I agree. It seems the young guys will have to beat out Collins for tackle slots. I'm not too sure what La'el has left to offer. Might be better to take the chance with the younger guys. Between Center and OL depth it makes the group one of the more interesting ones to watch this summer.

Thanks for the history and your thoughts. I'm a big Cook fan. I think a lot of fans are undervaluing him. He did need to catch a couple of those TD passes. That's the worse I can say about him. The potential of the RB room is high. Hope it pans out that way.

I accept you points about Cook and his tread wear. I guess if Cook leads the league in RB production for the next 2 years he would cost way more than Beane would be willing to pay. This was my thinking. My earlier posts were in favor of a Cook 2nd contract, if the money was right.

Yep, Beane is always looking. If something looks too good to pass on, he can make the moves you mentioned.

Beane doesn't need to make a decision about Cook until March of 2026. Nobody knows what the Bills cap situation will be then. All this speculation about Cook and Davis is so premature. Bills fans should enjoy having Cook as RB for the next 2 years and look forward to what Davis can bring to the team. In a perfect world (IMO) Cook tears it up the next 2 seasons and leads the league. Davis plays great too. Cook moves on with a huge contract and Beane gets a 3rd round comp. Davis takes over and then 3rd rounder continues the process.

You're right, no rush to spend the little Beane has left. All rookies are signed except Coleman who will cost about $1.1M off the top 51. That leaves Beane with about $8.3M. So one poster determines your entire consideration of a thread's relevance. Most of us in favor of considering a 2nd contract are saying it would be only considered for one third that. And I'm sorry @Mat68 $15M is never happening.

Who is saying $15M a year? There is one NFL RB making more than that, CMC. Running back contracts have been in decline the last few years vs the total team cap. Going into training camp this season the Buffalo Bills are the NFLs lowest RB cap spending team. So, the Bills should go lower? Anyone thinking that any UDFA off the streets is better than Cook is a fool. What cracks me up is the INSANE position that "NO RB SHOULD EVER BE SIGNED TO ANY 2ND CONTRACT".

Most here don't see what we are saying. It has got to a point where 99% of NFL RBs are now put into a category where they are all considered the same by way too many fans. If Cook plays well his last 2 years and is in good health, you offer him a "reasonable" 3-year contract. If he and his agent refuse and get more money somewhere else, great. Get a comp pick. It seems to me fans have now combined the reality of not resigning RBs to huge $ 4-year contracts with the overreaction of never resigning any RB to any length or any dollar amount. It seems to me a lot of top RBs sign huge 2nd contracts that never end up seeing the final years of the contract. If Cook is playing well, it would behoove him and his agent to sign a 3-year deal for "reasonable" money. I got no problem paying a very good RB who fits a team's scheme and system $3M-$4M per year.

Don't see this guy having a chance to make the 53. Maybe not even the PS. He is an amazing athlete and maybe, just maybe he brings in a working example of techniques that could be useful to other players. Laugh all you want, but McDermott has been talking to players about this stuff for years. If he is lost in practice, they will move on to someone else. The "outcry" about this is laughable.

I'm curious to see if Shakir and Samuel (along with another WR) are bunched up. With their quickness and blocking ability it could be something that works well.

You want to see an example of "kicking the can down the road", just look at what Miami has done with Hill. This Waddle signing is because Hill will not be on the team in 2026. The last year of his contract 2006 (age 32) is $56M cap hit! LOL, that's crazy. Hill's last season with the Dolphins is next year. I don't look at this Waddle signing in a vacuum. IF you are moving on from Tua you don't want to be put in a situation where the current team is. The Dolphins could easily be a playoff contending team. You don't get a good draft pick with that. That's why you blow up the team this season or you sign Tua. Miami has a total cap hit for next season of $112M for Hill, Chubb, Ramsey and a 34-year-old Armstead. That's why I agree with what @Bleeding Bills Bluesaid about them being in a "pickle". They are.

The WR market "bursting" will be team specific driven IMO. You have a mediocre QB you NEED elite WRs. Those teams will pay. You have an elite QB, you can't pay everyone. What I see with the new cap situation is this. The days of attempting to put that Superbowl team together with franchise players in positions of QB, DE, LT, WR, CB and let's say another team scheme specific player is getting hard to do. The cap keeps going up but the elite position $s seem to be outpacing the whole. The "KC blueprint" isn't unique. A few years ago, in regard to WR cost, was exactly what the Patriots did.

Let's start with the obvious. The $56M cap hit for Hill in 2026 is NEVER going to happen. No way is there a restructure for a then 32-year-old WR. The Waddle signing is proof they believe he will take over WR1 in 2026. Waddle contract extension doesn't kick in until that year. Waddle is playing under his 5th year option next season. Jalen Ramsey's contract is unsustainable. He will be cut next year which in essence they pay him $25M to leave and get $1M in cap relief. If they keep him, they pay $26M in 2025 and owe $18M in void dead cap in 2026. That tells me he is GONE. No way they cost him out for $44M to keep him in 2025. You are totally right about him being gone in 2025. Armstead is a puzzlement for them. I think it's all on how he plays this season. I guess it depends on Eichenberg or maybe Wynn. Right now, I see a good chance he is gone too, but they only get $4M in cap relief. Chubb, like you say is another quandary. I think they do 1 of him or Armstead. They can't take dead cap on all of them. They are ALL-IN this season for sure. The insane thing is they haven't done anything (to this point) about Tua. If this was going on in Buffalo this board would melt down. LOL. OBJ is once again a FA. As I said above, the Dolphins are ALL-IN this year because next year will be crazy for them.

I agree Muppy. Although it seems that a lot of fans (also, many on this board) have become embittered with success but no Lombardi. We all want that, but whether that is achieved or not should not take away from the joy of being an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills. At least not IMO. Every time I start to think that way, I hear my 92-year-old jokingly saying, "I hope they can win a Superbowl soon, I don't have much time left". She watches every snap of every game, year after year, and still finds the joy in it all. I do hope that some of the bitter fans can take some solace in that type of fandom. If I can keep that hope, I will be interested in what is happening with my Buffalo Bills, win/lose/or draw!
