Duke Williams impressing again...activate him!
transplantbillsfan replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Is it warranted? Possibly, though it's not like he plays any of them very well. Is the phrase Jack or Pauper of all trades? It'd be nice if he did things WRs are supposed to do At a decent level. Because while it's merely preseason and practice, he makes contested catches we've NEVER seen Zay make in games, preseason or practice. Zay's propensity to not come down with the football has hurt his team in the past and, if the dropsies keep up, could hurt the team this year. If his primary function is as a blocker, that's something else we saw a lot of promise in for Duke in the preseason, too. Doing one or two things really well is more helpful than being bleh at a bunch of things. But aside from that, why is he limited? His speed? In 2 preseason games he came down with a short and intermediate crosser in the middle of the field and 2 fade routes for TDs and then in practice here in the OP is a go route against Tre, who might've been wearing a red jersey but since he's playing Sunday, wasn't nothing. He can also run block. Truthfully, I'm fine with Duke on the PS as long as we keep him there. I do think we promote him if he's poached. I've been having a little fun with some hyperbole above. But I do think Zay is just bad. Waiting for the improvement. But it's year 3... too long. Give Foster the #3 role. Teach him how to run block. Wonder if part of the motivation to have him play on Special Teams is to give him a taste for hitting. -
So The Athletic has an article up bringing up some significant stats. Subscribe to see everything, but remember how last year some of us argued one of the factors of Allen's low completion percentage was that he threw the ball farther down the field on average by almost a full yard more than any other QB? Well now he's right around the middle of the pack at 12, right behind Big Ben and just ahead of Dak.

Duke is an unknown with lots of promise. Zay can't even establish himself as a top 3 WR amidst below average WR corps. He has only caught the ball on 47% of his targets in his entire career. Zay is NOT good. He is extremely expendable. Pretty simple. Cut Zay. Promote Duke. Stop debating. -
New Antonio Brown Article
transplantbillsfan replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Karma for Antonio Brown. Such a scumbucket. I'm so sooooOoooo glad he put up a fight and didn't want to come to Buffalo and McBeane seemingly basically said, "okay, moving on..." I think there's a good chance he's done in the NFL. I'll be surprised if he plays again this year. But this is also Karma for the Patriots and their shady ways. Love that they traded Demaryus Thomas and IRed their 1st round WR. -

Putting thoughts into words you actually mean is a weak point for you. -

No, look at what you said. You said he looked absolutely pooped. You didn't say it was a wild guess he was absolutely pooped. Backtracking is fine in this case, though. There ya go. At least you quickly realized the stupidity of your previous statement. We've all done it -

It's not one catch. By my count I think we have access to at least 5 catches via preseason games AND in practice via twitter that are more impressive as catches than anything we've seen from Zay in 2+ years in the NFL. And it doesn't matter the competition... Duke made those spectacular catches that Zay NEVER EVER does. -

2nd AND 3rd stringers. He was also a monster run blocker with his 1st string reps. Zay is in year 3 and he still sucks. He was a 2nd round WR with 1st round talk. Patience for a player like that is 1 year, not 2+ years. He sucks. If he turns it around suddenly, awesome. But I have no more patience for him and I really think Duke is putting some pressure on him to perform. Like I said before, you can see it in the way he "congratulates" Duke after that catch. Zay is on borrowed time, I hope he uses it wisely. -

I'm a Foster over Zay type. I actually think this Sunday Foster is going to have at least a couple big catches. Watching those plays Joe B highlighted where Foster was clearly the target and got open but the ball just never got to him tells me Daboll has plans for him. Zay has been a waste of space. I know Gunner points to his run blocking, but ya know who proved to be a pretty damn good run blocker in preseason? Da Duke thus... I am also a Duke over Zay type of guy. But seems this coaching staff is trying to allow time for the light to go on for Zay. So be it. Duke's still on our team. I suspect if another team poaches him we call him up. -

I thought about saying this in our other conversation in the other thread, but it would've just taken that thread into it's 3rd or 4th tangent. Agreed. -

Anyone notice how unenthusiastically Zay slapped his hand? Zay's thinkin "Oooooohhhhh crap!!!! I'm on thin ice and that guy's next man up!!!" -
The thing is, Beane didn't even draft him, but he's the one who talks him up all the time. Soooo.... not much longer then? Is that what the reposting of that thread is supposed to indicate? Not remotely hiding how much I hated the Allen pick when we drafted him. Not true. Go look at my posting history regarding Peterman.

I don't know about this. Foster missed a block I saw highlighted on offense a week ago I think, but he does play on Special teams. Plus... https://theathletic.com/1219528/2019/09/17/bills-all-22-review-how-the-week-2-film-shows-josh-allen-set-his-new-gold-standard-and-grades-for-each-player/ 5) Fear not, the deep shot to Foster is on the way In 2018, wide receiver Robert Foster became a late-season gem after he turned everything around with the help of his teammates. Before training camp, some of those high expectations were still in place. Now, Foster has settled into his role as the fourth wide receiver and has zero receptions with only two targets to his name thus far. While the passing volume of last season won’t be there for Foster unless there’s an injury, a splash play is likely on the way. After reviewing the coaches’ film, the Bills and Allen had three designed deep shots dialed up for Foster, but none came to fruition. In the following video, you’ll see three separate plays that show Foster as Allen’s target upon winning his deep route against the defender. On the first, Allen was looking Foster’s way initially, but the Giants flushed him from the pocket. On the second play, Allen reared back to lead Foster to the end zone, but the Giants deflected the ball during his throwing motion. On the third example, Foster won his route and Allen ignored the open receiver over the middle of the field to attempt to buy time. He wanted to let the route develop and step into the throw, as the end zone angle shows — only to get sacked. https://cdn.theathletic.com/app/uploads/2019/09/17213005/0917-Robert-Foster.m4v?_=3 That link is to the video, which actually shows the 3 plays designed to Foster. The link might not work, though. It's a subscription story. And he's open on all 3 plays. They just didn't work for the reasons highlighted above.

I am doing this to a large degree. And I understand that. It's a ball he could have caught and it wouldn't have taken Herculean efforts. He has never come up with a catch like that in the NFL, to the best of my recollection, and when he was drafted he was basically advertised as the guy who catches everything. When we kept him on the roster, I was open minded he'd take a big 3rd year leap. I'd still love to see it. But it's going to take a catch or two like that one that he actually makes. I think you're being a bit liberal with the word "outstanding." OBJ's one-handed catch on Monday night against the Jets was outstanding. Zay's catch (if he made it) in the EZ wouldn't have been outstanding. Agreed.

Fine, 6 or 7 times out of 10. Better side of 50%. I call bull on the idea that NFL WRs would only catch 25% of any passes similar to that. Cole did actually make a similar catch earlier in that game extending his arms and catching with his hands, which was what Zay had to do. That ball hit him square on his hands. It was a difficult catch, but he made it. You're also right, though. We scrutinize the play because it's Zay. I genuinely can't think of a time in the last 2 years where I thought "that was a great catch by Zay!" Can you? We scrutinize the play because it's just another pass he could've caught, but didn't.

Is Josh Allen a Top 6 QB in the AFC?

Why is Baker above Allen?
