  1. I really hope it is coming. They’ve been saying it’s coming for over a week now, it’s shipped, you can get it. But everyone I know in healthcare is saying that is absolutely false. I pray it changes soon. As of last night there was still no proof that the defense production act was even invoked (despite saying it was multiple times now)
  2. To add to the above story: https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2020/03/21/coronavirus-testing-strategyshift/ If you are in NY: And then there’s this from LA: And washington St: More info in the article. I couldn’t copy/paste everything, but I tried to get the main parts.
  3. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001107234/article/track-all-of-saturdays-nfl-free-agency-news Colts release Brian Hoyer. I wonder if the patriots will have any interest.
  4. I downloaded a free app called “7 minute workouts”. That’s about the level I’m currently at... ? It’s actually a cool free app though. You can track your weight/progress, you can design your own 7 minute routines (you get to choose from a bunch of different exercises from a number of different categories (legs, arms, abs, etc)) or choose from many pre-made ones. There’s a animated demonstration of each exercise that plays while you’re doing the exercise with a running timer (and you can click on each exercise for a more detailed video explanation with a real person instead of s computer animation). You can set the rest times between exercises (from 5 to 15 seconds). It also has a daily reminder to work out, which is nice. it also keeps track of the days you work out and tells you how many days you’ve done it consecutively (so it gives me motivation not to break my streak, or set a longer streak). There’s a bunch of cool workout apps out there. ones with much more advanced workouts. But I’m just trying to get started and make it a daily routine/habit for now. I just grabbed a few free apps. This one was the best of the bunch so far. I downloaded it on my tablet and I set it on a stand when doing the workouts. Phone would work too.
  5. 44yr old former federal prosecutor and founder of Above the Law legal blog. From 2 days ago: https://www.law.com/newyorklawjournal/2020/03/19/david-lat-speaks-from-the-hospital-about-fears-hopes-and-what-people-should-know/?slreturn=20200221231157 Here’s the twitter thread he was using to document his story, for those interested: (click on tweet to see whole thread. Too long to post)
  6. Thank you for sharing this hapless.
  7. [edit: re Trump not empowering experts] Without going PPP, it appears that he just didn’t believe the experts, and spent months calling it media panic and an average flu (evidenced by so many who still believe that even now or are just realizing in the last week that it isn’t). as to there still not being any true coordinated 50 state/national plan, I have not a clue.
  8. I fear there are going to be many, many stories like this in the coming days and weeks but I pray to god there aren’t
  9. Definitely gut wrenching. And just when I felt like NY was making some real progress in their testing (NY tested at the highest rate per capita in the world over the last 24 hours. That’s what needs to be done IMO) https://abc7ny.com/health/nyc-health-officials-provide-limits-on-testing-patients-for-covid-19/6033992/ running out of protective equipment and oral swabs. Ugh.
  10. Hapless is definitely the one to ask but I’ll try to help. https://www.health.com/condition/infectious-diseases/n95-respirator-mask-coronavirus They are actually trained how to wear+breath in these masks and how to properly remove+dispose them, etc. It can be difficult to breath for much more than 30 mins at a time (making them less practical for public use). It has to be a specific type of mask to be able to filter very small particles and must be worn properly at all times to offer protection. But, in my opinion it’s still not the worst idea to wear a cloth mask in public, just for the simple reason that it will keep you from accidentally touching your nose/mouth (most common way to get sick). And it may help slightly contain your cough/sneeze droplets but I’m not really sure on that (that may not be true, I don’t know and I don’t want to offer any incorrect info). Here’s the CDC FAQ on masks: https://www.cdc.gov/niosh/npptl/topics/respirators/disp_part/respsource3healthcare.html
  11. OI debated posting this, and if Hapless or other mods think it should be removed, I fully understand. [Hap sez: I think everyone should watch it] This is starting to happen at hospitals in the U.S.. We are not immune to this, and the less we do right now the harder we are going to be hit. I understand that it may be frustrating but Please take these social distancing measures serious.
  12. There were 7100 cases yesterday. What was it, just a week ago that we were in the 100’s?
  13. Just imagine how much worse it would be in the coming weeks if we weren’t social distancing in NY right now. Imagine all those crowded NYC streets and how quickly it could spread.
  14. This chart shows the differences in the way COVID-19 has been handled by Kentucky vs by Tennessee, and their current case numbers + testing. Quite a difference. Shows why quick action is so important.
  15. Some good updates for NY and NYC: - NY is now doing more tests per capita than anywhere else in the country (and reportedly more per capita than China and even S. Korea). They processed 10,000+ new tests just in the last 24 hours and are up to almost 33,000 tests done. https://www.businessinsider.com/new-york-state-coronavirus-testing-compared-to-other-countries-2020-3 - 1 million new N95 masks are being sent to NYC (I have family in healthcare, they are DESPERATELY needed). 500k to Long Island. - 6000 additional ventilators were purchased and supplies are being gathered from anywhere they can get them. - at least 4 sites are going to be retrofitted to handle covid19 cases + medical tents are also being put up. This will create 1000’s of new beds for patients. This is all desperately needed. NYC is getting hit hard. We are already up over 7100 cases in NY in just a matter of days. BTW: so far, 55% of COVID19 cases in NY are people ages 18-49. Roughly 40% of those cases have required hospitalization.
  16. It’s not asking the government babysit. It’s having a coherent national plan and coordinating resources and responses for all of our states (some of this stuff needs to be done on a federal level) + putting out just the factual information and not constantly misleading the nation with inaccurate statements that have to be immediately corrected by the experts (it’s dangerous). I don’t think it’s too much to ask not to be constantly misled and lied to by them. When has that ever happened before in a situation like this?
  17. Wow. Pretty powerful video.
  18. If I find an English version of this video I will update this post. But this video is still a great demonstration why it’s important to use proper hand washing technique.
