Dennison's zone blocking scheme
rant_and_go replied to Original Byrd Man's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Pulling is not the same as zone blocking. Pulling is for d-linemen who shoot up field after being driven one or one, or crushed by double teams all day. It keep those blocks honest. Zone is the entire line steps right, or steps left, or steps straight, and then pushes the guy in front of them on a down block, the way they are going. The RB starts off slow, and waits for a running lane to open. If it closes down, Denver has the one cut rule where they can only choose one other place. Big problem with this is your offense now reacts to the defense instead of dictating the action. Ironically, Rex's defense wins against this run game, because dline stays home and blitz is unpredictable. I really really hope Dennison is not a student of one system. I hope he can adapt and have more than one way to play the game. -
3 years out before any contribution. I'll go with oline or safety, and keep Tyrod. I'm more concerned with coaching staff. What good are draft picks if they are never developed?

Harrison is obviously juiced

A really creepy thing is how teams start out bad. Green Bay goes 4-6, then win 8 in the row. They start out the year promising their families they won't take drugs, then when faced it with their career being over, they are drug addicts again. It's not just steroids either. Pain killers, amphetamines, marijuana, coupled with an awful diet makes pro athletes more abused than race horses Dirty secrets of football: High School: Playing 20 year olds College: Recruiting all starts to sit on the bench NFL: Drugs -
Sure, there are never big busts with contract signings. Osweiler. Asomugha. We should have put him up on the trade block right after the Roman firing. Taylor too. Addition by subtraction, get some more picks, and move up higher in the draft. With the news about Rob Ryan, and seeing Taylor stand on his tip toes in the Miami game, made it clear by any honest assessment this team is squeezing blood from a stone to get to 7-9. The only thing that leans in favor of keeping him here is the number of Buffalo sports name who have left town over the past two decades. But now we have the third richest owner in the league who is from here. Do it right before he looses all hope and moves the team.

They should start keeping stats of ducking under oncoming ball carriers. Defense really needed leadership. Gilmore could've stepped up. He wilted. He's also been getting burned since day 1.

Coach and staff first. You really think the Bills drafted bad players the past 16 years? A lot of good talent was squandered. You need someone who can see what's next after Catch 'n Throw offenses.

PFF: Bills Should Build Around Tyrod
rant_and_go replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Name drops, and reads like it was written by a bot. First sentence of Tyrod analysis should include: "A NFL QB stands who stands on his tip toes to through a crossing route" His worst problem is he's always late with his throws. It must have been something he learned from EJ. EJ's much slower, but TT also waits for the WR to make his break before he throws. -
Cardale was awesome. Offense finally started driving. Progressions, anticipating routes, standing in pocket, getting first downs. That quarter was the best QB play from the Bills this year. Coughlin can do it. He'll be the first balanced coach who knows both sides of the ball. We're not asking him to line up. We're asking him to teach. Vermeil did it twice and was older.

A major league team once started a dwarf in the batting lineup. Seeing an NFL QB stand on his tip toes to throw over the middle reminds me of that. TT gets yards because no one can see him run. The dwarf gets on base because he has no strike zone. Cardale actually looked really good. Already he's talking too many hits. Don't go to Lynn. Running the read-option with a QB who's fatter than Sheldon Richardson should tell you a lot. Coughlin, Cardale, McCoy and Watkins will be perfect for each other. Sign Gilmore, draft a MLB. That's the problem with the safeties, the browns can't stop the runs.

Bradford lit us up last year.

Oh look neither Ohio state nor Washington belonged.
rant_and_go replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in College Football
What happens is northern teams are built to play in bad weather and the south has home field advantage in the championship games. Bills went through it drafting Roscoe, McGahee from the U and they fell apart. What they need is a 64 team playoff. Top 4 get a pass, everyone else starts off in overtime rules. Rose Bowl, Orange Bowl, Big House and Yankee Stadium are the venues on New Years Day. It won't work because college administrators are senile corrupt monsters. -
2013: Russ Brandon bringing "Moneyball" to Bills
rant_and_go replied to Big Blitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just about to write this. Football has a lot of qualities that are not conducive to analytics. So much of it's emotional and open. Baseball after the pitch is very reactionary, and has under a second to make a decision. They made progress putting chips in pads, and judging velocities and impacts, but that's more for injury prevention. Also the Bills problems are getting 11 players on the field, having CBs not bite on the play fake, having a QB that can throw over the middle, penalties still, and having a kicker who can make field goals. Not exactly hidden secrets. -
This quote is precisely why Rex failed as a HC...
rant_and_go replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Belichek knows every aspect of the NFL. League agenda, rulebook, personnel, decades worth of plays in all three aspects. Rex knows one defense that's been outdated for about 10 years. Marrone had Kyle Orton run the read/option when he didn't have the endurance to even stay in the pocket, and thought he could cover Gronk with Spikes and Bradham. It's not about being a player's coach or a hardliner. It's about knowing the game and being honest in your assessments. You really can't care about praise or blame, but just do the right thing. -
It would be another disaster to blow it all up.

Elite offenses can throw over the middle and do not have chronic 3 and out droughts. -
So Who's Fault Is It Really ?? Coach or Players ?
rant_and_go replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Seeing a starting NFL QB have to stand on his tip toes to throw a crossing route, and running an option offense makes my head explode. -
(at least) Three fireable offenses by Rex yesterday:
rant_and_go replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Rex sucks. I defended him, and can see what he was trying to do. It almost worked, but he couldn't finish it. Asset projection was the trendy philosophy this. Rex does deficit projection. I would've won if Ragland wasn't hurt. I would've won if the officials called my timeout. I would've won if I wasn't lazy and sloppy. -
How are the Chiefs a playoff team?
rant_and_go replied to somnus00's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bills have been very streaky. Rex has limited vision and his defense was made when NFL players could brain each other. Rex just doesn't see the big picture and his team is very sloppy. Penalties are big. Also a lot of the points and defensive plays come when the game is over. Steelers are up big, game ends 27-20. It should have been 50-3. Other side too is Bills are not the far away from the Cheif's record. Meltdown against Oakland doesn't happen, and Aaron Williams is still around, they are there. I do see what Rex is doing. Really good defenses hate to play the Bills. Safety and a LB that can run, and defense is a world beater. I really hope they keep it together, and get leadership that is mean and pushes them over, from coaching or locker room. -
I wouldn't be surprised if Pittsburgh was his source. What better way to demoralize a team before they play? Everyone's fired. Bills should start doing stuff like this. Teach their players to cheat, corrupt league rules, immorally use the media, and get everyone addicted to drugs. That's how you win in today's NFL.

How many penalties on Sherman tonight?
rant_and_go replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sherman is close to 6'3" I blame his mother and rap music.
