Yeah, I know, a couple weeks have passed, but that's partially the point.

"13 seconds" probably took me a full month to get over, particularly with Allen playing the perfect game, but still coming up short, etc.

This year, I thought I had digested the game after only a couple days; I thought it hurt exponentially less

The difference is, with this year's loss to KC, even though I did not obsess over it the way I did in 2021, when I did think about it, it would hurt more... and more... and more... as time went on.

That's because as time passed, it became more evident that this was an even greater missed opportunity than 2021.

    • We were at home against KC.
    • There was no Cincy in the playoffs.
    • We got uncharacteristic breaks during the game.  The Hardman fumble was something that never happened for the Bills.
    • We were in the best position to do exactly what you'd think we would want to do after spending two years waiting to have this opportunity again(!!!) We were doing precisely what we must have learned from "13 seconds" which is kill the clock and give Mahomes as little time as possible if/when he ever does get the ball again.   8 minutes remaining when we start the drive at our own 25, and before you know it, had it down to 2 minutes left at the KC 26.  Diggs is running by himself wide open for an easy catch that would almost certainly continue this pace, but Shakir is open in the end zone too, and that's the decision Allen would make in that moment. Writing that out is painful.  Ugh.   Anyway, it's old news, right?  Yeah, and that's the point.  As it becomes increasingly clear that we missed an even bigger opportunity, thinking back on this game is associated with an increasingly sh*t feeling as well.
    • And then, once the Ravens lost with apparently the "same old Lamar" it was very clear to me.

This should have been the year of the "Berman Special" (SF vs Buffalo).

It's a strange feeling, because, unlike 2021, it is not something I necessarily dwell on, but when it does come up and I flash back to the dreadful  2nd and 9 play, I want to go punch a wall.

It's also a strange feeling because, also unlike 2021, I am already looking forward to the next season with anticipation and excitement (in 2021, I wasn't ready yet, and I was turned off by all the hype and expectations for the Bills going into the year; I did not think it would help us at all).

Anyway, the real question is where does Allen go from here?  How did Allen take this loss in comparison with years past?  Does this add more fuel to the fire (like we all hope) so he works his ass off wanting a Super Bowl more than ever?  Or does this have some cumulative effect where it becomes exhausting after a while, after telling himself, "We are going to get better from this" over and over, only to find himself right back to where he started at the end of the day?  I get the impression that Diggs feels something like this.  And I really hope Allen never gets to that point, because we need him to be as hungry as ever.    Side note...let's get him that young dynamic WR in 2024.  Anticipation of a "rebooted" young offense is what has me amped up already for 2024  (something I did not feel nearly as much after 2021).

Basically...from my "fan" perspective, I now know this year has made me want it even more because it ultimately hurts more and also served as a reminder that our playoff window is always open, unlike last season where we got smacked around for four quarters and went into the off-season looking like a broken team which had people not only betting on the window being closed, but predicting the 2023 Bills would miss the playoffs altogether.

I just hope the Bills feel the same.  And I hope they use that feeling to drive them next season.  The loss to Cincy seemed to have an unhealthy residual effect on the team, but I hope this latest loss to KC just pisses everyone off.

No way. 13 seconds took me a long time to get over. I was over this loss to the Chiefs within a couple days. Maybe it's because I've learned to not get my hopes up. But I've been over it for a while

What a difference maker this draft class was for the Lions:

Round 1, Pick 12 — RB Jahmyr Gibbs

Round 1, Pick 18 — LB Jack Campbell

Round 2, Pick 34 overall — TE Sam LaPorta

Round 2, Pick 45 overall — DB Brian Branch

The rest of their draft was not much but these 4 guys were amazing, particularly Gibbs and LaPorta. I think LaPorta could become another Kelce type dominant TE for years.

It sure would be amazing if we could find 4 guys who could step right in at Saftey, WR, LB and DT draft this year.

But but but.....RB in the first round

Why do the Bills always play this song on gamedays?  The song is 20yrs old and, as far as I’m aware, has zero relevance to Buffalo.

In my opinion, playing this song comes off as tacky, outdated and simply put:  embarrassing.

    1. Why do we play this song?

    2. Who is responsible for selecting the playlist on game days.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    How dare them. F**king bastards

I feel a bit for Greg. I think he has got better each year he has been on the job. He was certainly an upgrade on Troy Aikman. But there was just always something about him that didn't seem to carry the gavitas of a big network #1 color guy.

I have no idea how Brady will be. Greg should go to Prime and do the Thursday Night gig. Because my word Kirb is unlistenable.

Him and Al Michaels in the booth would be good actually

One of the few malleable things about the league is that we all accept how the schedule isn't the same for every team.  Yet it's by CHOICE they do it this way.

League owners and operatives could simply change it.

You can't control player injuries, free agency, draft positioning, salary cap, etc. There's a lot of randomness that affects results.  The scheduling system is by design, and I'd argue has a massive impact on what teams make the Superbowl every year.

31 games (every team plays each other once) is never gonna happen.  So what are some better options than the current system?

Brady and the Pats went to 8 consecutive AFC Championships (2011 - 2018).  Not even counting their pre-2011 runs.  The Chiefs have appeared in 6 straight conference championships.  2018 - 2023 & counting.

The AFC domination transferred from Brady to Mahomes in the span of a season.  Now the conference is Mahomes' to dominate until he retires.

We just accept this as a reality.  The NFL could just change it.  Why is it this way?  Because they decided to in 1967.

If the conferences are unevenly matched due to the presence of a generational talent, it creates a competitive disadvantage for 15 teams simply because of league logistics.  Again, they choose to have it this way.

NFL fans accept the reality that their teams play almost all the same teams every year, and expect DIFFERENT results.  I'm burnt out on the same teams every year.  And of course I know as I'm writing this that IT WILL NEVER CHANGE.  Doesn't mean we can't at least have the conversation, right?

The best way for the Bills to win a championship. Put them in the AFC South and let them play all 3 division opponents and no other NFC conference but the NFC South for 5 years. I love it. I'm gonna write Goodell

I don't know about you, but the parallels between last night's game hit a little bit too close to home for me. To me it seemed inevitable that Detroit was going to lose that game as SF started battling back. There was nothing Detroit could do, they were going to choke.

We have seen it ourselves. A well rounded team with an explosive offense and a good defense comes out of nowhere and shocks the league. That was us in 2020, and like Detroit we almost rode that wave all the way to the Superbowl. "We'll be back next year" echoed many of the Detroit Lions faithful. Don't be so sure.

For whatever reason, Detroit, Cleveland, and Buffalo are all eerily similar. Rust belt cities that have been down on their luck for the past 50+ years or so. We also share a common geographic feature...Lake Erie. Is it something in the water? Could it be a native American curse? Or just a coincidence? You decide!

If Dan Campbell kicks 2 Field goals when he should have. They probably win that game. That's his fault

Well, no one knows who will be the best prior to....but the Vikings sure did think he would be a great pick---in fact enough that they felt very comfortable in getting rid of Diggs to get him.

He had 2 great seasons, but sucking up another 160 targets to get to 1100 yards this season has worn him out.  Plus in his career he consistently no-shows in playoff elimination games.

He was great the first 3 years here and was just as elite as he was in Minnesota. We should have made the Super Bowl in that time. Minnesota didn't screw us on any trade. We have got a very productive Diggs before this season

In 10 career playoff games, Josh Allen has:

    Passer rating of 100.0

    64.6 completion percentage

2,723 yards passing, 21 touchdowns and 4 interceptions

    563 rushing yards and 5 TD's

That sounds like the stat line of a multiple Super Bowl Champion..............screw you, Kansas City!!!

I saw something that says he has 27 total TDs and 4 INTs in the playoffs. That includes his runs and the TD catch against Houston

In his defense, didn’t he do that all year??  Maybe that’s why they got this far in the first place?

We can’t really judge bc we all are bills fans and haven’t watched every lions game.

for example, non-bills fans would not have known bass had stunk for 10 straight games and there was a ZERO percent chance he makes that 4th and 9 kick v the Chiefs.

non-bills fans may not have known that there was also a ZERO percent chance our D would stop KC if we made that FG.

only bills fans would know this.  So only bills fans would know that going for it on 4th and 9 was the correct call.  Every other fan base would call that decision dumb and consider missing an easy FG just “bad luck”.  But we know the truth.

maybe lions fans know something similar

Yeah, he did do it all year. But he had the opportunity at 24-10 to take a 27-10 lead and chose not to. He had another opportunity at 27-24 to tie it so that if the 49ers score, he can tie the game with one TD as opposed to now being down by 10. I'm sure the scenarios he did it all season were different. That was not the time to do that

you do realize your examples are from upwards of 30 years ago? predate MS Windows, internet, free agency. probably not the strongest argument. just sayin’.

Why does it matter? Those coaches did the exact same thing McDermott has and still found multiple jobs. What does how long ago it was matter?

Kadarius Toney, in a rant that ranks as an all-timer in terms of vulgarity, is accusing the Kansas City Chiefs of lying about his injury as they sideline him for the AFC Championship Game.

    "I don't give a f***!'' Toney says via social media on the day of the game at the Baltimore Ravens. "All these p**** n****** ... B**** a** n******* Y'all readin' all this half-a** s***. ... I don't f*** with y'all ... I'm not hurt, none of that. Hip, knee, nuh-uh.''

I think we knew the problem after 13 seconds.

The Bills lack a true game changer on defense.

The Chiefs have one in Chris Jones........and despite the Bills dominating the Chiefs D for most of that game last Sunday Jones came up big in a big moment.

It's why I wouldn't be entirely shocked if the Bills took a swing at signing Danielle Hunter in UFA if he gets there.    Despite their cap issues.

They could bring him in with a $2M cap hit and push his big hits down the road sorta' like they did with Von.

I'm not predicting it but if they are desperate to close the deal it wouldn't surprise me.

I don't see this defense taking a big step without their version of TJ Watt, Aaron Donald or Chris Jones.    Ed Oliver isn't going to be that guy, IMO.

I've said for a while, this Defense desperately needs a Miles Garrett, TJ Watt or Nick Bosa type player. We haven't had that since Mario

The multi-verse shows us just how poor Sean McDermott’s football prospective  really is: McDermott traded the best quarterback in the league —-Pat Mahomes, for a cornerback, Tre White. White will be out of the league next year. Mahomes has kept us out of the championship for the last five years, having NOT been stopped by Tre White or the rest of Sean’s piss poor play off defense. Sean thinks he’s George Halas, but he’s only John Rauch.

And you think if Mahomes walked into a team of Kelvin Benjamin, Zay Jones, Deonte Johnson, Jordan Matthews, Charles Clay he would have had the sake success as he did walking onto a team with Kelce, Hill, Kareem Hunt and a HOF head coach?

  14. If you ever look at coaches like McDermott, they always get chance after chance after chance after chance. Look up any coach that has basically done what he has. You will see 8, 9, 10 years before they are finally let go. The Bills honestly aren't doing anything differently than most teams with coaches like him

  15. 2 minutes ago, Generic_Bills_Fan said:

If we fire him after a division win/divisional round loss next year he will absolutely get scooped up by another team

not saying he wouldn’t deserve the firing though some guys just need a change of scenery

That I agree with. He will definitely get another opportunity. Not saying he will go any farther with them, though

McD is not a top 15 HC.

Look at what’s happening with HCs (Harbaugh, Billacheat). Put it this way, if McD were on his sofa, would he get a new HC gig? I don’t think so. Fine DC, Ops Mgr but bad O, OC, game Mgr.

it will be tough to overcome the final 8 with McD

Lmao. You think if McD was not coaching right now he wouldn't find another job? Andy Reid got another opportunity, Schottenheimer got 4, Belichick was a complete failure in Cleveland and he got another opportunity but you think teams wouldn't entertain the idea of McDermott? 😂

One AFC championship appearance in that span is unacceptable.

And I honestly don't think McDermott is anywhere close to being on the hot seat.

I actually think anything less than a Championship game appearance next year he could be out

Curious what those numbers would look like if filtered vs teams that made playoffs each year. And then add Bills playoff games.   Not sure it would look too good.

Couldn't you say this about any good team?
