    Buffalo murders receivers.

The 2 best seasons that Sammy has had, by far, came in Buffalo. Over his 5 seasons in the NFL 57% of his career receiving yards came in his first 2 years here. Since then he has had trouble staying on the field and his QBs are treating him like a #2 or #3. This isn't a debate anymore. He has never been worth what a single team gave up for him. Maybe he'll finally turn it on, he is still only 25 years old. I'm not holding my breath though.

I didn't want to embarrass you by reposting the part about Sammy being in the same conversation at Antonio Brown and Julio Jones. How is that even a question?

If not for his chronic foot issues they would be pissed we got rid of him

Yes, if he wasn't injury prone he wouldn't be injury prone. That doesn't change the reality that he doesn't stay on the field. He also has an ego problem. If he was elite his issues might be worth dealing with, but he produces more like a good #2 receiver than a real #1. I get why people think he is so good. He looks like he should be elite with his size and hands and above average speed. For whatever reason he has never put it all together. Chiefs fans don't like him this year. They would much rather have spent his $17 million on some semblance of a secondary.

Foster, the guy we cut?  The guy we had to play because of our garbage trades for KB and Zay?

Yep, exactly. That's the receiver you are using to prop up Sammy Watkins. Is that supposed to make him look good?

sorry guys.  I’m going with McVay

Me too. McVay let Sammy go a year after trading a 2nd for him, and used a 1st to trade for a different receiver and gave him a similar contract. Reid made the same mistake.

No one is saying Sammy is complete garbage, or that he wouldn't upgrade our offense. He is a pretty good receiver but he is wildly overrated, and he has trouble staying on the field. In the past 2 seasons teams have given up a 1st, a 2nd, and $17 million for his 556 yards per season. He only has 139 more yards than Kelvin Benjamin this season. That's embarrassing. And yeah it's because of injures not talent, but that's his history. He's pretty good on the field and injury prone.

I'll tell you this. That 90 mil in cap space has lost much of it's luster now that we actually take a look at the available free agents.

Not at all. There are several good offensive linemen and tight ends available, a couple solid running backs too. Those are the positions we should be spending on this year.

I think that if he can stay healthy, Eifert would be the steal of free agency.

I would love Eifert at the right price. It's a risk but a lot of potential at a relatively low cost. We should draft a TE too.

The problem that the Bills are going to confront in attempting to shore up their OL in free agency is that there are a number of teams that are also desperate to build up their lines. The Bills have the cap wherewithal to pay for line players, and so do other teams. Houston and Jacksonville are desperate for  linemen. Jacksonville's collapse was as much due to their injured line that took them out of the running. Bortles is Bortles and receives most of the attention associated with the collapse of the Jaguars. But the main contributor for their precipitous decline from a near SB run last year was the faltering of their line, much of it because of injuries. The same desperate need applies to Houston who wants to protect their most valuable asset in Watson.

The model to follow is Indy. They drafted Nelson who will be a perennial all-star and if healthy a HOF candidate with a high pick in the first round and then with a second round pick selected a G/T from Auburn. Both started. The priority was obvious of protecting Luck so that he can function at a high level and stay healthy.

Don't get me wrong I'm not arguing against taking a serious run at line players in free-agency. But in my view we also need to consider upscale line talent from the draft such as Bama's Josh Williams and WV's Cajuste. I personally favor Williams because he can play every position on the line. Versatility is a talent.

If you want to address an issue the best way to do it is to just do it!

Luckily free agency comes before the draft so we will know what our needs are by then. But they're going to go BPA regardless. Jonah Williams IMO is overrated. He will not be BPA at #9. If we don't trade down I expect us to draft a defensive lineman. That is likely where the value will be. If we trade down and take Williams that would be a good move.

Other teams don't have the cap space that we have. Houston for example is working with $16 million less than us. I don't expect us to spend to the cap but we have room to make 1 or 2 big splash signings, and looking at the list of free agents I think the biggest signings in the NFL will be offensive linemen.

The OL is the priority and so is upgrading the offense in general to put our young and strapping qb in a position to succeed.

The OL can be fixed in free agency.

    https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/offensive-line/

There are a lot of good names on this list.

    Ramon Foster - PFF's 15th best OG in 2018

    Roger Saffold - PFF's 7th best OG

    Matt Slauson - PFF's 19th best OG

    Mark Glowinski - PFF'S 13th best OG

Mitch Morse and Matt Paradis would both be huge upgrades at center. Daryl Williams had an excellent season for Carolina at RT in 2017 but was injured all of last year.

Value at the top of the draft this year is not offensive linemen, and rookie offensive linemen tend to struggle anyways. I want Allen surrounded by veterans even if we have to overpay.

  7. I think we'll overpay 2 offensive line players in free agency (Daryl Williams and Paradis or Morse). It is hard to fix an offensive line these days without overpaying so I'm fine with that. I don't want to rely on rookies to protect Josh Allen next year. Besides that I would guess most of our signings will be mid-grade. I could see us bringing in Golden Tate, maybe Jesse James or Tyler Eifert too. Tyrrell Williams is overrated and we can find receivers of that caliber in the 2nd round this year. I don't expect any big defensive signings. Our first pick as BPA will likely be on defense.

  8. Joe Marino on the Locked on Bills podcast today made a good case for signing Davis. He isn't the same player as Lorenzo Alexander. Zo plays more in pass rush situations, whereas Davis is better in coverage situations. He's apparently one of the hardest workers in the league so he brings that leadership quality to a young LB core. And if you put stock in PFF they graded him better in 2018 than in 2017 or 2016 so he isn't necessarily declining. I'm convinced this would be a really good signing.

Jacobs will be great as an all purpose back. He is a quality receiver and would be a huge asset to Allen.

He is probably going in the 1st. His stock has risen a ton. Every year I fall in love with a player (last year it was Mayfield) and this year it is Jacobs. Solid blocker, runs hard, passionate about the game, and a weapon as a receiver. I hate 1st round RBs but I'd make an exception for him, IF we can trade down.

  10. Unfortunately I think the Jets will draft him 3rd overall. I'm not sure a single offensive player other than QB will go in the top 10. The top of the draft this year is defense heavy. I'm guessing we will take the best defensive lineman available (early guess is Wilkins or Ferrell) and in the 2nd round take the best receiver or TE available.

Our coach has a worse record than Gase

Gase's team is spending $56 million more on their active roster this year than we are, but only won 1 more game than us. In our 2 games this year we outgained them 796 to 400 yards, and outscored them 59 to 38.

I know you're going to die on this hill regardless but that's why your point is meaningless.

Yup, that’s the big take away.  Might not work but they went all in.  We left our rookie with the a guy who has been a bottom 5 OC for every year except when he was on fire at 22.

Kingsbury has zero NFL experience. I'm surprised he's getting a head coaching job before ever coaching at the pro level. I mean it might work out but leading an NFL team takes a lot more than just designing an offense.
