Can't speak for that specific business, but running my own (very small, albeit) business, I can say that the reality on the ground is often far removed from the theory of a book or the back of a can of sealant. Have to make do with what you've got, and be creative in solving problems. Halliburton, KBR, etc. are THE people who do this type of contracting in hot zones. Doing otherwise is like hiring one guy with a pickup and a 6'x6' trailer to haul all of the garbage in NYC. While I'm a little leery about what the ultimate worth of what we're doing over there will be (and the macro cost of it), I don't doubt that, by and large, the right people are on the job when they're given a task. And the guys who do that stuff are to be commended.

On one hand, there's the numerous examples of guys in the NBA who were drafted by bad teams and played like sh-- b/c that was the culture, then went to another, better team and excelled. It's all a matter of environment. Millen is a grade-A moron who thought adding more first-round WRs and big$ name FAs would be the answer to his O's and team's problems. But, the NFL is not the NBA. Gunshy-ness in QBs doesn't go away. And Harrington did not show an ability to make good quick decisions or throw accurate passes; by year 3 that's a sure sign that he's not going to, ever. BTW --- it's pronounced Day-Twa-ah.

As long as there's no incentive for some players to play college ball b/c they don't care about getting a free education and they're not paid.... there's going to be some skeeve factors for the most popular sports where recruiting is concerned. Pulling strings for academic eligibilty, sex parties for football recruits (was that Texas Tech?).... I saw some softie examples; was in a gen-ed class loaded w/ jocks and the prof got free tickets to a few games from the coach. It's for that reason that I used to go to some of the less visible sports, where they are truly student-athletes b/c there is no real pro league. As for the flap with BC, it goes back to when Miami and VT left the Big East for the ACC. That year, BC made a promise that they were committed to the Big East, that they were definately staying in the Big East. So, UConn built a $90M football stadium for upgrading to D-I thinking that Big East football would have a solid future. The next year, BC runs to the ACC (leaving the Big East high and dry for football programs, hence the nickname Big Least), and it was found out that they had been making hay with the ACC before and while they were making said promises. And to add insult to injury, BC's administration is the Boston Archdiosesce(?). Nice!

Hasn't been caught... doing what? I think M. Williams should've been expelled for the laptop episode, and I really didn't follow the team during the season b/c of it. But Calhoun had nothing to do with that decision; it was the Dean of Students (I actually wrote him a letter expressing my disappointment, as an alum). What's the other name? I've heard most of them. Yukon, UCan't, University of College Basketball....

Do I really need to write who I think is going to win? Just look to the left. Would LOVE it if we got to knock off BC in the semis. To anyone who followed what happened in their leaving the Big East, it would be sweet revenge for those fecking backstabbing liars.

Oh, to return to those days where on a 3rd and goal from the 1, the opponent can know we're going to run, and we still run and put up 6 points. The heady days of Carwell Gardner and Sam Gash blowing holes and smashing LBs. What we've had at FB for the past several years is pathetic for a cold-weather, run first, especially-in-December-when-it-counts team. Which is another plus about Bernstein.... he's outta friggin' Wisconsin. STL, you've gotta be kidding if you think he's still going to be there in the 6th. Even the low 3rd is a maybe.

Albeit, he could sign it with someone else.... It's not a bad deal for either camp. Provides the Bills with a receiver who, given an opportunity as #2 (who knows if he will), will be well motivated in order to cash in next year, but if he doesn't produce we can let him go w/ no hit. Davis stands to benefit in the example you provide.

Thanks for starting a thread on this. As I said on the college board, we really should be looking to draft a FB this year, as this is probably one of the better crops in a while and for a while. Add in that Shelton is 33(?) and didn't impress me too much last year. If Marv/Jauron are going to commit to the running game rather than just say he will like the past two regimes, he needs to fully commit. Time to get back to Buffalo Bills-style football, if you ask me. Which might mean using one of the early 3rds on a guy like Bernstein. It'd be nice to wrap this position up for the next 8 years and not have to worry about it. As it stands, we've been bringing in these small-school project FBs and depending on hybrids like Neufeld. Lots of people here on TBD who don't appreciate the FB. He is AS important or MORE important than any offensive lineman.

Moulds was disgruntled last season, when the FO wasn't seriously screwing around with his pay. I don't think him too low to not see the writing on the wall, and that he's going with the trade-or-release threat shows it. Relationships that sour like this don't generally get back to good terms. As for that last sentence, there's a lot of time for something to happen; from a draft-day deal to a Milloy-type release. And if it is a Milloy situation, there will be teams that will do what they need to get him, as he still can be a good-to-great receiver, just probably not in Buffalo. And to Peter, I'm not a "JP apologist," it's just that some of us take issue with a guy who holds a grudge against another due to circumstances out of his control, such that it affects the QB-WR effectiveness. I'm not saying that several weeks of offseason workouts would have guaranteed they'd be best buddies, but it would have helped both Moulds and the team if they were on the same page prior to camp, and it showed itself early in the season (and JP's performance was hindered when Evans got the heat) and exaserbated itself later in the season. Moulds is the one who didn't make the effort at the start, and refused to get over that Drew was no longer on the team.

I don't think we differ all that much. I'm just more in the mindset of 'If he's done it once....' What happens the next time he deems that he's not being used effectively? Moulds hasn't really showed me that he's any better than my 5-y.o. nephew in learning what his role is and who is in charge. And I don't think this sets the proper tone in the locker room, even if it has been glossed over/smoothed out. It still happened and it's not going to be forgotten while he's still here. But the harsher look is further supported by what he's doing now in creating another publicly-aired flap with the FO (and BTW a FO now headed by the coach he didn't exactly enamor himself with as a young player), even if it is about something as delicate as a man's paycheck. If someone else wants this type of player, or can give Eric the situation that he wants, fine.

JP and Evans' syncranization last year was testament to what could have been had Moulds not been staring at his colon from the inside? Like I said, it was a problem of his own making. What's happening now is what needed to happen. It's how the NFL (and sports) is now that a player needs to "demand a trade" then the GM says that "X is under contract, and we'll blah blah blah" to get some hype going so both sides can get done what needs to get done. And I think it'll end up being win-win.

And whose fault is that? When JP was named the starter, he invited Evans and Moulds to work out with him to get their timing down and generally acclimate to each other. Moulds chose to take out his anger at TD cutting Drew, by not showing up. JP was on the same page as Evans; Moulds wasn't thrown to as much last year b/c he wasn't. Hard to empathize with someone who created his problem in the first place. And then there's the whole Miami game spectacle. The fact he's still on the team sends the players the wrong message that they can defy the coaches; Rueben pulled the same thing and he got his. Levy's hand was kind of forced, as you want to try to get something in exchange. And yet, he couldn't shop Moulds around in the situation last week b/c other teams figure all they need to do is wait to get him for free. Moulds and his agent now are moving things along on their natural progression by announcing that he is, de facto, on the market. I think we get something for him, but maybe not as much as one would like.

We haven't heard a fuggin' peep from him since the season ended, in contrast to last year's hypefest, but what do you expect from a loudmouth, cocky punk!

My inside sources say that in addition to that new rule only applying to the Bills, we have a $2 salary cap and must purge our roster of everyone but JP Losman, who will hike and throw to himself and then catch the ball; he will also play defense. Marv will be forced to coach pro bono by NFL fiat. Also, our opponents are allowed to have their entire roster and pratice squad on the field at all times.
