Bills to interview Thad Lewis for OC
BuffaloBillyG replied to BuffaloBillyG's topic in The Stadium Wall
I see all your points as very valid and make perfect sense. We have seen McDermott travel both roads in his HC career when it comes to OC. We saw the journeyman in his first 2 hires (Dennison and Daboll). I would say one worked out better than the other. We saw him give a first timer with potential a shout in Dorsey (Something about last names that start with D) and that worked....until it fell apart. I don't mind interviewing a Thad Lewis. And if he's the guy for the job, so be it and I hope he's amazing. The only thing I really don't want is what happened last hire. We all knew Dorsey was going to be the guy. They met the bare minimum with 2 minority candidates (Tee Martin and Edgar Bennet) and handed the job to Dorsey. Through 2 interviews this time they seem to be following the same script. Now if in the coming days we get a few other various interviews will coaches of different levels I think it would speak to maybe them viewing Lewis as a bit more serious a contender. If it's yet another bare minimum search ending in Brady...then I think the debate could shift to them interviewing because he was willing to interview. Just my opinion. -

Maybe they do. Maybe it would be a Ken Dorsey 2.0 hire with an inexperienced play caller struggling to grasp game flow. If hired, time will tell. -

Not sure I would call Leftwich a success story. He kinda flamed out as soon as Arians was off the sidelines. Ryans is a good one. I'll give you that. Maybe it's just my own preference for an OC. We just came off the "New OC, never called plays" track in Dorsey. I'm not excited to start at the start of that again. -

Pointing to McVay as the exception is like someone that uses Tom Brady as "the reason" 6th round draft picks are insanely valuable. Could Thad be special? Sure. Anything is possible. He could be some sort of wonder kid. But is that the guy you want running the offense on a team with Super Bowl goals? He ready to match up against the Spagnuolos and Anarumos of the NFL? Highly doubtful IMO. -

IMO, not ones that have such little overall coaching experience. -

You aren't wrong on Duce. The main thing he would be is experience in coaching and has from what I've seen always been a "players choice" type coach. That may not be enough, however it's free to look into. As for the above, all valid points. When it comes to interviews, we don't know what we don't know. I would say time will tell the tale. If it's a narrow net cast with 2 pretty green minority candidates announced and Joe Brady gets the job, I think it would be fair to think it wasn't a real OC search, though. The phone at OBD should be ringing pretty often at this point with OCs wanting to come. There shouldn't be a shortage of interviews. I just don't want them to meet the bare minimum here. -

Fair point. However, Tomlin was also a coach in the NFL at various levels for 7 years before he took that interview. A bit more qualified and believable that he would be more than just a token interview. People often overlook that. The problem I have with this interview is that (at least to me) signifies that a real OC search is not about to happen. The job is Joe's. Just like it was Ken's in the last OC search. They are choosing comfortable over what may be better for the development and growth of the offense. There are plenty of minority candidates with better qualifications if they wanted to conduct a true search for OC. Perhaps ask for permission to interview EB? Duce Staley. This is a farce to meet a rule. -

Yea, experience is not why he's being interviewed by multiple teams this off season. But he does "check a few boxes". It's a good chance for him to get his name out there for the future, but most people I think would agree he's not very qualified. -
With the Bills already starting the OC search it tells me they have already likely conducted their review on the coaching staff. This would signal to me that Smiley is probably not being let go. Hoping I'm reading that wrong...just a gut feeling especially after McDermott's words about him at the Locker Clean out day presser. Though if they were to make a move (Panthers jokes aside) Tabor has been a pretty well thought of ST coach for a bit now.

Falcons hire Rams DC Raheem Morris as head coach
BuffaloBillyG replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
No one wants Belichick anymore. I have Ben Johnson getting the Washington job. Then there's Seattle...and Quinn is possible there. POSSIBLY Vrabel. But I'm thinking Vrabel and Belichick are jobless. Hope Belichick goes on one of the Sunday AM pre shows. Would be hysterical. -
I really hope not. ST was atrocious at times this year.

I think anyone that legitimately thinks the job isn't Brady's is fooling themselves. We will see a couple more candidates brought in to fill the Rooney Rule. Maybe one or two others to say "see it was a legit search" and the job will go to Brady.

Yeah. Atlanta, Seattle and Washington left. People are going to be kinda shocked when the hiring is done, spots are filled and Belichick and Vrabel are still on the market.

Votes are already in. They vote before the post season starts IIRC.

No Tua?!?!? But I was told....

Interesting hire. Wonder who Tepper will hire next year.😂. (This has more to do with Tepper and less to do with Canales.)

"Cheery picking"😂 Yes, our top 2 picks being heavily played this year is "cheery picked" Last year's class had Cook, Benford, Bernard and Shakir, all played heavy roles. Elam was at this point an exception to playing rookies. The year before both Groot and Brown ended their rookie years as starters. It's almost like some guys need time to develop. Case in point Bernard year 1...just wasn't ready. Looked lost. Year 2....played amazing. The narrative is about as dead as the idea that Tyler Dunne is impartial when it comes to writing articles on McDermott. But go ahead and dazzle me with some facts that aren't "cheery picked". I'll spot ya Elam. And go...

Bears speaking to Eric Washington for DC Job
BuffaloBillyG replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall
Chance to reunite with Edmunds....how can you say no. This plus Babich's interest from the Giants... McDermott better decide what he's doing and quickly.
