
Bills sign LB DaShaun White | Recently in the USFL
ColoradoBills replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall
I doubt this guy has anything to do with MLB. Bernard is out, Milano won't play, and I doubt they want Williams to play the entire final preseason game. I would think they don't want a veteran like Klien playing a lot, so this guy is a warm body in case another LB gets dinged Saturday. There has to be better players than this guy at cutdown time to address MLB. -
Upgrayedd. The two d's are for a double dose of pimpin.

Preseason is Meaningless, History Shows
ColoradoBills replied to theRalph's topic in The Stadium Wall
McDermott really needs to "coach" these vets about false starts, Offside and grabbing jerseys are against the rules. It's really puzzling that none of the peewee, high school and college coaches went over that with them. Maybe the coaches should implement daily "suicide sprints" for anyone flagged from the previous week. Worked for me in freshman basketball. LOL. -
Bills Signing OL Garrett McGhin (who)
ColoradoBills replied to BuffaloBillyG's topic in The Stadium Wall
Here is his game log for Dallas last year. He played relief for the starter in big win games and his only full game was the final. You and I look at "stats" differently. I said I would bring him in for a look. What is your problem with that? You argue just to argue at times. I'm sorry we exchanged comments. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/P/PeteJa21/gamelog/2022/ -
Even sites like PFF get their facts wrong. Peters played in Chicago in 2021. As bad as that line was they chose not to resign him. He played on 500 snaps in Philadelphia in 2020 due to going on IR 2 separate times during the season missing 8 games. When in Dallas last season 1/3 of his snaps came in the last game blowout loss to the Redskins. Not saying he isn't worth a visit to OBD, but his play has been rapidly declining.

Woo another running back! Bills plan to sign RB Ty Johnson
ColoradoBills replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall
He's a body to play in the last game. His only hope is a PS slot and that is a long shot. Beane has to wait for cutdown and hope to get the pick of that liter. The Bills are a contender and with the need for OT depth they should have the player's agents quite interested. -

Dropping a RB and picking up another is no big deal. There are no "quality depth OTs" sitting at home waiting for a call. Beane's best move (after signing McGhin) is to wait for cutdowns. -
I'm a fan of Beane but i did want him to sign a vet swing tackle this year. Someone a step above Shell. Having Shell retire makes the situation worse. He will have to adapt. I will give the beginning of the season to watch the OL and see what the Bills have. DD is the key to the line, and I haven't given up on him yet.

Bills Signing OL Garrett McGhin (who)
ColoradoBills replied to BuffaloBillyG's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don't think I can reliably say he still can play football. He didn't do much at all getting called up from the PS for Dallas last year. Most of his snaps were in the last game. Not sure if he would seriously consider Buffalo (he's a Texan and signing with Dallas made sense), but I would bring him in for a look. I just doubt he has anything left. I however think if Beane would have signed Peters early in FA you would have laughed at him for signing a has-been. -
Sounds like Jason Peters to me. LOL.

I'm interested in who you want Beane to sign with the available FAs. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/all/tackle/all/ -
In the three-lockbox are Diggs, Davis, Harty and Sherfield. It then gets a little stickier. A lot of different ways they can go with the remaining 2 slots when you try to blend the WR attributes with ST worth. I like what each of the others bring to the table so it will have to be left to the guys getting paid to make the decision.

Well that was an absolute crap fest - PostGame thread
ColoradoBills replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
Agree with everything, especially the bolded. It's time to bring in a younger guy. The biggest disappointment in the game was the penalties and mental mistakes. McDermott is the HC and ultimately the buck stops there. However, as you stated, "especially from vets' brings up the question. Who really is to blame? Do these NFL players not know the rules? Do they have to be reminded not to grab jerseys and not move before the ball is snapped? How much of this lack of preparation is on McDermott, and how much is on the position coaches? The player leadership should first look to themselves and then stress to the rest of the team about some personal responsibility. If the leadership sees some issues with any of the staff, they also need to bring it to the surface. My second biggest disappointment was the Special Teams. Once again, McDermott is ultimately responsible but Matt Smiley needs to get these guys playing together. It's only a preseason game and knowing this is a mature veteran team I won't overreact. The vets had one chance to knock of the rust and failed in that attempt. McDermott (and the entire staff) need to get their $%!) together and insist the players follow suit before the Jets game. I would expect a much more somber week of training and more attention being paid to details and less music and dancing. That should come from both McDermott AND the captains. -

I watched when you QB'ed the team back in the 60's. That was pretty rough too! -

I get a feeling there won't be a lot of music and dancing this week in practice. You can't "prepare" veterans to play without causing penalties. Sean needs to be angry this week. -

I'm all in. I'm ordering a pair of "McDermott" glasses!
