Even if it's at Applebees, it's a nationally televised game and will be on everywhere. . Congrats on leaving Portland. I was there 2 months ago and it was like I was on an episode of the Walking Dead. Junkies on the sidewalks and in tents everywhere. I was staying at a hotel downtown.

Tyler Bass who has as strong leg as you can have had 56% of his kicks of his touchbacks. But the core ST guys aren’t really contributing on the offense/defensive field a significant amount as back ups. Many not at all. My theory is if you’re going to have a 3rd stringer who never really sees the field, look for those who have strong special team’s ability.

Its not just blocked punts which are rare. Its field position. Given up an extra 10 or yards on a return multiple times a game can hurt. An opponent average starting field position from the 25 instead of the 35 makes a difference.

It takes just one play to completely change the outcome of the game. You don’t want to lose games on a special teams mishap.

Just because you don’t see an impact doesn’t mean they’re impactful. A gunnner who causes a fair catch instead of KR gaining 25 yards is impactful. Or a guy staying disciplined in his lane keeps a huge play from happening. The Music City Miracle happened because everybody ran towards the ball and didn’t stay in their lanes. The entire left side of the field has zero Bills there. A ST guy missing an assignment and giving up a blocked punt like the Steelers game…cost us a lot. 2 years ago the special teams unit cost ruined the Chargers season.
