Buddy already chose his interim solution. His name is Trent Edwards. But I guess Buddy could take the tractor out to the Quarterback Orchard and pick one off the tree. There are just so many great ones available out there this time of year. BTW, Nix took a huge leap up my chart when he said McNabb isn't his type of QB.

You need to watch this video

He doesn't have to be good enough to make those teams, just a lot better than Green. -
To rephrase your criticism, everything that's wrong with the Bills comes down to "too old" and "not good enough." Bell, Levitre, Wood, Spiller, Lynch, Johnson, Nelson, Hangartner, Parrish, Stupar and Trent Edwards are key starters on offense (we'll have another when Shawn Nelson's suspension ends). Parrish and Hangartner are 28; the rest of them are younger. Way younger. They all may be "not good enough" as you say, but they're hardly too old. Heck, even TE is only 26. And Brohm's just 24.

Now calm down, Grandpa. Next you'll be tellin' them hippie types to stop playing that rock and roll noise. Harrumph!

First off, I'm not sure you're correct about wide receiver as a position of real need. I think Johnson, Nelson and Parrish are going to do just fine. As to LT, well, it's kinda late in the day for that. The chief characteristic of a good line is playing together consistently over a fairly long period of time. The current Bills line has been working and practicing together for months and months, and with the exception of Green, for well over a year now. Do you really think you can just plug McNeil in and everything's going to be better? Keep in mind that Nix knows these two guys far, far better than you or I do, and apparently didn't try to pick them up for the Bills. The area of real concern for me continues to be LB. And today it got even more worrisome with Mitchell being put on IR and Torbor out for Sunday.

And who exactly did OJ murder?

Elite to me means being in, say, the top five at your position in the league. I'd put Moorman, Lindell, McGee, Williams, Jackson (wasn't he tops in the league in overall yards? How freakin' valuable is that?) in there. And though he had only an injury shortened rookie season, I think Byrd belongs in that group and will prove that this season. I also have no doubt that Spiller is going to be a star.

I've noticed that a lot of the kids they've drafted in the last couple of years seem to be high-quality people who don't make excuses, or do any of the "Me, me, me" stuff. There is a humility about them that I like very much, a professional "git 'er done" attitude. And they all seem to focus on team.

I like Bakay but he's drunk the Kool-Aid. "For starters, every other team in the AFC East is playoff-caliber and got better." That's just plain wrong. The Dolphins and Jets are playoff quality? The Patriots got better? And who GAF what Mike Lombardi thinks. If Spiller, Jackson, Moorman, Lindell and the secondary don't qualify as quality, how can you take the guy seriously? He's an imbecile. 10-6.

Will a Bill rush for 1,000 yards in 2010?
yungmack replied to DDD's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The more telling stat will be All Purpose Yards. -
A victory by the Bills with the best NE players on the field will be much more rewarding.

The best football announcers of all time? A toss-up between Lindsey Nelson and Keith Jackson, with props to Van Miller in his prime.

Jets did not sell out their opener
yungmack replied to Just Jack's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There are also about 40x's as many people in their market to sell to. That they can't sell out is just another indication that the NFL (and perhaps all major sports) have plateaued. The Big Money days are coming to an end as the population shrinks and grows poorer. Ralph could do his family a favor by dying this year (huge savings on estate taxes...about $500 million for the family)which would let them sell out at the top of the market. -
Oh Boise A 2011 QB Consideration ??

He's already on the scouts watchlist. And has been. -
Try to find one close to a divorce attorney's office. Save yourself some time.

It appears to be a full version of The Sports Xchange article. Don't know if he still does it, but Allen Wilson used to write those.

I may be misreading your post, but I don't think that because players get hurt that that makes for "a bad draft." The only two busts right now are Brown (training camp fodder) and Calloway, both 7th rounders. As for the rest of the draft picks, they all either made the team or, in the case of those who are injured, looked to be headed towards making it. Considering the history of the Bills upper round picks (I don't have to go into that, do I?), this alone makes the 2010 draft one for celebration.

Always, always, always -- and no matter who they're playing -- I want to see the Cowboys crushed and humiliated. Always, always, always. Oh, and any team Jimmy Johnson is associated with.

Way back when, early in the new Nix Regime, Buddy said they'd have FOUR QBs in camp. That's what Levi was. Did he have a shot to make the team? Sure. But he wasn't good enough to beat out the other three. And the Bills have too many needs to carry a fourth QB on the PS. The players who were cut that puzzle me are Calloway, who I thought was serviceable as a back-up on a very thin squad, and Chad Jackson, who was essentially replaced with a post-cut FA. And I really have no idea why David Jones made the squad unless it's for Special Teams. He seemed to be one guy who Hardy outplayed.

Excellent post.

Your assessment is very close to my own. I don't believe the Fins or the Jets are for real, or fundamentally better than the Bills, and NE is no where near the NE of five or six years ago. I think the AFCE is wide open though I don't know if the Bills are better enough to take advantage of it. But it is a toss-up this year and could go any of several ways. Personally, I think your pick of the Bills to go 5-1 in the division is do-able. GB, Baltimore and Minnesota are, I believe, just plain all around better than the Bills. Of course, "on any given Sunday" any team can pull an upset. But these are three very likely losses. Browns, Bears, Jags and Chiefs are very winnable. Will they sweep all four? I choose the optimistic approach and say they will. Still, ya gots ta play the games. As to Pittsburgh and Cincy, I think I'd flip-flop these two. In my opinion, Cincy is not much different overall than the Bills, and certainly not above them. Again, this is a toss-up game but I think the Bills win it. The Pittsburgh game, on the other hand, is late enough in the season that Big Ben should be back to form, or at least not be a negative behind center. Again, a toss-up but I pick the Steelers to win this one. IF the Bills stay healthy; IF the LBs improve, and IF Special Teams gels, then I think the Bills surprise a whole lot of people. My guess: the Bills go 10-6. They make the playoffs by winning the AFCE. After that, it depends upon the Match-Up Gods.

Former Bills not sticking with new teams
yungmack replied to I_want_2_BILL_Lieve's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Who would he replace? BTW, how are Coy Wire, Jim Leonhard and Wendling doing? -
It would be nuts to start shuffling your starting line the week before the season begins and Gailey ain't nuts. Wood will be in the guard position and Urbik will be on the bench (which is good news to me...the depth of the line's been worrisome). He's in Buffalo to back up. Later in the season, who knows?
-
And I agree with you! Based on what Gailey stresses in his interviews about "his" kind of players, my guess is he wants big, fast and nasty LBs. I'm not sure Poz (who can't seem to stay healthy, aka, "available to play"), Mitchell or Ellison meet his criteria but "they'll do" for this year.
