In my opinion, the signs are pointing against Buffalo going QB at #10. But I wouldn't be surprised at all if they take one later in the draft.

    1. Re-Signing Taylor (after months of back and forth debate) tells me they didn't see Free Agency or the Draft offering immediate upgrades at the position.

    2. They haven't pursued a veteran backup. That tells me they are probably leaving a roster spot open alongside Taylor and Jones for a draft pick.

    3. I have heard about draft visits for Mahomes and Watson. But nothing on Trubisky, who is generally considered the top QB prospect. There is a good chance Trubisky is still available at #10, but probably not much longer. The other guys may drop to late first or even second round. This tells me they are more interested in mid/late round prospects at QB.

I think the only late round prospect at QB they have met with is Kelly (that I know of anyway) and man that would be a polarizing pick from a fan stand point!

The only reason I haven't ruled out a top pick on a QB as typically new regimes want to bring in their guy and if a top prospect falls to us at 10 it would be hard to pass up, also TT's new deal is essentially a 2 year deal so I have to imagine they would hedge their bets and take a top prospect either this year or next year. Someone like Trubisky could benefit from sitting a year or two (although you would think we would at least bring him in for a visit if he was going to be an option)

  2. No! Respectfully disagree. This will make you look like a kitty. Talk to him like a man, and then have your wife follow up with the same message.

It all depends on how he sees you already, and from what it sounds like he doesn't like him to begin with so who cares what he thinks. If his wife told her dad that she appreciates his concern but he needs to but out and actually stands up to him (doesn't sound like she ever has so this is needed as well) then that should solve things pretty quick.

It sounds like to me this guy will go talk to his daughter after they have the conversation you wish, twist his words and make things worse

I have no problem with the talk to him like a man arrangement, but it doesn't work in all situations and this guy seems like the passive aggressive type as he appears to address his issues with the OP through his daughter

It's not what you want from a top ten prospect. But it absolutely does not mean he was a bad draft pick that he was killed in a home invasion. That makes exactly as much sense as it would make to say that the scouts should have known that a draft pick would get killed in a car accident or an earthquake. That could have happened to anyone, and Taylor was setting the tone on that ferocious defence. He was a good pick there.

There aren't many safeties worth that. But there shouldn't be any question whatsoever that there haver been safeties good enough to have easily validated top ten picks. I'm sure you can come up with a list as easily as anyone else.

And Jack dropped last year because he was injured and hadn't played in a while. That is not a reasonable comparison. Don't know whether we will pick a safety but probably two will go in the top ten, and I'm betting at least one will be a good bargain there.

In regards to Taylor, yeah you cant blame the scouts as we have the benefit of hindsight and yes he had talent. But if you knew now that you would only get a couple years out of him, would you have spent the pick on him? I wouldn't have. Hence the lived up to the spot point I was making.

I was trying to draw a similar comparison as I believe Jack's knee was a degenerative thing, and he is rumored to only have a limited number of years. Now that I think of it, wasn't Kuoandjio rumored to have a knee thing that wouldn't last long too? Could also explain his drop. I guess the point I was trying to make is that if people know that a players shelf life is limited, it impacts their draft stock and if there was a re-draft done, Taylor would not have been picked in the top 10 imo

The difference between picking Top 10 and picking 11-25 is not a good reason to pass up a prospect.

With that said, I can't imagine a scenario in this draft where trading down 5-10 spots wouldn't be the Bills best scenario. This team has at least five glaring positional needs (Wide Receiver, Right Tackle, Linebacker, Cornerback, Safety) and a few spots that we need to seriously consider (Quarterback, Tight End).

The talent level between Picks #5-25 is not large. And even if we miss out on someone like Mike Williams, OJ Howard or Reuben Foster at #10, we could still get someone like Corey Davis, Cam Thomas or Zach Cunningham later in the round. Plus pickup another early draft selection.

For everyone complaining that Doug Whaley isn't fired yet... this draft (more than any class he has assembled so far) is going to really show where he stands as a GM. The Bills absolutely must kill this draft class. Not just in getting immediate contributions from its rookie class, but also in getting good value moving around the draft board. Pulling out 1-2 decent starters is not going to cut it.

So that would probably mean you don't see them spending a pick on a QB then no?

Also, I don't think Corey Davis would last much longer after we pick, Mike Williams is more likely to drop but that's just my opinion obviously

  4. Pretty much EVERYTHING on ABC, NBC and CBS. Whether it's comedy or alleged action or drama, it's all so vanilla, predictable and boring. You almost feel it's deliberate. Only exception is Scandal because 1) is the ridiculously attractive Kerry Washington and 2) they've done everything from shooting down airlines to shooting Presidents.

A specific show: Treehouse Masters: Can't stand the guy and can't stand all the uppity adult homeowners building tree houses for themselves. Three quarters of those idiots don't even have children.

My sister in law bought my wife and I the first two seasons of scandal on dvd/bluray. While I thought some of the stories were good, the annoying romance thing with the President was just ridiculous and was too annoying for us to watch any further

  5.

I really think a dude being murdered is a bit of an extenuating circumstance in regards to not living up to draft status, Taylor was well on his way to being a perennial All Pro.

I also don't think the Steelers regret taking Polamalu, or the Ravens regret Ed Reed, or the Seahawks regret Earl Thomas, all three were 1st round picks.

That's fine, and I agree with them, but they weren't taken in the top 10 which is where we are picking. And yes he had the talent, but playing for only a couple years is not what you want from a top 10 pick regardless of circumstance. Hence reasons why Jack dropped last draft

  6. This article, coupled with McD saying the #2 WR is already on the roster makes me think they will go defensive front 7 with their first pick.

Ha not by any means. I think i just misread the original quote. I thought he was saying that safeties in the top 10 always lived up to the bill... just woke up / drank too much last night lol.

Lol no worries, I was going to say you would probably have been the first bills fan to ever make that argument

  7. I first thought this was about the potential draft pick and wr from Clemson, then I remembered the Cuse guy, and then I remembered the tackle from Texas.

Please lets just stay away from the name Mike Williams

Before opening this thread, I thought Marrone had said something bad about the new Mike Williams, WR (going off of the thread title and thinking of current players). There's just too many Mike Williams!

    Ha! same thoughts here

  8. Just went back to 2002 and here are the safeties selected in the top 10:

    Roy Williams

    Sean Taylor

    Michael Huff

    Donte Whitner (ugh)

    Laron Landry

    Eric Berry

So in the last 15 years there have been 6 safeties in taken in the top 10, and the only real star (lived up to draft spot) I would argue is Berry.

With Norman gone the Panthers pass defense collapsed., they suffyall season long looking for some good corner play.

And Norman was taken in the 5th round, so McD didn't use a high pick on acquiring him FWIW

  9. Eric Berry, Sean Taylor

Sean Taylor didn't last that long (RIP) and Eric Berry is good but I personally don't think a safety warrants a top 10 pick. Its just not a high value position.

And to add on, this draft is supposedly deep at DB so why not wait and see what we can get later. Plus we just signed two safeties which lessens a need at that spot. I just don't see us taking one at 10, but I could be wrong of course

  10. True but our new scheme has corners getting a lot of help from safeties over the top and there may be a good one there at 10.

I cant remember a safety being taken in the top 10 that has ever lived up to the hype

Not sure Foster will be there or fits.

If Allen slips Yes, but who are the next best DL ?

Where wouldn't Foster fit? I could see the bengals taking him in front of us, which would follow the trend of Willis and Kuechley being taken right in front of us.....

  11. While I agree I wouldn't count on it.

Corner or Safety will be the pick, IMO.

McDermott believes in using later picks on secondary (see Josh Norman), not to say he wont ever, but in a deep class at db I feel like we should wait to grab them later and use the pick on another position that can be addressed like LB, QB, WR, TE

  12.

You are suggesting that a coach would favor a QB because they both played in the same state. What kind of response were you expecting? They do have TV and see college games from all over the country in NC. Ask Boyst. Even he has one. ;)

I am not suggesting that he favors him because he plays in the same state, but he may like him more than the other candidates due to a better familiarity with him (assuming he wants to go QB) and yes there are games across the country but the coverage of a local program is much more prevalent where you live

Edit: Although I am not familiar with the local coverage or a big UNC fan so maybe Boyst can shed some light on how they cover the team down there in NC

  13.

So, wait, all this "McDermott loves Whaley, he loves Whaley not" shenanigans is really a diversion to throw us off the trail of Bigfoot...

Bigfoot hasn't really been seen in public much, lately... nor has he done much public speaking...

ARE THEY GONNA FIRE BIGFOOT!?!?!? :o

I AM SO DONE WITH THIS TEAM!!!

Didn't you hear about the car accident in Idaho that was blamed on Bigfoot just the other day?

Rumor has it he did it as he believed it was a good representation of our FO
