Josh = Phil Rivers (just messenger)
Billzgobowlin replied to Over 29 years of fanhood's topic in The Stadium Wall
If you throw at either of those two what this team has faced this year they would have both lost -
I'm kind of meh about this. Yes he's a good coach but I think the defense overperformed last year.Does anybody know if they have to switch their defensive front? Fangio does a 3-4 primarily correct?

To some extent you are right but you are also wrong. A pulled hammy that takes a 3 months to heal might be an excuse to not play but a torn hammy while might be considered an excuse when it is actually is a viable reason. This year was a torn hamstring in both legs when Damar went down. Anything before that would have been an excuse. That being said I think Beane said something interesting that if they actually played the whole Bengals game when Damar went down they would have been able to plan better for them in the playoffs. That to me is a problem. That's already worn out from the end of the year. They look stupid now picking fights with everyone

For one day, you are the Boss: what you do ?
Billzgobowlin replied to Italian Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall
You DON'T make wholesale changes to a 13-3 team that was three wins from winning it all. Keep everyone and bring back a healthier Tre White, Micah Hyde and Von Miller, an undervalued Beasley and add in the draft. Oh and fix the interior of the offensive line. Bates at Center and a new Guard or two. -
I think in ways it played better. The RBs were more of the offense this year but pass blocking was worse. Could be he needs more of his type of players. Do we really need another WR? I don't think ability is the issue. Also I don't see Edmunds as irreplaceable. He was better this year but he has had major lapses in the past.

Bills Coaching Staff Changes Thread

Mcdermott should be the one calling defensive plays, he is flat out better at it but he also has to coach the whole team. -
Old Buffalo Bills Message Board
Billzgobowlin replied to Floridagatorsbuffalobills's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yes. I think this is where most of the old members from that board are. It isn't the same here but I definitely get my Bills fix here Yes that was slammer. -
I think he has some great time left but can't afford to pay him what he wants. I think he did well injured but I truly believe Hamlin hit him hardest. Between him losing Hyde and Hamlin he just ran out of gas at the end.

I don't see how we can resign Poyer and Edmunds and do anything else including signing rookies we draft. I do think Morse is done because of cap situations and Bates moves to Center. I don't see a reunion with Saffold unless he is taking a very low deal. We will draft oline and RB to replace Singletary. I don't see any WR coming that's new. Cole will be resigned but I don't see Mckenzie staying, Hines will replace his snaps. On defense I see them moving Benford over to safety and maybe drafting one and resigning Marlowe. I think in all honesty they like the Dline but too many snaps lost to injury. I see a moderately good to great Guard and draft a tackle mid round. I also see a LB drafted and signed and Klein coming back. Edmunds is better than Klein but Edmunds is going to get overpaid.

I would say a little bit but coming in mid-season he has an offense to learn and it's possible he wasn't prepared for most packages

I’m over this defensive scheme. Bring in a new DC.
Billzgobowlin replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall
This defense is really good but it's just not creative and with the attrition on defense most of the year the best way to make up for it is to do something different like the Bengals did. I think Leslie is a sound DC, probably one of the best in the league but he has very little to add with creativity. -
Saffold said guys were "exhausted" this week and "out of gas"
Billzgobowlin replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
I started a thread yesterday stating the same thing and I do think it is important to have perspective on this. Josh is an emotional leader and him being down makes a huge difference. Having said that a good portion of the team played the way they have all year. We found out how bad a non-pressure defense could be when we don't have anyone on the backend with Poyer, Hamlin and Hyde out for good parts of it. I want to say also some guys it was obvious they were completely done, Poyer, Allen and to an extent Dawkins looked done. With Miller and Hyde already out I think they didn't stand a chance. -
I think obtaining a true Number 1 RB will move this offense to the next level. Not drafting Breece Hall last year I think was a big mistake.

Both the same year. I know what you are thinking and yes the Sabres won't win it this year but next year let's get it lol

13 Seconds Will Sting for a While Longer...
Billzgobowlin replied to BuffaloBaumer's topic in The Stadium Wall
Last years playoff team was far superior offensively than this years. I wouldn't automatically assume the effort yesterday would have led to the same result last year -
I'm almost wondering if it is better to move on from Morse and just give the Center to Bates. Also I would sign Boettger. As far as the rest give me Cole for another year with him being in the offensive scheme. Yes to Klein, Phillips, Lawson and Marlowe but no one else.

Bills players were done with this year
Billzgobowlin replied to Billzgobowlin's topic in The Stadium Wall
Not what I was saying as all. It wasn't they weren't in the mood. They were flat out done. You notice how few people talked to the media at the end of the year. Josh was done -

Billzgobowlin replied to Billzgobowlin's topic in The Stadium Wall
Micah Hyde and Roger Saffold both said today they just felt the team “ran out of gas” with everything that went on this season. Micah even said he was speaking from an outside observer, watching them go through it all as he wasn’t playing. Both made it clear it was not an excuse. Saffold: It was emotionally draining. I kinda feel like we were tired. Guys were exhausted during the week and our coaches did the best they could at trying to modify the week to get us back to snuff.… Two people one that wasn't even playing disagree. I know they get paid a lot and all but still they are human. Wish people would see the optimism for next year. No other team even came close to the drama and I bet some posting on here would fold under much less pressure. -
Upgrading talent on the O line would be helpful but I think a playmaker that cares about winning as much as Josh would be nice. Would Bijan Robinson be that player....

Bills players were done with this year
Billzgobowlin replied to Billzgobowlin's topic in The Stadium Wall
Interesting take. What if the coach is maxed too? I'm trying to ride the fine line of excuses and understanding but I think this team was done and when Josh looks like that before a game, we aren't going to win. -
Eli Apple tried to be cool post game. He failed miserably
Billzgobowlin replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
Wrs weren't the issue, our line was. And Dawkins sounded bad trying to defend himself -

Billzgobowlin replied to Billzgobowlin's topic in The Stadium Wall
Again no excuses. They lost and they deserved to lose. They didn't play with passion. I'd love to be a fly on the wall in that locker room last week. I bet it just wasn't a focused Josh which generally brings up others around him. He got shook in Cincy if not before and the team other than Hines against the Patriots didn't show they wanted to play. I honestly believe the best thing for them this offseason is a mental reset. No excuses just optimism for the future
