  1. Like I said, it's my opinion that Whitner is and never will be in the same league as Pro Bowlers like Sean Taylor, Polomalu and Roy Williams. With that being said, let's see what happens. I am stating my opinion and if I end up being wrong, I will eat the requisite crow... with BBQ sauce! Did I say Whitner's future was bleak? Nope. I simply said that if they traded down to #15 and missed out on him, getting one of the players I mentioned PLUS a second round pick isn't exactly a consolation prize. Regarding Greenway, the fact that he was on IR due to a freak injury during the preseason doesn't automatically make Whitner a better pick. He was one of the top linebacking prospects coming into the draft and with his speed, would have fit the Cover 2 defense pefectly. Bobby Carpenter didn't start right away because (a) the Cowboys were deep at LB and (b) Parcells favors veterans players. Did you watch their games the second half of the season? He came on strong when given a chance, culminated by a stellar performance as a starter in their playoff loss to the Seahawks. With Wade coaching them now, watch out for him this year. And as I said, Tamba Hali and Joseph were decent options as well... of course this is all assuming IF Whitner was off the board at that point.
  2. No, based on the following: a) Drafting a "solid starter" at safety with a top 10 pick is stupid. Roy Williams? Sean Taylor? Polamolu? Fine... Whitner is not in their class and I don't think he will be. b) The team had numerous needs... safety was merely one of them. So in the off chance they traded down and lost out on Whitner, there were plenty of other quality players to be had in what was one of the deepest drafts in years. c) Accepting that trade would have netted the team another first day pick -- again, this was a deep draft. Pigeon-holing themselves to Whitner cost them in the way of opportunity. d) Good safeties like Whitner can be found late. The Jets got a guy named Kerry Rhodes in the 4th round in 2005 who has turned into a budding star... the Patriots plug in nobodys at safety because they realize that DL and LB are far more important.
  3. Mike Williams started as a rookie. Robert Gallery started as a rookie. Sometimes, when you are paid the big bucks, MONEY dictates whether or not you start. Whitner is a starter. Is he worth top-8 money? Probably not. Time will tell, but history has shown that safeties like Whitner can be found later.
  4. Nope. The problem is that in your simple little mind, drafting a safety in round 1 was a necessity. Chad Greenway was a great linebacking prospect. So was Bobby Carpenter -- and either or would have made the loss of Spikes a lot easier to swallow. If we drafted Davin Joseph, perhaps we don't NEED to spend the richest contract in NFL history on a guard. Tamba Hali could have improved the pass rush opposite Schobel.... you can never have enough pass rushers. But the reality of the situation is that no matter what Whitner said on Cold Pizza, he probably would have been available at 15. The Cardinals were targetting Whitner over Leinart when they have a gaping hole at QB and are moving into a new stadium??? Bullschitt.

  6. He never said it was a horrible pick. He said it was a good player that the Bills took too early. He is right.
  7. It must be some good schitt you got there!
  8. And the Bills did such a good job of stopping him last year! LOL
  9. Considering Tom Brady has shown he can beat the Bills on a regular basis, I'm sure he'd rather have the bye come before one of their tougher opponents, like San Diego or Cincy.
  10. That happened to JP in Rochester last summer right before camp. We ran into him at a bar in Roch and he was with Fowler and McCargo... he told me that they wouldn't let him into Soho because they weren't dressed appropriately. I don't think they knew who he was.
  11. These posts are funny and are not getting repetitive. Please keep them coming!!!
  12. With the sheer number of holes this team has, it wouldn't be a bad move to move back and acquire another first day pick. If Willis is there, take him. They could take Leon Hall here, but doubt they would. In this case, it would be smart to trade down with either GB or TEN, both of whom need a RB and the Bills can address the RB in the 2nd.
  13. Allowing Nate to avoid the franchise tag was a pretty dumb move and shows how inexperienced Marv is as a GM... I too am worried that AJ Smith will take advantage of Marv's lack of experience as a front office executive.
  14. And one more point -- where was Terrell Davis drafted? It is generally not smart to draft a first round RB unless (a) Your "only" need is RB (b) It is a franchise back Otherwise, you find key starters at premium positions.
  15. Agreed, but the money is being spent somewhere... be it turner or whoever becomes the #12 pick. Would I rather pay #12 money to a backup RB from SD who has shown flashes of potential or would I rather pay #12 money to a collegiate stud who was determined a fit by the college scouts we employ year-round? I'd rather do the latter. I have seen the former and his name was Rob Johnson.
  16. Never said you suggested that, simply pointed out that I have seen it suggested on this board a few times. I think even swapping firsts would be a huge mistake. If I'm Tennesse at #19, maybe that makes sense... but going from #12 to #30 is a huge drop off. In 2001, when the Bills traded down from #13 overall to #22, they received an extra 2nd and a 4th. Using that as a gauge, trading down from #12 to #30 is worth maybe a 2nd and a late 3rd -- and Turner simply isn't worth it. Couple that with a draft seemingly deep in RB talent.. this is what we pay our scouts for to travel the country year-round at schools... to unearth talent in the middle rounds. Let's see what that scouting department can do!
  17. Or... you can use the valuable first rounder to add another starter on defense and use a 2nd or 3rd round pick on a running back. Good scouting departments can find RB studs after the first round. We have seen it with Travis Henry, Maurice Jones-Drew and Jerrius Norwood. The Bills once traded the #9 overall pick for Rob Johnson, a backup with loads of potential who had shown promise in limited opportunities... You saw how that turned out. Giving up a first rounder for a largely unproven RB is insane. Marshall Faulk was traded for a 2nd and a 5th -- and he was proven. Ahman Green was traded with a 5th rounder for Fred Vinson and a 5th WILLIS MCGAHEE only got 2 3rd rounders! ... and people suggest giving up a top 15 pick for Michael Turner???
  18. Prediction: After another 7 win season and beating the Vegas odds, the feeling will be: "Marv has this thing going in the right direction!"
  19. Here's where your little fantasy goes out the window. The Redskins are offering the Bears the #6 overall pick for Briggs STRAIGHT UP. That is much more valuable than your pie in the sky proposal. But keep it up!
  20. Umm because the Bills have been losers for a long time?
  21. This is a repeat of the Rob Johnson trade, though the Texans didn't surrender a top 10 pick.
  22. What about Timmons from FSU?
  23. Jauron: "I've always said, and it's not good in print, but it's the truth, if you want to be a good team you have to be good everywhere. Kick it well, cover it well, return it well, run it, play both sides of the ball. You can't dominate on one side and generally win it all. We've got to improve over the entire team, step forward and improve ourselves with the given opportunities where we can." -- Bills coach Dick Jauron, whose team was 7-9 last year.
  24. What games were you watching? Clearly not the Bills games. That is a ridiculous statement to make. Takeo was a very high impact player for the Bills prior to his injury.
