Ok got it but above avg also doesn’t scream 1st round pick to me. what I don’t like and why he is a lower grade: lacks flexibility rarely shows bend in his rushes and flatten as needed doesn’t have really any counters to speak of. Wins around the edge. pad height inconsistent. Plays to high and as a result easily moved around doesn’t have a go to move and lacks a plan on pass rush. Rarely you see him set a OT up (do you lack of second move and counters) Short arms lacks length which to me projects him as a Murphy’s Base end position.

and other sites have him as low as 60. I used my grades when writing this. Now I also will admit because the Bills have had a good season I have not refined my grades like I already would have by this point. he may rise or he may not when I refine more. But I use my own work because then I can defend it. right now I have two first round grades DEs. And Weaver isn’t one of them it is Young and AJ. what do you like about Weaver that makes him a first round pick in your eyes (maybe I am missing something).

I think the AAF was doomed because they rushed ASAP to get to market before XFL. I think the XFL is taking a more methodical approach and unlike the AAF don’t need the NFLPA. So while will be touch and go I think their business Model is set up for better success. Unlike AAF they have a broadcast partner. I can’t say for sure if it will succeed. I can say they have set themselves up better than AAF to have a shot.

A 17M AAV 25 year old DE isn’t going to stop you from signing Josh Allen, Edmunds or White in the future. The reality is the Bills will be needing 3 DEs in the near future. so signing a Yannick allows you to check one of them off for the long term future. Signing an 30+ DE doesn’t address that fact in the future. So by signing an Addison and Drafting a Weaver is still treading water at future organizational depth. signing a Yannick and Drafting a Willekes leaves you with only 1 long term DE needed in future but that one could also be you older 1 or 2 year vets in future. if Willekes performs he gets Yannicks contract as you cycle off him as he gets older. you can always support a highly paid DE on roster and still do everything else.

I also really like Kenny Willekes in 3rd. i wouldn’t over-draft a DE instead I would go with a Willekes in the third put him in the rotation. the easiest solution though would be to get one of the stud young UFAs (you know they can already play at this level). There is a ton of youth on this defense already (yes we are older on the DL) but when there are 25 year olds hitting the market that can play I would rather go there. but I don’t disagree with your thinking. Just not the way I would look at this specific position is all.

Well they could have easily kept Beane buy making him the GM. They didn’t do it and lost him. That is on Panthers to only fire Gettleman what a couple months after Beane left?

I get the premise and it would be intriguing if Shaq leaves. I think though I would rather get younger at DE not older. now if this is a second DE signed after signing a younger stud I would be more OK with it.

Deny the interview. Just that easy. Give Butler a little pay bump to keep him happy after denying the interview.

If Butler wants to stay he will go to Bills and say deny the interview. they will talk to him before denying anything. But ultimately it is up to Bills. at no point in the NFL have teams not been able to hire and attract coaching talent because they deny lateral moves.

true unless they re-sign Lawson (makes Murphy's role redundant). IMO that is the crutch, they could get three years younger with Lawson (at 8M AAV) and then get that elite rusher as well. But murphy still doesnt go anywhere unless they need the cap savings until the summer. And they will not cut him he would be traded if moved off the roster.

again at 6.1M base IF Bills want to go another route which they very well could or couldn't there will be a market for him. Trade him get the assets and move on. I also dont think cutting him is in the cards IMO unless they decide to go with Shaq Lawson in his role (3 years longer) and his value is right about where Murphy's is. Now if Shaq leaves because he get a ton of money keep him. I would NOT move on from Trent Murphy until the summer, if I am going to move on from him there is Nothing stopping me from that cap wise. Trad or Cut, before or after his bonus there is nothing but cap savings attached to moving him.

no you trade him. If Murphy is not part of the Long term plan and you are signing into the position or drafting into the position you work the trade. After the bonus is paid his value goes up more. Murphy on a 5M (bonus paid) contract is very tempting for a team to trade for. Specially after this year where his numbers show he is healthy and back to where he was.

That is smart. But if Wade Phillips is the hire at DC that was talked about last night (not sure if official) they really should get whoever wade wants as long as they can and not blocked by other teams
