Where are all the darnold rosen and Mayfield fans?
Boatdrinks replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, it all comes back to Josh Allen and what he turns out to be. Passing on your biggest need for a CB ( regardless of how good the player is ) is going to be questioned. -

I don’t think anyone in their right mind thinks Mahomes performance would be identical if he were in Buffalo. He may just be a better QB than the four rookies will ever be, and the Bills had the opportunity to draft him without moving up. They also could have sat him for a year. It’s not as ridiculous a notion as you make it out to be. -

I’ll conjure a guess, regardless of anyone’s stance on the 2018 QBs. Many fans have shifted their focus onto the possibility the Bills waited a year too long to address their QB deficiency. -
The Bills GM and FO would have been fine, because they did draft Kelly, after all. That idiot secretary though, she would have caught serious hell on TSW.

The defense is very bad. In the current NFL, however it may not matter much. Last year’s SuperBowl had about one major defensive play. It was significant to the outcome, but defense has taken a back seat for awhile now.

While I hope the Mahomes thing doesn’t become the Bills fan’s lament for the next decade, I don’t think the frustration is born of hindsight. Rather, it’s from the Bills ownership / FO’s lack of foresight. This is a major distinction. The only way it “ goes away” is if the Bills success with Allen is comparable to the Chiefs with Mahomes ( Watkins if you want to add him in) over a period of time.
-
Nope. Largely beacuse most of them didn’t think Allen was any good to begin with. They consider his surrounding cast irrelevant.
-
It’s well worn territory on this board, but I can’t disagree with your assessment on the offensive side of things.
-
Yes, it’s their defense. Watkins having a nice day with a couple TD catches
-
And most of them are right. OL play is mediocre across the NFL. Very few teams have a dominant line. Even so, offenses are scoring more throughout the league. The Bills havent managed to join in this offensive resurgence.

Seems like a good idea to me, but I’ve read somewhere that it would just be open season on minorities or something.

I agree. The Bills problem right now is paying players not on the roster. Complaining about paying good players seems pretty silly.

There are nutjobs everywhere, sadly.

Bronco's cut Chad Kelly
Boatdrinks replied to Mike in Horseheads's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As stated, I qualified it with fwiw. Your mileage may vary, but Kelly being a day two pick without the baggage isn’t a crazy notion. -

Fwiw, Mayock stayed with his assessment of second round ability for Kelly throughout the combine/ draft. He tempered this with quick acknowledegment of the off field issues and injury being major factors. Seemed like a fair and measured take at the time. Just one analyst’s opinion, but Mayock is a guy I generally respect even if I don’t always agree. -
How does a QB deficient team pass on Mahomes/Watson
Boatdrinks replied to Rebel101's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe. We will probably never know. Whaley had shown a propensity for the big splash offensive player in the first round, but somehow I always feared the Bills would take a first round CB while he was in charge. I guess I could see it going either way, but Whaley seems an easy scapegoat post dismissal. -

Ownership mistakes and structural incompetence. If the Pegulas had cleaned house properly, hired a GM then a HC, the Bills QB situation may have been fixed. Rex being brought in to run his 3-4 defense thereby dismantling an existing ( and good) 4-3 was probably the first mistake. It’s old news now, and rumors about Whaley being the one who passed on Mahomes don’t matter much. The entire situation stems from the stumbles of ownership. -
How and Why The Bills Could Win Monday Night
Boatdrinks replied to Kevin1778's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not sure if you watched those games, but I’d rather be playing that Pats* team than the current one. They had pretty much no WRs, so the strategy was simple. Double Gronkowski and stop the run. It’s a totally different game now that they have some WR threats again. -

The only chance for the Bills to win lies with Brady being knocked out of the game early. Otherwise, it’s a wrap. There’s no replay of the Minnesota game in store here. The Bills offense isn’t even functional, and that alone will give the Pats* about 5 extra possessions. Possibly more with turnovers. That probably equals 28 points on its own. Add in NE’s usual 30 points or so and this one is out of hand. The MNF booth will be into their blowout material halfway through the second quarter. -
The Vikings think Allen > Darnold
Boatdrinks replied to Teddy KGB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I’ll agree with this take. Allen has shown much more “ game” than most of those guys. He is so raw, though it’s almsot as if he has to learn how to play the position. Lately, this is what concerns me the most. His numbers vs Darnolds are reflective of his lack of a supporting cast imo. It’s the lack of good offensive coaches on the Bills staff that may prevent his development. They’ve famously botched the vet QB starter situation ,as we know. Does McD bring in a guru QB coach and get a top OC somewhere ? I think the chances of this are low, and that lowers Allen’s odds of success. -
The Pats* Defense isn’t very good, but the Bills will be the tonic for them as most every other defense. A bad defense doesn’t matter much in the NFL anymore, thanks to the various rule changes. The days of an elite defense neutralizing an great offense have been legislated out of the league. My only hope is that sometime in the near future, Bills ownership takes note of this and hires their GM accordingly.

It was a mistake, as they have no talent at WR and will likely have to spend multiple high picks and/ or who knows how much $$ to find one. There will always be anti SW crusaders on this board, but it doesn’t change matters any. The picks spent to draft him were a long-sunk cost.
