NFL.com: AFC East Rookie Grades - Bills Earn a B Grade
grb replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Pun of the day, hands down..... I heard the recent drop in the stock market was Tyrod's fault. And the North Korean missile crisis? That has Taylor's fingerprints all over it. Is there no end to the man's villainy ?!? -
Matt Harmon: Best Tight-Window Passers of 2017
grb replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Uh huh: 30th in passing attempts by team in 2016 31 in passing attempts by team in 2015 Four Points : So throwing less results in less yards? Funny that.... To anticipate a response : The Bills announced themselves a heavily run-first team before Taylor was even signed, much less the starter Fun fact : You know who averaged even less attempts than Taylor in '15? Teddy Bridgewater. Wait 'til he's throwing to Zay & Brandon, huh? A Bills fan whining about Taylor's playoff record as a Bill !!! Hate drives people to say the most foolish things...... -

If you insist : 63.6% comp. 8.25 YPA. 27 TD passes. 6 INTs It's the 8.25 number that's really exceptional. You rarely see that number so high. In fact, using this year's (16) game regular season as a benchmark, no other quarterback's ypa was that large. I admit that's not apples to apples without factoring-in injuries to other quarterback's targets, but it's exceptional for any fifteen game stretch irregardless. Really makes those people claiming TT won't throw downfield look like fools........ Which brings us to the whole point of this exercise : Responding to all those long lists of Taylor's supposed irredeemable flaws. Kinda funny how those "flaws" disappeared when the Bills fielded two good receivers, huh? -

Alright; we'll do it your way : Taylor "sucks" - except when he has NFL-grade receivers to throw to. Then he doesn't "suck". But I imagine you might say that about a lot of quarterbacks........... -

And yet, during 2015 & 2016 whenever he had Woods and Watkins on the field, this happened : 63.6% comp. 8.25 YPA. 27 TD passes. 6 INTs Which isn't bad. This was over (15) games, over (2) years. Incidentally, three of those picks were from Taylor's second game starting, against the Patriots. So let's sum up with a Grand Unified Theory of Taylor : He can't read the field, except when he has NFL-grade receivers to throw to. He doesn't understand coverages, except when he has NFL-grade receivers to throw to He doesn't throw the ball downfield, except when he has NFL-grade receivers to throw to He doesn't throw to his receivers, except when he has NFL-grade receivers to throw to He doesn't throw touchdowns, except when he has NFL-grade receivers to throw to Etc, etc, etc. People keep coming up with a laundry list of things Taylor is supposedly incapable of, but - surprise! - he seemed damn capable before the offense was stripped out from under him, both by injuries and the team's tendency to dump talent in a firesale. Hell, I'd go so far as to guess there was even some "throwing with anticipation" in the numbers above - everybody's favorite buzz-words cliche..... -
Tyrod wants to “Continue to be accurate..”
grb replied to stevestojan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Really? That's the best you can do? The numbers I quoted are still there - making you look foolish. I will say this : It's interesting that Taylor used Watkins as his One & Woods as his Two, whereas Goff uses Woods as his One & Watkins as his Two. That's interesting, and I'm sure someone knowledgeable about football would have fascinating things to say about it. Not you of course; you're pretty useless for that sort of thing..... -

This one never gets old : Taylor in 2015 & 2016 whenever he had Watkins and Woods to throw to : 63.6% comp. 8.25 YPA. 27 TD passes. 6 INTs That's over two years and fifteen games total. Funny how "Captain Checkdown" disappeared whenever the Bills could field two NFL-grade receivers, huh? -
Just on this, three points : What's the evidence Watkins was a bad locker room presence or didn't play hard? Sorry, his "confession" that he became caught up in his own success and stats doesn't move the needle very much. It's good he's moved beyond it, but in turns of wide receiver diva behavior, that doesn't make the top twenty list. Also : You might recall he played half of 2016 on a broken foot for the Bills. I'd think playing through pain counts for something when judging if someone is a "team player" Maybe "why he's gone" has more to do with the Bills concern over his injury history, certainty they couldn't resign him anyway, and desperation to stockpile draft choices for this year. That probably explains a lot more than SW's personality flaws. In fact, the whole shtick of explaining any move of the Bills' front office by the character defects of the player involved has gotten pretty tiresome. I remember when Jonathan Williams was cut people fell over themselves speculating on the ethical blemish which made him distasteful to McDermott. Really?

It's like a jihad against reality itself. Here's a reminder for the umpteenth time (plus one) : Over the two years of 2015 & 2016 whenever Taylor had Watkins and Woods on the field, this happened : 63.6% comp, 8.25 ypa, 27 TD passes, 6 ints. But it was 27 td passes over FIFTEEN GAMES, as was clearly noted. Is that great? Maybe not, but using the (sixteen game) 2017 regular season as a benchmark it would have tied for eighth, with Kirk Cousins. Now I admit that's an inexact comparison, because the quarterbacks above and below that 27 total also had time with receivers out. But I ran these numbers up-threat because someone said Taylor needed a "college type offense" to succeed, which was crudely stupid. And here? Let's be clear : The problem wasn't "talent wasted", but talent which wasn't on the field over half of 2016, with Watkins running on a broken foot those games he played. This was after the Bills dumped Hogan, gave up on Harven, and Karlos imploded. And that just sets-up 2017, when the Bills dumped Woods, dumped Goodwin, dumped Watkins, dumped Gillislee, and the o-line took a huge step back because of injuries and scheme-change. That last item being the reason Bills running backs totaled 14yds, 62yds, 28yds, and 47yds over the first nine games of the season. On pass protection they went from spotty to bad, though it took the Peterman start for a lot of people to see that. I'll leave complaints about the OC to others, though they're valid. Bring in Foles, Keenum, Bridgewater or McCarron and put them in the crap situation of the 2017 Bills offense and what will you get? I'm guessing you'll see ...... how does that go? ......... "talent wasted" -

What a hilarious rant. Here's a reminder for the umpteenth time : Over the two years of 2015 & 2016 whenever Taylor had Watkins and Woods on the field, this happened : 63.6% comp, 8.25 ypa, 27 TD passes, 6 ints. This was over (15) games, over (2) years, and without : A "college type offense" An "entirely different game of football" Any crippling burden from things "unnatural to him", whatever that drivel is supposed to mean. All it took was a decent pair of NFL-grade receivers to throw to. When he had that, there was - surprise! - no problem with his "thinking about everything". Ya know, today I saw another discussion about Foles on another site. A guy there made the valid point Foles has had a decent career if you exclude the stint with the Rams, and (to quote) "anybody would've struggled on that garbage '15 Rams team". Well, unless the Bills are able to dramatically upgrade their receivers, o-line, and back-up rbs, then you better be prepared for Foles to struggle on the garbage '18 Bills team. After all, anybody would....... -
Should we throw Peterman on the trash heap for 1 bad outing?
grb replied to Sky Diver's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There's almost no way to avoid this logic : The Bills will draft a QB with a high pick; he won't be cut The Bills will bring in a vet; McDermott will not go into a season w/ rookie & Peterman alone The Bills will not carry three quarterbacks - someone goes to the practice squad. Now it's just barely possible the veteran gets beaten out by Peterman, but highly unlikely. Why bring in a veteran who can't easily out-perform Peterman? -

Two points : I wonder where all these conspiracy theories were after the Thursday nite Jets game, where the o-line play was just as bad. "didn't kneel, etc, etc" Gee, I wonder where that came from....... -

Taylor's stats over two years whenever he had Watkins and Woods on the field : 63.6% comp. 8.25 YPA. 27 TD passes. 6 INTs So you've "already seen" exactly what......? I get the impression what you think you saw isn't in the same universe as what actually happened...... -

SaviorPeterman may be a troll, but damn if he doesn't create the most perversely entertaining threads..... -
Just to address this : In 2015, Taylor showed a fair degree of promise. In 2016, the team let Hogan go, Karlos imploded, everyone gave up on Harvin, Woods missed multiple games, and Watkins missed half the season. When Sammie did play, it was on a broken foot. Taylor spent a great deal of time throwing to Brandon Tate or Justin Hunter. He "regressed". In 2017, the team let Woods go, let Goodwin go, let Watkins go. They scared Boldin into fleeing after a commitment of only two weeks. They drafted a rookie receiver who looked every bit the overwhelmed rookie the entire season. They had a glut of slot receivers with the best of them - Matthews - injured off&on the entire season. They brought in Benjamin, who was then injured most of the remaining season. Injuries and scheme change brought a major deterioration in o-line play, whose pass protection hadn't been that good before. This even affected the running game, which now had games where the RBs had 14, 62, 28, and 42yds total. Taylor spent a great deal of time throwing to Brandon Tate or Deonte Thompson. Surprise, surprise, he "regressed" Two more points : Take (for example) Dak Prescott out of his cushy situation in Dallas and put him in the '17 Bills offense and you can damn well count on Dak regressing. Replace Derek Carr's awesome array of weapons with those of the Bills and - guess what - you'll see regression in abundance. The same is true of Dalton or Bortles. All four of them had a lower NFL passer rating than Taylor this past season anyway. It never hurts to remember how Taylor played in 2015 & 2016 the 15 games when he had both Watkins and Woods to throw to : 63.6% comp. 8.25 YPA. 27 TD passes. 6 Ints. It's amazing how little "regression" there was when he had a real pair of NFL receivers to throw to.....

Is this thread worth a bump when Taylor starts for an NFL team next year, and the year after that?

A little wit amongst all the invective, grumpiness and sniping. Good job, sir! -
Strange. I thought that's what Taylor threw to Benjamin on the goal line last Sunday. And how did that work out? Question : Did Bills receivers ever catch any passes thrown into a one-on-one situation, where they had to fight for the ball? Everyone likes to repeat the cliche Taylor wouldn't attempt those, but he he did throw some. But I honestly can't remember a single instance where it resulted in a Bills' catch. Of course this is probably an easy test for people with a better memory than me, but I just don't recall much success there. Maybe that's why Taylor threw so few.....
