  1. Since you asked - Thomas, Hopkins, Hill, Jones, Evans, Adams, Beckham, Godwin, Allen, Golladay were ranked higher - so he came in #11. Thielen, AJ Brown and Ju-Ju were the next three. He had a legitimate case to be ranked as high as #7 ahead of Beckham, Godwin, Allen and Golladay - but could also have been ranked after the next three at #14. The stat cited in the article is
  2. I dont have too much beef with ESPN on just having 2 players up there. The key point is that the way the roster has been constructed, Bills will be disproportionately represented higher in the next 100. Our depth in terms of good, but not great players will be our calling card. Dawkins, Hughes, Milano, Morse, Brown, Hyde, Poyer and Beasley will likely never crack the list but will be perennially in the next 100 list. That being said, if all goes to plan, Allen, Edmunds, Singletary, Oliver and maybe, even Knox, should be joining White and Diggs in the 2021 list.
  3. This is no doubt the trend. But there is some value to bucking the trend as well. For example, Seattle had success for years with just having a single safety Earl Thomas patrolling the deep. Just last year, the Pats had the #1 rated defense last year with Cover 0 - they left the entire deep back open and challenged QBs to beat them by throwing deep and had a lot of success. That is the beauty of football - offenses and defenses each have to pick their poison - go heavy on one dimension and you are liable to get beaten on the other side. This is a constantly evolving chess game.
  4. There was some debate on who was at fault - but here it is from Gilmore himself - they were in MAN Coverage! https://twitter.com/NickBSharp/status/1208816570287284224/photo/1
  5. So John Brown beat Gilmore so badly - the latter was not even the nearest defender:)
  6. https://mobile.twitter.com/RapSheet/status/1300524412102496258 he got 7.5 mill - a bit too rich for us, IMO
  7. He is a man coverage guy. I think he will be a misfit in a zone coverage scheme.
  8. I am afraid you are wrong this time sir. What they bring is not worth the cost - 1.5 mill and 1.75 mill, respectively, in cap room and more importantly, in roster spots. For just being a blocker, Lee Smith committed penalties at an alarming rate - that too false starts which are drive killers. Now if Kroft's injury is serious, I can see him getting a new lease on life as a Bill - but DiMarco has been out the past two weeks with a sore neck. Unclear how he makes it to the 53 ahead of Gilliam, who never misses games. Also Gilliam has done well in camp. The real culture McD is building is based on competition and performance. It is a myth that "intangibles" will outweigh performance. huh? Please tell me which fantasy player will be concerned with a Reggie Gilliam who I am advocating for.
  9. Barring injuries, Oliver, Jefferson and Butler are locks. Havent heard much about 'orrible 'arry or Taylor during TC - so maybe one of those two.
  10. If that happens, there would be no doubt these guys have something on McD.
  11. Reggie Gilliam listed as aTE is not a surprise at all. I felt like he is the Dawson Knox of the 2020 Draft - someone who was so underutilized in the passing game at Toledo. Bonus - the guy can play ST. Given his positional versatility - FB / TE / ST, he is my dark horse candidate to make the 53 at some time during the season. Edit: Dark Horse #2, Dark Horse #1 is Tanzel Smart.
  12. OK - Gilliam is an upgrade over both Lee Smith at TE and DiMarco at FB. If he takes the spot of either one of them (maybe both), what is not to like?
  13. I didnt know Lara Croft's brother played for the Bills:) Coupled with Sweeney being PUP, this news makes Lee Smith a lock for the roster I guess (that man has more lives than a cat, I tell ya). Unless ---- **drumroll please** the team feels Duke Williams can play makeshift TE - he can already chip with the best of them - only issue is can he get low down enough on blocks?
  14. Umm. Just because he got beat out by a rookie doesnt mean Hauschka is washed up (rather it sepaks to how good the rook is). Hauschka kicked a 47 yarder to tie our last playoff game with seconds left. And, he does have tryouts lined up. I know of at least one by the Titans.
  15. Fair enough. Based on the draft picks, all we know is that Belichick had Rohrwasser rated higher. I think there have been other quotes by Farwell indicating Bass was their top choice.
  16. I am in two minds whether we want him. There is of course a familiarity with Farwell's system. But, I am trying to whittle down players before cut day and giving me more choices makes me mad. ? I am not sure he is an upgrade over Tyler Matakevich who is a ST tackling monster. Additionally Matakevich can step in play LB for us (I saw him play when he was at Temple and he was very good). I am not sure Andre Smith has the versatility to play LB at a high level if needed. Edit: Oh and a small bit of useless trivia about Andre Smith - Carolina actually selected him in the 7th round of the 2018 draft using the pick Buffalo sent them in the Kelvin Benjamin Trade.
  17. With all due respect, I disagree. Both Wade and Jones are hurt and Antonio Williams has extensive ST experience during his UNC days. I suspect he is going to see a lot of ST during his time here rather than at RB.
  18. Bills selected Bass in Round 6 -but nearly 30 picks earlier (in Round 5) Belichick selected Rohrwasser. Fast forward 4 months - Bass has won the starter job for the Bills besting Hauschka. The Pats, on the other hand, are bringing in Nick Folk to compete with Rohrwasser (suggesting Rohrwasser is not yet ready). https://www.patriots.com/news/patriots-re-sign-k-nick-folk-sign-dl-michael-barnett Kicker is one of the few positions on the team where talent and mental fortitude are the only criteria - you don’t have to worry about the player’s fit with the offensive and defensive schemes of the team. And Belichick’s ST evaluation is generally regarded as second to none. Just wanted to highlight our own staff’s superiority in scouting and drafting in this particular instance. Edit: Found this nugget about why Belichick picked Rohrwasser https://www.si.com/nfl/patriots/gm-report/why-patriots-chose-justin-rohrwasser we will know when the weather turns south .. but in good weather it does appear Bass is superior.
  19. that cannot be true. i thought the new rules made the franchise tender unrestructurable after july 2015 no? thta is why i think they will cut / restructure somebody else - and my guesses were Harrison Smith and / or Riley Reiff i guess maybe they allowed the player to take less than the tender amount and Ngakoue was willing to eat 4.8 mill just to get out. just a 2nd and 5th and a 5 mill pay cut - Beane whatcha doing man? ?
  20. just to complete the thought - a. they couldn’t keep all the players due to cap considerations b. they did receive decent trade compensation from the Bills c. Diggs was publicly unhappy and wanted a trade i think they decided based on TC performance that Reiff or Smith are not worth keeping - they did not know it at that time maybe? your questions are valid - i am also puzzled - the above is just my attempt at rationalizing
  21. i guess this just means they are cutting or restructuring Riley Reiff and / or Harrison Smith. I always considered Smith to be too valuable for the Vikes - so Riley is a more likely candidate. But maybe someone performed better in TC making the decision easier.
  22. i am puzzled. i never considered the Vikes since they don’t have cap space to accommodate the Tag deal. Wonder how they can do it.
  23. Jags may not hv traded Ngakoue within the conference for the same trade package. opportunity missed only if a, bills wanted him and b. Beane did not try - no evidence of the latter
  24. That analysis is slightly flawed - the key number for some players is not the cap hit but the deadcap since the team can walk away from several contracts like Butler, Jefferson, Hughes, Klein etc. with minimal cap hits. Beane has done a good job frontloading a lot of the FA contracts from this year -so they are not a drain on future cap space. Additionally, we always have the option to take the Philly, KC or Saints approach and restructure deals to reduce cap hits in 2021. Bottomline; our cap situation next year is very fine - we can easily sign a Clowney or Ngakoue without batting an eyelid - though Beane will refer to the potential reduced cap in public at every opportunity since it is useful in negotiating contract extensions.
  25. Since our resident Walter Cronkite (yoloinohio) is probably catching a bit of shuteye - thought I’d post this nugget https://buffalonews.com/sports/bills/bills-host-four-defensive-tackles-for-tryouts/article_82f6334c-e972-11ea-8655-5f0fc0d18516.html I suspect they are not happy with the second team interior line depth after Allen passed for 312 yards in 2.5 qtrs in the scrimmage
