Hapless is definitely the one to ask but I’ll try to help. https://www.health.com/condition/infectious-diseases/n95-respirator-mask-coronavirus They are actually trained how to wear+breath in these masks and how to properly remove+dispose them, etc. It can be difficult to breath for much more than 30 mins at a time (making them less practical for public use). It has to be a specific type of mask to be able to filter very small particles and must be worn properly at all times to offer protection. But, in my opinion it’s still not the worst idea to wear a cloth mask in public, just for the simple reason that it will keep you from accidentally touching your nose/mouth (most common way to get sick). And it may help slightly contain your cough/sneeze droplets but I’m not really sure on that (that may not be true, I don’t know and I don’t want to offer any incorrect info). OI debated posting this, and if Hapless or other mods think it should be removed, I fully understand. [Hap sez: I think everyone should watch it] This is starting to happen at hospitals in the U.S.. We are not immune to this, and the less we do right now the harder we are going to be hit. I understand that it may be frustrating but Please take these social distancing measures serious.

There were 7100 cases yesterday. What was it, just a week ago that we were in the 100’s?

Just imagine how much worse it would be in the coming weeks if we weren’t social distancing in NY right now. Imagine all those crowded NYC streets and how quickly it could spread.

Some good updates for NY and NYC: - NY is now doing more tests per capita than anywhere else in the country (and reportedly more per capita than China and even S. Korea). They processed 10,000+ new tests just in the last 24 hours and are up to almost 33,000 tests done. https://www.businessinsider.com/new-york-state-coronavirus-testing-compared-to-other-countries-2020-3 - 1 million new N95 masks are being sent to NYC (I have family in healthcare, they are DESPERATELY needed). 500k to Long Island. - 6000 additional ventilators were purchased and supplies are being gathered from anywhere they can get them. - at least 4 sites are going to be retrofitted to handle covid19 cases + medical tents are also being put up. This will create 1000’s of new beds for patients. This is all desperately needed. NYC is getting hit hard. We are already up over 7100 cases in NY in just a matter of days. BTW: so far, 55% of COVID19 cases in NY are people ages 18-49. Roughly 40% of those cases have required hospitalization.

It’s not asking the government babysit. It’s having a coherent national plan and coordinating resources and responses for all of our states (some of this stuff needs to be done on a federal level) + putting out just the factual information and not constantly misleading the nation with inaccurate statements that have to be immediately corrected by the experts (it’s dangerous). I don’t think it’s too much to ask not to be constantly misled and lied to by them. When has that ever happened before in a situation like this?

Yes, 100% I would. They’ve done so much good for this team. They don’t deserve to be fired for a swing and a miss on 1 player. And you can totally see why they took a chance on Allen. Every tool is there, he has a high ceiling, his work ethic is top notch, he’s very driven to improve, he’s smart, ultra competitive and plays the game very tough. If Allen doesn’t work out, I would feel pretty confident that they would learn from it and apply it to the next QB they scout/draft.

Agree. Doctors and nurses are short on masks already. Production should have been ramped up many weeks ago. They issued dire warnings to us in February to drastically ramp up production. I believe it is now. A request was put in to ramp up production last week, so hopefully it’s happening quickly now. But those masks still haven’t made it into the hands of our first responders on the front lines. Random thought on this: I can remember during things like the SARS and MERS outbreaks, seeing photos and videos from crowded places in China (subways, markets, etc etc) and nearly everyone was wearing a mask. I remember thinking, “wow that’s wild! Glad we don’t have to do that here”. But now I wonder if that might be our new reality for a while. I wonder if you are going to slowly start seeing more and more people out in public places with masks on?

Wow. Having been there many times that is quite a sight. i posted some pics of different NYC tourist attractions in the other thread (I’ll post them here too). It’s so strange to see NYC streets so empty. As strange and sad and scary as it is to see, it’s also encouraging too. People are taking this thing serious in NYC. It would be a nightmare if those streets were still packed with people.

You know, I’ve seen a lot of selfless people since this all started. It’s amazing. But I’ve also seen quite a few selfish people too. Staying home is not a sacrifice. Don’t be selfish.

Yeah it definitely was. I love his honesty. It’s needed right now. When asked a question he is willing to tell the truth no matter what.

That’s what doctors are facing in Italy. They are having to choose which patients to treat and which to let die. It appears resources are going to those patients that they think have the best chance of being saved. Imagine the trauma/PTSD that is going to cause for those poor doctors and nurses. I can’t even imagine. PSA: If you’re mad about staying in, or bars being closed, think about what the people on the front lines of this are dealing with. (Just FYI this is not directed at you or anyone else here cripple creek)

Just a reminder that it’s not just about the inconvenience social distancing may cause to us personally. It’s about the much bigger sacrifices other are already making and will continue to make. This is just 1 example (of thousands):
