What makes you think him playing really risks a complete tear that much? From what I understand the injury happened because of the really awkward way his hand was held at the back of his throwing motion and it injured a part of the elbow that would affect baseball pitchers more than QBs. And it seems if he's using different muscles and parts of his elbow while throwing there's not much risk of making the injury worse unless he gets hit in the exact same way, which is why you lean a little more on the run game, quick passes, and rolling pockets. I wouldn't say "he's 100% playing," but I think the evidence suggests he's a lot more likely to play than not. I don't understand the thought process of people like you who believe he's 100% not playing.

I said my reasoning earlier in the thread, but here are my reasons: 1) Josh injured his arm and then still threw 2 passes. Yes, the first pass he threw (3rd and 21) was when he grabbed his arm. But the next throw he chucked it 70 yards. 2) After that final throw the cameras showing him did not show him in pain grabbing his arm. 3) Compare that all with the similar injury he had in his rookie year against the Texans where he hurt it on one play and then on the next play when he threw it he was in obvious pain and pulled himself out of the game. 4) After the game he showed up and the PC without any ice or splint or anything on his elbow. Those are the reasons I wasn't really overly worried about any prognosis. It was clear it wasn't going to be as bad as his rookie year injury where he missed 4 games. So... that left the question of whether he would miss any. Then we get to the question of whether he'd miss any... 5) Reports yesterday from Rap and others that it was just a strain and Josh would probably play through it. 6) Diggs's tweet. Just a piece of the puzzle, but Diggs is sly on twitter so (I believe) it was clear he was saying something about Josh. 7) McDermott doesn't exactly have a history of saying "he's fine" when players have potential injuries, so of course he's erring on the side of caution. The day-to-day designation was at minimum what he was going to call. 8 Yes, reports are that Josh won't practice today. Might not tomorrow either. That's the part that I could say gives me pause, but why not err on the side of caution? It's not like Josh doesn't know the offense. If it's a minor sprain... those extra 1 or 2 days could give the opportunity for the elbow to heal even more... maybe to the point he doesn't feel any pain. 9) Like it or not, Buffalo DOES want (and would really benefit from) having the #1 seed and homefield advantage in the playoffs. I think the players know that. And I think McDermott does, too. Not a betting man, but I'd put money on Josh playing on Sunday.

So... I saw the update with McDermott saying "day to day" and I'm a little shocked at how many of you think Josh isn't playing Sunday? I'm assuming everyone is going on the previous "day to day" designations (Milano, White, etc.) and McDermott's choice to sit them? Said it earlier in this thread, but there was no way in hell this was ever going to come out as a "everything is rosy and Josh is fine" report from McDermott no matter what he heard from Josh or the Doctors. Day to day means he's playing, to me. Let him sit today and tomorrow and continue to treat the elbow. McDermott has no need to reveal that he thinks Josh will play, so why would he? One of the interesting things I read and saw was that with that injury, it's an awkward spot for a QB but it's really not hugely impacted by the throwing motion of a QB. And you could see that in the way his arm got hit. I expect Josh plays and Dorsey relies a little more on the running game, but not as much as people would expect. A lot of quick passes and rolling pockets to come. And give Josh the green light even moreso to run, because I'm sorry... this notion that Josh running will significantly shorten his career has already been challenged with what look like his 2 worst injuries inside the pocket in his rookie year and last week.

Thanks for posting that link and confirming how ridiculous you're being. Josh rolled out to the right and sees Knox 5 or 6 yards in front of the LOS. Ya know what else he sees and is probably the reason he chooses not to throw to Knox? Not 1. Not 2. But 3 defenders right around the 1st down marker... which was 15 yards from where Knox would have caught the ball. Plus there's another defender 11 yards beyond the marker. If you really thought a 1 on 4 scenario on 4th down was a better option on 4th and 21--literally an unthinkable 1st down scenario for most QBs--than the throw Josh made (which was a catchable ball that would have immediately put us in game-tying field position with the opportunity for more) then you don't know football.

Why would they tell us on Tuesday if they don't have to? This could be going one of 2 ways today and I think both will involve checks and rechecks because of the injury: Either Doctors are telling him he has to miss games or they're telling him he dodged a bullet Either way I guarantee they're testing him a lot with MRIs and Ultrasounds. I can't imagine a worst case scenario of him being out for the year. Remember his rookie year when he had a partial tear against the Texans and had to come out of the game because of pain? Allen stayed in against the Jets and threw that 70 yard bomb even after realizing he was hurt. I would bet Josh plays this week but we find out tomorrow... what time is McDermott's weekly presser?

I'm a little worried too, obviously, but based off Allen's last throw, what he said in his PC, the fact that he wasn't sitting in the PC with a cast on his arm or ice on his elbow, and now Rap's report, I'll be surprised if he doesn't play on Sunday. Can't imagine it's a serious sprain just based on the throw and his attitude (and naked arm) after the game at the PC. If he sits, he sits. But I think we averted disaster and people need to relax a bit. Josh will take this game as (what Von calls) good medicine and have an epic comeback game against the Vikings. The injury was frightening, but I think people are being a little doom and gloom despite the events after the injury.

I don't understand this thought process anymore. More serious injuries happen to QBs in the pocket. Yesterday was a good example. Also, the only injury he had that ever made him miss games was in the pocket in his rookie year. If anything, on that particular play I was actually thinking to myself while watching it that he would run because the pocket was collapsing on him. Let Josh go seek contact. Those in-pocket hits are what terrify me.

Yet Josh is still ahead of Mahomes in terms of total yards... and total TDs... and won the head to head. Certain posters are calling this race over, but the truth is Josh is still right up in front even if he's lost steam in the last 6 quarters. I expect a big bounce back game for him next week. And also... is anyone honestly expecting the Eagles to go undefeated even with that schedule? When they lose one or two, Hurts falls out of this conversation.

The "non-interception" by Edmunds

Another missed challenge by McDermott. The WR clearly didn't have any possession going to the ground. -
You absolutely do NOT cut Davis... but yes we should get Beckham.
-
I officially think we should go get him now. Davis has been a disappointment.

Oy, that was First game since I can't remember I'd primarily put on Josh for the L. If we're being even and honest about this game, though: it was a divisional road game against a surprisingly good (and probably overachiever) team with 2 of our best defenders out due to injury. I won't speak for the rest of Bills Mafia, but I think I overrated our offensive weapons. Thought Knox would be a top 10 TE this year. He's not. Diggs is absolutely one of the top 3-5 WRs in the NFL, but I really though Davis was about to prove he's a 1B to Diggs this year and now I don't even know if he's a good #2. Yeah that last play he couldn't catch it because of the defender (DPI???) but there was a 3rd and long play where Josh put it right on him as he was coming back to the football and he dropped it. Not an easy catch, but an NFL WR should catch that. He's had too many of those lately. Starting to jump on the Odel Beckam train... On a final note related to all the "Josh shouldn't run so much! It'll shorten his career!"... Injury today on a passing play... But hey... with Josh there's still always some positive: 8 picks
