This thread is making things waaaayyyy too complicated : Any team wants the option of letting a rookie quarterback sit, if at all possible A very large percent of rookie quarterback benefit by sitting, at least part of the season Hue Jackson took scorching criticism for playing Kizer too soon. Apparently he took it to heart. Cleveland's future is in this pick. They can't afford to mess things up again. That's why they pick Darnold over Allen btw. Cleveland has a TON of picks, and could part with a third Taylor's a decent qb, and will probably enjoy success with the Brown's better supporting cast. And that's that. There's no big conclusion on the '18 crop of quarterback draftees here......

PURE SPECULATION: Is Beane Forcing Jackson Onto McDermott?
grb replied to Gugny's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Laugh at a conspiracy-monger who looks like a ludicrous fool and what does he do? Double-down, and be twice more ludicrous still. Let's unpack Gugny's escalation : His theory? Having uncovered the plot of a secret o-line cabal to throw an NFL game, justice from McBeane was swift and merciless: Except it wasn't swift was it? The same linemen continued to start the weeks following the crime. Me? If I was the coach and discovered my players sabotaged the team, I'd sit them down, even if I had to scrap every practice squad bare to do so. But I'm not a "high-character" kind of coach like McDermott, who was apparently satisfied to put "deal with players fixing games" at the bottom of his very long to-do list. But justice was merciless per Gugny. Sure. In the case of Incognito, the heavy price for throwing a Bills game was a new contract on March 21 - with a base salary of $3,650,000 and a $1 million signing bonus. Who says McBeane doesn't rule with an iron fist? If Richie had thrown two games they'd have probably cut that sucker all the way back to 3.5 million. But Incognito wasn't the only miscreant punished per Gugny. Eric Woods was also muscled out for his part in the crime. Obviously the doctors were paid off, the hospital forced to sing the tune, the x-rays fabricated. Given how complicated that had to be, you'd think it'd be easier just to punish Eric with a million dollar check like Richie. But other saboteurs were purged, per Gugny. The whole "Moving up to Twelve" thing was just cover for McBeane's secret vengeance. Granted, Cordy Glenn didn't even play the game in question, but Gugny probably has him pegged as the puppet-master, running the plot behind the scenes. Meanwhile, main suspect Mills somehow escapes McBeane's wrath. Go figure, huh? I'm guessing Gugny sees that as temporary. Soon the hidden hand of justice will strike : Mills will be hit by "lightening", or eaten by "sharks", or exposed to a Russian nerve agent. And poor Tyrod just gets no respect. After all, the o-line played just as bad Thursday Night against the Jets, but apparent no one is going to the guillotine for that crime. -

Of course you believe the Chargers game was fixed. A true troll is up to any challenge. -
PURE SPECULATION: Is Beane Forcing Jackson Onto McDermott?
grb replied to Gugny's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not so sure. I see a lot of similarities with the "O-Line Threw The Chargers Game" conspiracy theory, and Lord knows some people took that seriously. Consider the common elements : A nefarious entity..... (O-line cabal, Beane, Trilateral Commission, Skull & Bones Society, etc) Secretly manipulates things...... To thwart the ascension of a True Quarterback...... And foist that Inferior Kind of quarterback on the team Hidden Forces? Secret Evil Influence? Advancing the Unworthy by underhanded means? Seems like a common enough conspiracy to me. -

grb replied to Gugny's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Is there any way to tie this conspiracy theory to the "O-Line Threw the Chargers Game" conspiracy theory? I'm guessing there is - there are a lot of common elements. -
Here's something I bet Cleveland would really like : Fool everyone into believing Four is available on the open market to bluff Denver into trading from Five to Four. If the Broncos wanted the next quarterback bad enough to toss the Browns something just to move up one spot, then Cleveland still gets Chubb or Barkley, but with a bonus to boot......
-
These rumors are ninety percent meaningless and ten percent disinformation Speaking of which : I'm still not convinced the Giants pass on a quarterback if Darnold isn't available And Cleveland picks Darnold : This organization can't afford to go on "potential upside:. They play it as safe as possible because of their history. Cleveland won't trade out of Four. Cleveland's number Four is as likely to be Chubb as Barkley The Colts might trade out of Six however

Ravens Sign RGIII to a 1-Year Deal
grb replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was just about to post this link, but you beat me to it. RGIII wasn't completely blameless, but in no way deserved the hellish dysfunctional mess that was the Redskins. When your own coach uses you as a sacrificial pawn to get fired (and collect all the money left on his contract), you know you're in a crap situation. When Dan Snyder decides to adopt you as his best buddy, good luck. One of interesting things about the link is you get to see Cousins come in for Griffin and soon after get benched for Colt McCoy. No matter how good Cousins played afterwards the team (and many fans) could never entirely forget back when they decided he didn't measure-up. That lingering perception fueled years of bungling until they eventually drove Cousins off. -
I don't think they get the last word........

You just don't get it, do you? Yeah; Taylor regressed - after the team dumped Hogan, dumped Gillislee, watched Percy & Karlos self-destruct, dumped Watkins, dumped Woods, dumped Goodwin, scared away Boldin, and perversely sabotaged their own league-leading running game by scheme change. But given that's all water over the dam, I'm here to give you the Good News, and the Bad News: Good News : Taylor is gone. But that's not because he was the worstest quarterback ever to exist in the known universe (or whatever grumpy shtick you're selling these days), but because the Bills will now finally get serious about building a team on the offense side of the ball. I saw a mock that had the team trade-up for their golden-boy qb, and immediately use a first round pick on a receiver. "Having got their quarterback", the mock intoned, "they want to make sure they don't set him up to fail". Well, guess what : The Bills didn't give the slightest trace of a damn if they set Taylor up to fail in '17. They were too busy stockpiling draft picks to replace him. The reason they traded his top target for a gimpy Eagles throw-away wasn't because SW was "too into his statistics", it was for a second round pick. The only reason they traded for Benjamin mid-season was they unexpectedly found themselves in the playoff hunt and decided to do something - almost against their will it seemed. But post-Draft-Day, the team will have their "future" in a shinny new quarterback. Suddenly they'll care if the o-line can't pass protect worth a damn. Suddenly they'll realize McCoy needs more help than gawdforsaken Tolbert. Suddenly they'll want a starting tight end who can actually practice. And suddenly they look for better receivers than cripples, cast-offs, and a rook who resembles the deer in the headlights. That's the good thing about the "future" - you actually want to invest in it. Bad News : Taylor is gone, but I guarantee the Great Tyrod Message Board War will continue on this battlefield. And, dude, don't be surprised if you find it bruising......

FYI : Taylor had Watkins and Woods on the field only fifteen games over two years. When he did? 63.6% comp. 8.25 Ypa. 27 TD passes. 6 Ints A lot more than three instances, huh?
-
This seems to be ShadyBillsFan's latest mantra, and I confess it's extremely effective. Four awful games !!! I don't see how anyone can stand for that; someone who has four "awful games" surely must be shown the door, right? Say this McCoy guy : Carolina : 12 carries, 9 yards, .8 ypc Denver : 14 carries, 21 yards, 1.5 ypc Jets : 12 carries, 25 yards, 2.1 ypc Miami : 20 carries, 50 yards, 2.5 ypc Miami : 11 carries, 10 yards, .9 ypc Of course he was out with an injury in the third quarter of the last Miami game, so that's not fair. In fact, the whole damn list isn't fair. LeSean made big plays throughout the year critical to the team's victories. And the problems he had over the season were rooted in bungling by the coaches, who insisted on screwing-up a league-leading rushing game with useless scheme change. So yeah: Not fair. Of course you could make very similar points about Taylor, couldn't you? He was saddled with poor pass protection, a hideous OC, and saw his receiver corps completely gutted preseason; then replaced with cripples, cast-offs, and one deer-in-the-headlights rookie. I'm certain ShadyBillsFan is willing to be fair about all that, right?
-
Two points : OK. It was his first start, so we aren't supposed to count it. This is what NP did post-Chargers : 12-28, 43% 121 yds 4.32 ypa 1 td 1 int 2 fumbles. Feel better? Making correct reads? Throwing with anticipation? Peterman wasn't "trying to do too much". He was throwing-up blind prayers - and those prayers were rag-arm wounded ducks. How in God's name does Nathan Peterman get credit for being a decisive clear-thinking razor-sharp football mind when he's probably made more idiotic decisions per play than any other NFL player in living memory? There seems to be an awful lot of football virtues which NP has acquired by default - without a scintilla of evidence, way beyond even wishful thinking, just by default.
-
ShadyBillsFan wants us to know Taylor had three whole games with a QB rating under 45. Aside from forever and again posting Peterman's garbage-time stats against the Saints (and has any stats ever been more garbage-time?), this is Shady's clincher point : Taylor had three whole games with a QB rating under 45. Sounds pretty bad, but you know what's worse? Having an entire season with a qb rating under 45 !!! I give you Nate Peterman, 2017 : 24-49, 49%, 252 yds, 5.14 ypa, 2 tds, 21 yds longest completion, 5 int, 38.4 qb rating You know what's really hilarious? Those numbers include the garbage-time stats Shady is so, so very proud of. Without'em I honestly think Peterman would have had a negative qb rating, if such a thing is mathematically possible. But the ironies don't stop there. Shady wants us to know Taylor had a QB rating under 40 against Jacksonville. Sounds pretty bad, but you know what's worse? Having a single digit qb rating in the same game !!! I give you Nate Peterman, 1-3, 33%, 14 yds, 4.67 ypa, 0 tds, 1 int, 9.7 qb rating Of course, lets be fair : Nate only had four plays - during which he tallied one fumble, one intentional grounding, one interception. So here's my question : What the hell did Taylor ever to ShadyBillsFan anyway - to result in such molar-grinding, spittle-spraying, blood-vessel-popping hate ?!? My guess? TT either keyed his car, kicked his dog, or stole his gal. It's the only answer which makes sense......

Projection Projection (Psychological) 1) An unconscious self-defense mechanism characterized by a person unconsciously attributing their own issues onto someone or something else as a form of delusion and denial. "Projection" can't be any more clearer than this. Here we have an entire thread on a wackadoodle conspiracy theory to excuse Peterman's hidious play. That is cult-like behavior at it's most extreme, delusional, and bizarre.
-
Uh huh. Presumably they threw the Jets game too, right? I wonder if we can "convince you" to explain why Taylor was under immediate and brutal pressure continually throughout that game. Also : What's your take on the o-line and the Kennedy assassination? Do you think all five of them were lurking behind the grassy knoll?

Browns Sign QB Drew Stanton to a 2-Year Deal
grb replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Obviously this. Jackson was harshly criticized for playing Kizer before the rookie was ready, and it looks like HJ believes the criticism was warranted. That would explain how emphatic he's been the incoming rookie will sit. Plus, as noted above, Stanton is a solid backup if Darnold is ready in '19, and Taylor moves on. Also, Stanton may have sold himself as a mentor to Darnold behind the scenes. -
Fiction - Taylor made Oline look better
grb replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ya know, Taylor is gone, but still he manages to inspire the colossal stupid of comments like this. Lets start with the simplest stuff : First, Foles' epic 2013 season did not result in him being "a backup ever since". He started the following year in Philadelphia, and the year after that in Los Angles. Second, Foles' epic 2013 season has only been bettered twice in the past twenty years by NFL passer rating, once by Aaron Rogers, once by Peyton Manning. And that's the yardstick you aim to measure Taylor by, huh? Why should anyone take you seriously? Finally, you ignore the obvious thing of all : Someone said Taylor didn't utilize Watkins and Woods. I provided evidence he did. God only knows what relevance Nick's 2013 season has to that. Perhaps you'll explain. Good luck trying. To return to Planet Earth, let's take Taylor's numbers those (15) games the Bills put two NFL grade receivers on the field with him, and compare to the recently concluded (16) game regular season. Now is this apples to apples? No; because other QBs had critical support players missing too. But given it's nowhere near as ludicrous a comparison as yours, why not? 63.6% Completion Rate : Only thirteenth, I'm afraid, in front of Dak Prescott 8.25 Yards per Attempt : First in the NFL, in front of Drew Brees 27 Touchdown Passes : Eighth in the NFL, a tie with Kirk Cousins 06 Interceptions : Second in the NFL, after Alex Smith It appears that 2013 Nick Foles aside, Taylor performed quite well during the limited time his receivers weren't castoffs, cripples, or disappointing draft picks. Which was my point, wasn't it? -

Is there a rush to judgement on Peterman?
grb replied to Sky Diver's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You've got it bassackwards. Taylor supporters have no "source of energy" over Mr. Peterman. We don't have any "emotional trauma" over the benching. We thought it moronic and were proved right. It's kinda hard to be traumatized when you're incredibly obviously blatantly completely 100% correct. All the snowflake symptoms here come from the other side - from the people embarrassed and wrong. They're the ones arguing that a fumble, intentional grounding, and interception in four plays was a "solid outing", or that 54.4% completion with 5.7 ypa and 28 yards as longest completion constitutes a "fantastic preseason", or that 5-10 for 57 Yards is a heroic game, whatever the weather. Look, we get it: Poor Nate was the un-Taylor, and thus a cult was born. But Tyrod is gone and Nate is heading for the practice squad, so what's the point of so much comic aggrandizement? Stand by Your Man worked for Tammy Wynette, but here it looks pretty damn silly...... -
Is there a rush to judgement on Peterman?
grb replied to Sky Diver's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
"Peterman will probably look fantastic in Preseason similarly to last year" NP's "fantastic" preseason : 43-79, 54.4% 453 yds, 5.7 ypa, 1 td, 0 int, 28 yd longest completion, 4 sacks, 75.6 rating -

Tyrod's stats in the 15 games when he had Watkins and Woods on the field : 63.6% comp. 8.25 Ypa. 27 TD passes. 6 Ints Next question? -
Yes, it was a tough situation. But as I remember, in four plays NP had : One fumble One intentional grounding penalty One interception

Why not? Eli is in the last stages of his career and when will the Giants get a better shot at his replacement?
